RC Bee 2018 Crop

Love the names :slight_smile:

A foal I did not expect decided he had enough of baking inside his momma.

[color=blue]Archimedes is a well-sized dark gray colt by Eighteen Karat-Stand Back, by Highland Pride. He is an extended Worth/Rogue cross, the only reason why I claimed his dam. Came up with his name by going from the dam’s name, Stand Back, to the xkcd saying “Stand back - I’m going to try science!” to his sire’s name, Eighteen Karat, to the dude who shouted “Eureka!” while running through the streets naked.

Stand Back is up for lease for $5,000.

[color=blue]17 colts / [color=red]15 fillies / 0 stillborn / 6 foals left

A foal actually arrives on her delivery date. Amazing.

[color=red]Midnight City is a beautiful bay filly by Deep Impact-Successful Sister, by Hope To Succeed. She comes from a line of stakes producers, though she is the first for her dam.

Successful Sister is shipping home for a date with Eighteen Karat.

[color=blue]17 colts / [color=red]16 fillies / 0 stillborn / 5 foals left

Filly arrived a couple minutes after midnight, so now colts and fillies are at a tie.

[color=red]Book of Amun-Ra is a perfect little liver chestnut filly by Golden Text-Not A Prospector, by Mr. Prospector. She is named after a highly valuable and powerful book of spells in the film The Mummy, which is one of my favorite movies of all time. The book is said to be made of solid gold and the person seeking it, Evie, is most certainly not a treasure hunter - she’s a librarian, thank you very much! Anyway, the setup was just perfect and I had to name the filly after that golden book. She has a solid pedigree, too, though it’ll be a couple years before we find out if it’s as golden and valuable as her namesake.

Not A Prospector has been leased for the year.

[color=blue]17 colts / [color=red]17 fillies / 0 stillborn / 4 foals left

Nice filly with a lovely name :slight_smile:

I love when the perfect name falls together like that!  Congrats.

Been lazy/busy the past several weeks but all foals have arrived safely and their dams are all in good health. Thank goodness!

[color=blue]Galaxy Guardian is a handsome gray colt by Galaxy’s Zodiac-Egyptian Jazz, by Jazz It Up. Sort of obviously named after Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, lol  His dam was a nice turf sprinter and also a half-sister to Akhetnaten, plus some other fine runners.

Egyptian Jazz has been leased for the year.

[color=blue]Santero is a bright chestnut colt by Eighteen Karat-Santeria. His mother is one of my starter horses and she did her best running at four while Karat did his best running at three and four years of age, so this one might just be a late bloomer. A santero is a priest of santeria, a religion of West African and Caribbean origins.

Santeria is up for lease for $3,500.

Next is [color=blue]Project Insight, a liver chestnut colt by Long Live The King-Fair Image, by Man O’War. He’s named after one of the plot points of the movie Captain America: The Winter Soldier. His sire is doing pretty well right now but Fair Image is unproven. She was a nice runner, though.

Fair Image has been bred back to Lucky Streak.

The last - but certainly not least - arrival is [color=blue]Aether, a lovely smallish black colt by Eighteen Karat-Magical Stone. Magical Stone currently has one runner and she’s doing… all right. The mare herself wasn’t much of a runner so if this colt exceeds my not-so-high expectations I’ll be real happy. He’s named after a magical artifact in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, just like his older siblings.

Magical Stone is up for lease for $2,500.

Final tally is [color=blue]21 colts and [color=red]17 fillies. Of the current 2YO crop of homebreds, one has been a total surprise who’s making his case for stakes competition. I hope these new babies and the yearlings getting their first taste for training back at the farm can follow up on that.
