Oakwood Farm's 2014 Foals

We were very glad to see all our mares hang on to January 1st! We had a few that were VERY close to foaling before the New Year.

This morning Phantom Melody could hold out no longer and gave birth to a very nice strawberry roan filly by ICh. Dark Continent. We decided to name her, [color=red]Optical Illusion

Very pretty.  Congrats on having the first DC foal of the season!  Good luck with her.  =)

Thanks Cat, here’s hoping she has a rich future ahead of her!

We didn’t get much sleep last night again, Ch. Golden Quest gave birth to a beautiful bay filly sired by ICh. Candidate. We named the filly [color=red]Incandescent.

We probably won’t be getting much sleep for the forseeable future, we have another 4 mares due within the week. We are especially anxious about one mare who has yet to deliver a live foal. Luckily we now have a vet on premises, so we are very hopeful everything will go well this year.

We are VERY happy to announce that Ain’t I Pretty safely gave birth to a handsome dark gray son of A.P. Indy. After foaling twice, both times resulting in a dead foal, we were very nervous about both our mare and the foal. We are ecstatic that everything went well this time and Ain’t I Pretty is very happy to finally be a mother. Despite being a maiden mare she mourned the loss of her other foals.

We named the handsome boy, [color=blue]Lucky Devil

Con grats on the live foal… and the name is awesome…

Love the name.

Congrats on getting a healthy foal. Maiden mares and older mares do have a tougher time foaling.

Love all of the names & happy to see that mother and baby are fine this time through!

Congrats on your little Devil’s safe arrival! You’ve got some very lovely foals there.

At about 8 o’ clock this morning Ch. Be Kipper gave birth to a flea-bitten grey son of Smart Strike. We named him [color=blue]Air Raid.

Back on the 10th, Ballroom Dancer unfortunately gave birth to a stillborn A.P. Indy filly. We most likely will send her back to A.P. Indy next year and hope for a live foal.

Sorry about your filly. :frowning:

Ouch.  That’s an expensive foal to lose.  Best wishes for next year.

Is it just me or have there been a lot more stillborns so far this year than normal?

I checked the database for this year’s crop and the stillborn rate is 5%, when it should be about 0.3%. I’ll be looking into the code and possibly tweaking numbers (though the math is ridiculously simple, PHP just does weird things with random number picking).

Better news this time around, Ch. Detour safely gave birth to a pretty bay filly sired by Highland Laird. We named the filly [color=red]Diversion.

Yay, go Army Laird! Cute name.

Yesterday two of our mares went into labor and both delivered healthy colts.

Foolish Pride gave birth to a strapping black colt by Point Given. We named the colt, [color=blue]Fool Proof.

Kill A Mockingbird gave birth to a good looking chestnut son of GCh. Go For Dash. We decided on [color=blue]Gyrfalcon for him.

You’ll need a new name for Gyrfalcon, as it’s too close to Gryfalcon (2008 colt).

Congrats on cute babies, though!

Ha! I could have sworn that name had been used. Was surprised when it allowed the name didn’t think of it being spelled differently!  :stuck_out_tongue:

We decided on a new name for Kill A Mockingbird’s colt, we decided on [color=blue]Boo Radley.

Baby Book gave birth this morning to a black filly by our in house stallion ICh. Candidate. We named the filly, [color=red]Skaters Brush.
