o____________o - My face when I decided to check Stable Overview and found four mares had their foals some time after midnight. Preeeeetty sure none of them were supposed to foal today, lol
The first is a hiiiiighly anticipated foal by one of my favorite mares. [color=red]Starfleet Captain - Eighteen Karat-Fleet Hope, by Count Fleet - is a gorgeous big bay at 10hh. She’s very plain, no markings like her sire. Her parents are of similar racing aptitudes - run long on the lawn - and I hope that works out fantastically.
Fleet Hope is currently not booked to any studs because I can’t find one for her that I like. cries
Second is [url=http://www.finalfurlong.org/viewhorse.php?horse=27950][color=red][b]Light of E
Mare decided her baby needed to vacate her body tonight rather than four days later, so -
[color=blue]Oakenshield is his current name. He’s a handsome black colt by Ring of Fire-Napoleons Waterloo, by Bold Ruler. I could not for the life of me think up an appropriate name based on his parents, so I decided “To hell with it” and gave him a Tolkien name. I might change it later if I do find a more Waterloo-esque name. He’s his dam’s second foal and second colt.
lol that could work if one stretches things a bit, but right now it seems a little too… tacky? And Oakenshield is actually growing on me as a name. A dark, dark colt like the majestically broody dwarf he’s named after. If he was even half as tenacious and stubborn as his namesake I’ll be a very happy breeder indeed, xD
Well the mare I’m waiting on hasn’t shown any signs of letting go of her foal but two other mares decided to give it a go.
Fillies are running the foal barn here - first up is [color=red]Counting Stars, a big pretty chestnut by Eighteen Karat-Beldarin, by Crystal Rainbow. I’m not completely sold on the name but I can’t figure out what/who Beldarin is and Google won’t tell me, so it’ll have to do for now. I may have completely mismanaged her dam after claiming her out of a race she won, but she wasn’t too shabby going long and Karat will hopefully supply speed and class. Stars is her first foal.
Beldarin is up for lease, but since she gave me a filly I might consider selling her instead.
And then there’s [color=red]Red Sky Warning, a more average-sized chestnut by In The Navy-Rainy Day Morning, by Northern Dancer. I made this filly happen for just one reason - the classy and influential Sunset Beach shows up 4S x 4D in her pedigree.
Her name is inspired by the old saying "Red sky at night, sailor
[color=red]Diamond In The Sky is a big beautiful plain black filly by Eighteen Karat-Diamond Prospector, by Mr. Prospector. Overdue by three days but she’s alive, healthy, and hale, which is all I need; I waited years for a foal from this cross and I hope it’s a good one - parents are multiple graded stakes winners, though one was long-winded and the other was a sprinter who also magically won a 10.5f dirt allowance. This is Diamond Prospector’s first live foal.
She’ll be bred back to Edinburgh, hopefully for another exciting baby.
[color=red]Hardscrabble is a well-sized dark bay filly by Doodles-Miss My Scribbles, by Secretariat. The name comes from this random bit of trivia, which is that when the US general and president Ulysses S. Grant got married, he built a house for his wife and called it “Hardscrabble” because it was just a terribly constructed building. But I’m sure the pixel filly version is well conformed by comparison, Her sire was an elite steeplechaser and her dam was a multiple winner who could either sprint or run marathons, but not succeed at a mile. This cross was chosen because Scribbles has a stakes winning half-sister by Doodles’ sire Red Sunset.
[color=blue]Thu’um is an average-sized chestnut colt by Take Me Away-Art of Life, by Secretariat. Not sure why I set up the cross, to be honest. His name comes from the highly addicting game Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim; Thu’um are words of power in the dragon tongue.
Congrats on the TMA colt! Nice name - I’ve got Skyrim sitting at home waiting for me to have time (and a place - lots of redecorating/renovating going on) to play it.
Super overdue mare has finally decided to foal. She’s only 19 days late, :'D She blew her Feb 1B booking to Changeling, though. That’s a problem.
Overdue foal is now named [color=blue]Arkenstone (unless I decide Vishvarupa sounds more intriguing later on, lol). He is huge at 10.3hh, and a chestnut like his dam. He’s by Eighteen Karat-Vishnu, by Irish River. His dam is a stakes-placed turf router so her racing aptitude is near identical to Karat’s.
Vishnu’s 2018 date is up in the air. I might just send her back to Karat and skip the hassle of getting her booked again.
