My Old Kitty

My poor old kitty is not looking very good these days. She’s very weak and she seems to be losing it. We’re gonna have the vet look at her and see what we can do tomorrow, but I’m not very encouraged by how she’s been doing lately. She’s 13 years old and I’ve had her since she was 8 weeks old. She’s had a great life as we very much spoiled her, lol, as I’m sure many pet owners do. And I rescued her from a pound, so she coulda had it alot worse. Even so, it is very hard to see something or someone you love deteriorate. I hope she isn’t suffering, that’s what I’m most concerned with now. She is still eating and drinking water pretty regularly. But she is physically in bad shape, maybe arthritis in her back legs as well, and very weak and skinny. Anyway, you guys been great and I ask any of you who would like to, just say a word or two to see her (and me) through her tough times. Thanks guys.

Ohhh, poor kitty. :frowning: It is really scary and sad to see someone you love getting old and near the end of their life, whether they’re a person or animal. But you’re right, she has had a pretty nice, long life being pampered and cared for. And kitties like to pretend that they don’t care, but they know when you love them. I hope that the vet will be able to make her more comfortable and maybe give her a little longer time here. Whatever happens, I wish you both well.

Ditto. Good luck at the vet’s and I hope there’s something they can do. I know how hard it is, my cat’s getting pretty old too. :frowning:

Good luck with your kitty. Mine’s 11 and in pretty good shape except for the fact that she’s blind. We’ve decided that once she no longer appears happy anywhere in the house (she’s constantly paranoid about the other animals), and when she no longer enjoys petting at all (currently you have to catch her at a good time or she’ll spaz that you’re a dog), then it’s time for her to go.

Not sure if that helps, but maybe the vet can help you determine “must haves” for your cat’s life, so that once those start going, you know it’s time. :frowning:

Best wishes, and good luck.

A couple years ago, we had to put down our extremely old dog. 13 years for a large breed is a long life. My dad had the hardest time saying good bye to him. He kept taking the dog back to the vet, hoping for a “little more time”. It was a sad time for us, because we could see our dog wanted peace, but my dad just hung on. Hopefully your vets will giving you staging points. When you kittie can no longer “…” you know its time. :frowning: I hope everything works out for you and your kitty.

Hope the vet can either do something for her, or determine what the problem is. It’s always hard letting anything go, be it animal or human.

I hope the vet can help your cat. We’ve taken in several stray’s over the years. Right now one of our cats approx. 10 yrs old has diabetes, and we’re woking on getting his insulin dosage right. We even had a blind cat. She was born with out eyes. It’s tough to see them pass on but you have to know they had a better longer life with you than they would have had without you.

Awww :frowning: I know how you must feel. Not too long ago my old kitty cat got sick too. I hope yours gets better!

Thanks so much guys. We will be heading to the vet in a little bit. She seems to have her good and bad days, today she seems a little better. Been eating like a fat kitty, lol, so that’s good. Anyway, you guys make it alot easier. It’s good to know that there are people who care out there. Thank you so much for your kind words and encouragement.

I hope the vet has good news and advice for both of you!

Of course we care  I especialy know how much you can love a kitty, my cat is my constant companion. He only comes to me, and he’s with me as often as he can be. I remember how terrible it felt and how scared I was when he was both really sick and injured at once, and I thought he’d die.
I’m glad you’re cat is doing better though!

I can relate to your situation, because just a few months ago we lost one of our cats. His name was Romeo, and his name fit him perfectly! He mysteriously came down with pneumonia, and after about 3 months and a few operations, we figured it was time to let him go. It’s so hard to lose a pet, especially one so special…I sincerely hope yours gets better

Hi guys,

We’ve decided to have a vet do a house call, so we won’t be heading to the vet today afterall. She’s always been very nervous and we don’t want to put her through the stress of going in the carrying case, the car, and the office where there will probably be other animals. So, I’m calling a few places now, and it will most likely be tomorrow when they come. Along with your very kind words, she seems to be a little better today, so those two things are making me feel alot better. Once again thank you for your encouragement, it does help alot.

Hey,
I hoe your cat gets better soon. I know how it is to have a loved one pass away. Hope your cat gets better soon!

Hey
i know how sad it is to lose a pet we lost our cat 3 weeks ago on the operating table, she had cancer and sadly nothign could be done. i bet your cat was very lucky to have a kind owner liek you and have a good long happy like unlike some other poor pound animals. i wish you all the best new for you and hope you cat is well.

I hope there’s something they can do for your cat. My cat at my dads house is five years old and about fifteen pounds, but he’s well loved by my dad and me when I go down there.

Well today was a bad day. We brought her to the vet and had them do a complete exam. The news was very bad. She has kidney failure, which is the most serious, also she had an ear infection and a brain tumor. She could barely lift her head today, and didn’t want to eat or drink. Today she was the worst I’ve seen her and the health issues she has are very serious. After a talk with the vet and a talk with my family members, we all decided to have her put to sleep. The vet felt she had advanced kidney failure, and her conditions would have probably deteriorated. Unfortunately, she was in such bad shape, we had to make a decision that was extremely difficult. I will always love her very much and will miss her alot.
On the bright side, she had a wonderful life with a loving family who treated her like the queen of the house. We gave her alot of love and care, and I’m sure she loved as as well . She will not go through any suffering, which I felt was the worst thing in the world to put her through. No animal or person deserves to suffer. I’m having her buried in a local pet cemetery, and will be making a tribute web site. Well, some days are harder than others. This was a really tough one for me.

I’m sorry to hear that about your kitty. :frowning: Those were some very serious health problems, though, and it would have taken a lot out of her to try to live with them day after day. You’re right, ultimately the kindest and most loving thing you can do is make sure that they don’t suffer. I hope that I’ll be able to be that brave when the time comes for my baby as well. The tribute site is a great idea, too. I’m sure you’ll always have lots of great memories of her to treasure.

I’m sorry to hear that the problems were that serious and impressed and happy that you managed to make such a tough decision. I hope you keep feeling ok about it.

Though it hurt, it was the right decision. I had a dog who at two we had to put down because of kidney failure.
