Nice colt! I like Arkenstone, followed by Vishvarupa as a name.
Thanks; he’s quite a handsome bugger. Those two names are my favorite. Good thing I have two years to decide which one I like better!
Another vote for Arkenstone. He’s very handsome
Do you want me to put you in a Feb 2 one or a March one?
Too late, I bred her back to my stud. I’m running uncomfortably low on funds anyway; perhaps next year?
Fillies, fillies, fillies.
Introducing [color=red]Transcendent, a lovely liver chestnut filly by Eighteen Karat-Divine Touch, by Point Given. Divine Touch was not the best investment racing-wise, but she has a decent pedigree and she does have a multiple stakes-winning half-sibling by a Worth-line stallion, so I hope Transcendent will do well.
Divine Touch is up for lease for $7,500.
The other new arrival is [color=red]Dance of Spring, a pretty plain bay by new sire Deep Impact-Enchanted Evening, by Highland Pride. I’m not 100% sold on the name but I have two years to figure it out, lol She is her sire’s first filly, and my stable’s ninth.
Enchanted Evening will be bred back to Eighteen Karat, which was the plan when I bought her. Now to ship her home…

Was busy yesterday due to the (Chinese) New Year and also had no idea what to name the new foal. Then another mare foaled days early today.
[color=red]Year of the Horse is a lovely chestnut filly by Eighteen Karat-Sheridan’s Valley. She was born on the day of the Year of the Horse, so why not? I created Sheridan’s Valley and wanted to name her foal something related to the Shenandoah Valley but decided this name was a far better one. Parents have the same racing aptitude; hopefully, Karat will infuse Valley’s girl with some class.
Sheridan’s Valley is up for lease for $5,000.
Today’s newest arrival is [color=blue]Solitude, another chestnut. He is by Take Me Away-Solar Mystique, by Spectacular Bid. Didn’t know what to name him so decided to take inspiration from Skyrim. Solitude is the name of the “capitol” of Skyrim and the base of the Imperial faction. I think the cross was inspired by some kind of Cigar/Spectacular Bid cross? I can’t remember.
Solar Mystique has been leased for the 2018 breeding season.
Checked my spreadsheets and apparently I have a bunch of mares overdue right now. @___@
[color=blue]5 colts / [color=red]10 fillies / 0 stillborn/ 23 foals left
Great name! Maybe I’ll use it in Spanish
New baby in the barn! She’s just a day overdue, which is better than what I can say for the foals still baking inside their mommas. fffffffffffffffff
[color=red]Caipirinha is a pretty brown filly by Oscillation-Voodoo Cocktail, by Cigar. Another match I can’t remember the reason for; might be some kind of extended Slew/Cigar cross I’m trying to aim for or some kind of inbreeding to Slew, seeing as Caipirinha’s granddam is by A.P. Indy. She’s named for Brazil’s signature cocktail, like how her half-brother is named for a type of Scotch whiskery.
Voodoo Cocktail’s been leased for the 2018 breeding season.

Just got back from a trip to Hong Kong and am looking at three new foals while realizing a bunch of mares blew their breeding dates. I’m so done with overdue mares.
[color=blue]Gangnam Style is a big blood bay by Eighteen Karat-Dancing Regal. He is her first foal and I’m very happy that they are both doing well. I waited so long to use this name and it just so happens that I’m currently staying in Gangnam, lol Parents both ran long on dirt and turf, so he should do his best running as a 4YO in the really long races.
Dancing Regal bombed her date with Long Live The King so I’m currently scrambling to get that fixed.
Next up is a lovely chestnut colt. [color=blue]Lord Somerled is by Carrowmore-Scotland’s Glory, by Highland Laird and he is inbred to the great mare Lymerick 3s x 4d. He has a really beautiful pedigree and almost makes me afraid to keep him because I might mismanage him, x’D Somerled is named after a 12th century warlord in… the Kingdom of the Isles, which according to a Wiki map is a region between Scotland and Ireland that’s full of islands.
Scotland’s Glory blew her booking date to home stud Karat so she’ll be bred to him in April.
Last of the trio of new babies is an [color=red]unnamed filly by Stressed-Lady Ironsides, by Man O’War. She’s a gorgeous gray with lots of white, especially on her face. The filly is another fun cross, as she is inbred to Man O’War 3s x 2d.
Lady Ironsides has been leased for the 2018 breeding season.
[color=blue]7 colts / [color=red]12 fillies / 0 stillborn / 19 foals left
Love the names! =)
The Lady Ironsides filly is now named [color=red]Lady Grey after a variation on the Earl Grey tea.
New colt showed up yesterday but couldn’t think of a name until earlier today. [color=blue]There Be Dragons is a handsome bay colt by In The Navy-Fairy Wish, by Highland Wizard. He’s another horse who should love going long, though I don’t know what surface he’ll prefer - his sire excelled on turf and his dam only ran the hurdles.
Fairy Wish is coming home for a late date with Eighteen Karat.
[color=blue]8 colts / [color=red]12 fillies / 0 stillborn / 18 foals left The colts are catching up!
A new baby to report at long last… and one I didn’t expect. I don’t even remember breeding this foal.
[color=red]Now For Ruin is a pretty dapple gray filly by Tiznow-Solient K, by Mr. Prospector. Her parents are… not great but she does have the nice Mr. Prospector as her broodmare sire. Went scrimmaging around for a name and then I heard Bernard Hill’s Theoden giving his epic Pelannor Fields speech in my head, so… that’s her name. I know Tiznow’s not a really great stud but he has sired a stakes winner or two, so there’s still hope!
Solient K is up for lease for $7,500.
[color=blue]8 colts / [color=red]13 fillies / 0 stillborn / 17 foals left
The foaling barn has some new faces tonight, including one that arrived nine days ahead of schedule.
[color=blue]Nine Rings is a pretty black colt by Void-Eudora, by Double Cross. He is inbred to the great Reine-de-Course Patriot Games 2S X 3D and will be very interesting to follow two years from now. His name is a reference to the nine rings given to nine kings of Men in the Lord of the Rings, excellent gifts that made them fade from the physical world.
Eudora will be bred back to Ring Of Fire.
[color=blue]Rhapsody in Gold is a BIG bay colt by Eighteen Karat-Sonatina, by Government Secret. He is her third foal, third colt, and the third to have a music-themed name. Sonatina was one of her sire’s five stakes winners and has some class. Karat will hopefully provide some more stamina. I expect Rhapsody to make some noise on dirt.
Sonatina will be leased this year.
[color=blue]10 colts / [color=red]13 fillies / 0 stillborn / 15 foals left
The colts have caught up!
First to arrive is [color=blue]A Devil’s Hunger, an overdue but lovely gray colt by Eighteen Karat-Ideal Ransom. Ransom was a hardy runner with a racing aptitude that matches Karat’s. She has one foal out on the track right now and I’m still waiting for her to show something.
Ideal Ransom is up for lease for $7,500.
I suppose the Ransom foal’s name would better fit Devil’s Test’s Long Live The King foal, [color=blue]Under The Mountain, a lovely strawberry roan. Another reference to The Hobbit, since the sire’s name could refer to the sons of Durin and the dam’s name could refer to the Arkenstone. Similar racing aptitudes here, and LLTK is doing pretty great as a sire. I am excite!
Devil’s Test will be bred back to Takemetohollywood.
Last but not least is a big dark bay colt by Doodles out of Romeo’s Girl, by Romeo - [color=blue]Dreaming Out Loud. He is his dam’s second foal and second colt. The colt is named after OneRepublic’s first big album; I thought the dreamy nature of its songs and its title fit in nicely with that kind of daydream-y doodling on notebook paper and on school desks that comes with being in love.
Romeo’s Girl will be leased this year.
[color=blue]13 colts / [color=red]13 fillies / 0 stillborn / 12 foals left
Lovely colts.
Got lazy about posting about the foals as they come, mainly because all the begging in the world won’t make Glory’s Jewel let go of her foal. She was due on the third of March.
But I have two fillies to report!
[color=red]Ching Shih was born on March 11th. She’s by In The Navy-Red Light District, by Citation, and is a light bay fireball. Her namesake was one of the most powerful and successful pirates in history, and one of the lucky few who got to retire from the pirate life but that was because the British got tired of chasing her and offered her and her entire fleet amnesty if they would just stop pirating. She also started her career working in a Cantonese brothel before being captured by pirates. Ching Shih the filly has quite a reputation to live up to, lol
Red Light District has been bred back to Ace of Hearts.
A new foal decided to show up tonight, a pretty black filly by Eighteen Karat-Fade to Black, by The Black. Her name is [color=red]Black And Gold, which is as uncreative a name as one can get but is also the name of one of my all time favorite songs, Black And Gold by Sam Sparro. Her dam was a decent routing steeplechaser who earned black type and her sire is a turf/dirt router, so I bet she’ll end up a sprinter who flounders on all surfaces.
Fade to Black will be leased for this year.
[color=blue]13 colts / [color=red]15 fillies / 0 stillborn / 10 foals left
I’m waiting on one from the 6th. Silly mares.
Nice fillies.
Late foal is late by 24 days but both he and his mother are doing well.
[color=blue]Cometh The Hour is a BIG dark bay colt by Tiznow-Glory’s Jewel. He comes by his size honestly, as Jewel is a big ol’ brick $%!*house at 17.3 hands. No idea what to expect of him but Jewel has produced two winners out two starters so there’s some promise. His name comes from the saying “Cometh the hour, cometh the man.”
Glory’s Jewel is up for lease for $3,500.
[color=blue]14 colts / [color=red]15 fillies / 0 stillborn / 9 foals left
Amazing. The fillies had a huge lead but with today’s newborns, the colts have taken it by one.
[color=blue]Dragon Emperor is a stunning black colt by Eighteen Karat-Golden Silk. I’m rather surprised he turned out black, given his sire is bay and his dam a light bay, lol. His parents could run long on dirt, so hopefully he’ll be able to do the same. His older brother Southern Silk Road will be making his first start soon.
Golden Silk is up for lease for $3,500.
[color=blue]Helmsman is a handsome bay colt by Eighteen Karat-Sea Born Breeze, by Seabiscuit. He has a rather classy and rather amusing pedigree; Sea Born Breeze’s half brother A Mighty Wind ran against Eighteen Karat several times.
Sea Born Breeze has been leased to Marshall Creek Ranch.
