What’s Honor kept her legs crossed just long enough and then delivered a lovely bay filly by Ring of Fire. Name’s undecided since it’s 1:22 AM and I ought to be in bed, but man I am so excite! What’s Honor will be bred back to Galaxy’s Zodiac. Edit: filly is now named [color=red]Oath.
Light Up Your Life foaled eight days early but I’m not complaining - she produced my stallion’s first foal, a lovely bay colt by Eighteen Karat. I’ll come up with a name but for now I’m gonna bask in the glow of two healthy foals on the ground. Light Up Your Life will be bred back to Oscillation. Edit: colt is now named [color=blue]Shine Brighter.
I suppose we had to run into bad luck somewhere. Second time my most highly anticipated cross doesn’t pan out, and now there’s an unpleasant mark on my stallion’s record.
Diamond Prospector’s filly by Eighteen Karat is stillborn. I think we’ll be cancelling her booking to As You Wish and trying for another Karat foal.
I think I’d be handling it a lot better if I hadn’t waited four years for this foal to arrive, ='D Claimed the mare when she was three and raced her alongside Eighteen Karat for three years. Well, at the very least she’s healthy - if very depressed - so we have another shot at a Eighteen Karat-Diamond Prospector foal.
Two new healthy foals, and their very tired mommas, have arrived,
First is a sizable dark bay Moonopoly (B)-Miss My Scribbles, by Secretariat (S) filly we’re currently calling [color=red]Draw The Moon. I have no idea what to make of this cross (don’t even remember why I picked him as her date) but I hope I get something good. Scribbles will be bred back to Doodles.
Second is another dark by, this time a Count Me In (S)-Napoleons Waterloo, by Bold Ruler (G) colt temporarily now named [color=blue]Scots Grey. Waterloo has a date with Ring of Fire.
Still waiting on another broodie to drop her Jan. 3 foal…
Firstly, brain fart - didn’t have a third mare due Jan. 3rd. Secondly, one of my broodies delivered a day early. Finally got a new baby in the barn.
Created mare Golden Silk delivered [color=blue]a healthy dark bay colt by the now-retired Seattle Sorceror, making him a member of the stallion’s last crop. I’m really torn on what to name him; currently calling him Q for the character in Star Trek: TNG but this morning called him Qi, which is another way of spelling “chi”, the Chinese concept of life energy. Also considering Black And Gold and Seattle Gold. Anyone have any suggestions?
Plan was to sell Golden Silk in foal to the home stud but I really want a filly out of her before I sell her on so I guess she’ll be staying with us and having that date with Eighteen Karat later in the year.
Still undecided on the Golden Silk colt - now leaning towards Pacific Gold, AsQ, and Qi, laskjdf;slkdfj - but we’ll worry about that later; we got two new Karat foals in the barn!
First is the currently-named [color=blue]Uprising, a handsome gray colt by NCh. Eighteen Karat-Ch. Lady Ironsides, by Man O’War (S). He was in a hurry to get out - Momma wasn’t due until Feburary 5th, lol. I’m honestly really excited for this foal; I bought Ironsides my first year on FF and agonized over her racing career because I shelled out 70.5k for some reason, right? His name’s currently Uprising due to the dam being named after one of America’s first war ships (also in a distant show of solidarity for an axed Disney cartoon). I might switch it to Goldships or something, not sure.
Ironsides will be bred back to Stressed (seems like Secretariat/Man O’War crosses do really well).
Second is another Karat colt and we’ve definitely settled on a name for him. Introducing [color=blue]Gilt, a lovely bay by NCh. Eighteen Karat-Red Light District, by Citation (B). Picked his name both for meaning and for play on sound - gilt means “covered in gold leaf or gold paint” and it sounds like “guilt”, which seems apt for some people’s attitude towards visiting the red light district in some cities. Momma raced in my colors for years and she has some fantastic half-siblings; hopefully she’ll pass those running genes on to her two sons.
Red Light District will be bred back to In The Navy.
Aaaaand the colts have a big lead this year, which is new. Just hope Karat gets some fillies; all three of his live foals are boys.
First up is [color=blue]Laphroaig, a dark gray colt by GCh. High On Love-Voodoo Cocktail, by Cigar. Laphroaig is a Scotch distillery and an area of land somewhere in Scotland. Cross is inspired by the one that produced Spock.
Voodoo Cocktail will be bred back to Oscillation. I was also a genius in that I screwed up her booking but luckily the stallion had an open spot for her earliest breeding date. I gotta pay better attention when queuing up my mares’ dates.
Second foal of the night is the hopefully aptly named [color=blue]This Is War, a dark bay colt by NCh. Call To War-Fairy Wish, by NCh. Highland Wizard. I might change his name later, since I pulled it from the song “Some Nights” by Fun. due to the song being stuck in my head. I was hoping for a filly but I’ll take a healthy foal any day. I’ll just have to send Momma back to him, or hope her next foal is a live filly.
Fairy Wish will be bred back to In The Navy, because I am determined to send her to Man O’War-line studs until she throws me a girl.
In other news, changed What’s Honor’s filly’s name for a third time. Hopefully it’ll stick. On the other hand, I’m still stuck on what to name Golden Silk’s colt. I might go with Chrysopoeia, an alchemic term meaning “transmutation into gold”. And I still have a mare due January 30th, Dx
