We were very glad to see all our mares hang on to January 1st! We had a few that were VERY close to foaling before the New Year.
This morning Phantom Melody could hold out no longer and gave birth to a very nice strawberry roan filly by ICh. Dark Continent. We decided to name her, [color=red]Optical Illusion
Thanks Cat, here’s hoping she has a rich future ahead of her!
We didn’t get much sleep last night again, Ch. Golden Quest gave birth to a beautiful bay filly sired by ICh. Candidate. We named the filly [color=red]Incandescent.
We probably won’t be getting much sleep for the forseeable future, we have another 4 mares due within the week. We are especially anxious about one mare who has yet to deliver a live foal. Luckily we now have a vet on premises, so we are very hopeful everything will go well this year.
We are VERY happy to announce that Ain’t I Pretty safely gave birth to a handsome dark gray son of A.P. Indy. After foaling twice, both times resulting in a dead foal, we were very nervous about both our mare and the foal. We are ecstatic that everything went well this time and Ain’t I Pretty is very happy to finally be a mother. Despite being a maiden mare she mourned the loss of her other foals.
We named the handsome boy, [color=blue]Lucky Devil
Back on the 10th, Ballroom Dancer unfortunately gave birth to a stillborn A.P. Indy filly. We most likely will send her back to A.P. Indy next year and hope for a live foal.
I checked the database for this year’s crop and the stillborn rate is 5%, when it should be about 0.3%. I’ll be looking into the code and possibly tweaking numbers (though the math is ridiculously simple, PHP just does weird things with random number picking).
