Wow your quick! Shes beautiful and will be even more so when she puts on a few pounds. Congrats!
She looks wonderful… I’m SOO happy for you Shanthi! If she looks this good underweight with a wintery coat, I can’t wait to see what she’ll look like in the spring…:-D… Congrats and hear-hear to love at first sight!
I got to see her this morning . She’s even cuter in person (her head didn’t seem to fit on her body in the pictures, but she just looks very very fit in person). Shanthi put her in the ring and we chased her around to see what she’d do. Other than trotting like an arab and not quite understanding how fences work, she looked really cute. Tons of hock action so that was interesting. She seems pretty calm/confident though, we stuck half a crossrail in the track of the ring and she just trotted over it without caring at all really. I was surprised, she never even thought about running out on it instead of going over it even just running around free.
Ok, enough gushing by me I’ll let Shanthi gush on her more when she gets off work. But, definately cute and surprisingly non-furry for coming from Ohio.
Oh. My. God.
So I rode her today and she was AMAZING. You wouldn’t have even known she probably had no clue what the hell she was doing (except for the counter-cantering ). We did w/t/c in both directions, transitions, halting (which she’s ok at, but she doesn’t like to stay stopped for long), and she was totally outstanding. The “worst” thing she did was glance out of the ring at the other horses a couple of times, and prick her ears and look curious about the dogs who were baying/barking incessantly down the road.
You can read the full, likely sickeningly gush-y story here, if you like.
Oh, and the vet and the farrier like her, too! (The vet more than the farrier, since apparently she was a bit antsy when he wanted to hold her foot for a while.)
I just looked at the pictures.I can see why you are so excited. What a beautiful horse!Good Luck with Her.
Mat
That’s so awesome.
I’ll probably never have the time/money/space/guts to have a horse of my own, but if I did I hope that I’d feel as excited and head-over-heels about her as you do. That’s so neat.
I hope this is the first of many wonderful days for both of you.
That’s so wonderful, Shanthi! It’s so much fun to work with young horses and make progress (though it doesn’t sound like she needed much convincing to be well-behaved). I’m in the same boat right now with my gelding. He’s gotten a lot saner even since the summer, and it’s a lot of fun to see him progress. Keep us updated on your beautiful mare!
SO incredibly awesome Shanthi! You definitely picked a good one… I’m impressed!
Shanthi, I just read the prospective boyfriends you have picked out for her, and I just had to say that Reputed Testamony is one of my favorite stallions ever. I bought my first horse from Denny Emerson, so I am biased towards his stallions, but we would take lessons with him down at his NC farm during spring break, so I actually got to see Reputed Testamony in person. Let me tell you, he is beautiful. If I ever breed my mare, he is definitely one of my top choices.
Awesome. His photos look gorgeous…I may take a road trip at some point and go meet him in person.
I just hope he’s still standing at stud when I get around to breeding Magic.
Glad it went well Woulda been nice to go watch, but I’m still sick… gah, this is getting old. Not to mention making me very behind in my paper reading, which I better get back to if I want to get through the remaining 3 out of 4 I have left to read tonight
More photos, if anyone’s interested.
We attempted “jumping” on the lunge line yesterday, which basically equated to walking over a cavaletti on the ground. Her feet are still ouchy from the farrier’s visit last Friday, so we took it easy. She was a bit dubious about it, and very not happy about trotting at it, but at a walk she handled it great. (And with ouchy feet, I wouldn’t really want to trot up to something weird and jump over it, either.)
Aww, she looks really sweet. You look like you’re having a lot of fun with her, that’s awesome! I love looking at your pictures.
Thanks, she really is a sweetheart.
What a nice match you two make. She’s a very nice looking mare.
very nice well worth it!
She looks like she is making great progress!!
she looks so sweet, and i love the spots on her white by her hooves. She definately looks like she has personality, the pic where she looks like shes going to sleep with one ear back and one forward is my fave i think. Good luck with her , I bet you have lots of fun!!
Magic looks very cute and sweet. What breed is she? She looks like a Thoroughbred with some Warmblood. My first horse was a Swedish Warmblood/Connomara/Trakhener. I loved that horse. Still do. I wish she was still alive.
She’s a Thoroughbred…hence the 1) race record 2) life at the track 3) anorexic greyhound horse look
