Skyclad's 2017 Foals

Hello all! I’m a little late in reporting new borns this year but there’s been a good amount (for us) so far.

[color=red]Blacklist
ICh. Take Me Away (B) x Offshore Money
9.1hh black filly
Born on the first, this girl looks exactly like mom except for some chrome on the wrong foot. :slight_smile: Hopefully she’ll run more like her sire.

[color=blue]Celliwig
9.1hh dark bay colt
Also born on the first. His paternal granddam is Back to Cashel, which is a town in Ireland that is home to the Rock of Cashel. A cashel is a ringfort made of stone or earth. They are located all over Ireland and South Wales, as well as Cornwall. Kelly Rounds, a ringfort in Cornwall, has been proposed to be the site of Celliwig, King Arthur’s court. And that’s the end of the history lesson. :slight_smile:

On a more somber note, a few days after we lost a lovely Sun King filly by our beloved Easy Does It. Doozy is doing well as of now.

[color=blue]Carmine
NCh. Robin Hood (S) x Bellona
8.1hh bay colt

This little guy was born about a week ago. Robin Hood is excellent, of course, and did almost all of his running at two and three. Bellona won her first two races but went downhill as a three year old, though she was stakes placed. Here’s hoping Robin Hood adds some class. Carmine is named after an Italian bandit, Carmine Crocco.

Lovely babies! I really like Blacklist.

Sorry to hear about loosing the Sun King filly, I do love Blacklist!

Also loving Blacklist - good luck with her! :slight_smile:

Thanks! :slight_smile:

Love the name Blacklist!

Love all the names. Congrats. :slight_smile:

Finally! I’ve got two mares who were due the 29th but another mare decided to foal early instead.

[color=blue]Tariq
8.2hh bay colt
Rock of Gibraltar (B) x Gone Punk

Tariq is rather small for the size of his parents (both over 16 hands) but he’s a well built little guy.  He’s named after a Berber general from the early 8th century, Tariq ibn Ziyad.  The Rock of Gibraltar is actually a derivative of Jabal Tariq, which means ‘Mountain of Tariq’.

Currently we’re at 3 colts and 1 filly.

And another early foal!

[color=red]Aura
9.0hh bay filly
Monarchos x Learaly (S)

Aura was also born about a month early.  Her name comes from Greek and Roman mythology.  Aura is the divine personification of the breeze.  She’s from Monarchos’ first crop, and she is the second foal for me from Learaly.  Mom is silver-ranked and a decent runner, so here’s hoping Aura lives up to her name!

3 colts, 2 fillies
15 foals left

Lovely filly. :slight_smile:

Two more today!

[color=red]With Audacity
8.2hh light bay filly
NCh. Boldness Shows x Quite Contrary

Dacity is the first foal out of Quite Contrary.  Mom is multiple-stakes placed and Boldness Shows is a MSW’ing millionaire.

[color=blue]Siegfried
8.0hh flea-bitten grey colt
NCh. Joyeux Oiseau x NCh. Morning Waits

I’m really excited about this colt!  He’s out of one of my favorite mares, Morning Waits, who was (in my opinion) pretty great.  Joyeux Oiseau matured later the Morning Waits but both ran well on dirt and turf so I’m hoping for a great cross.  Siegfried is named after Prince Siegfried in Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake.  After throwing themselves in the lake so they can always be together, Odette and Siegfriend ascend to heaven as the sun rises.

7 foals
4 colts, 3 fillies

Love the names, especially Siegfried.

Thanks!

Cute foals with cute names!

Nice foals :slight_smile:

Congrats on a healthy Joy foal! Love the name (and the dam).

Thanks! :slight_smile: I’m excited to see him run!

Two more foals today! Strawberryswing was over a week late.

[color=blue]Atman
9.1hh black colt
NCh. Lasting Spirit x Parasha

This handsome boy was born pretty early this morning. Mom was not the best runner but she did win a few races over steeplechase.  Lasting Spirit was a nice steeplechaser so I’m hoping he adds some class. Atman is a word that from Sanskrit that means ‘self,’ and in Hinduism is considered the first principle, the essence of an individual.

Parasha is going to see Lucky Streak.

[color=red]Devil’s Trill
9.3hh dark grey filly
ICh. Unabridged x Ch. Strawberryswing

I love this filly! She’s pretty big and was Strawberry’s first foal.  Unabridged is one of my favorites on FF (I’m a sucker for any greys) and I’m very pleased Trill is a grey as well. :slight_smile: Strawberryswing won the Kentucky Oaks and BC Distaff as a three year old but tailed off pretty sharply for her four year old season. Devil’s Trill is more formally known as Violin Sonata in G Minor and is a beautiful, difficult piece.

Strawberryswing is off to see Carrowmere.

9 foals
[color=blue]5 colts, [color=red]4 fillies
12 foals left

My boy is absolutely flattered!  :wink:  Congratulations on a healthy filly and I wish you the best of luck with her. Love the name!

Love the names. :slight_smile:
