I love the name.
Love the name and look forward to hosting your mare!
Cute I like the name , (or evening vespers is another way to say it).
It has been an incredibly busy week at Ivy Creek. We have been busy preparing for tonight’s auction, during the preparations of which, 5 more of our mares decided to present their babies. We welcomed 3 fillies and 2 colts:
PALERMO STONE - 2016 bay colt, 9.0hh
SIRE: GCh. Akhetnaten {S} (NCh. Lucky Cigar {G} x Egyptian Pharaoh {S})
DAM: Danzatore {B} (Danzig {G} x Last Challenge {B})
Handsome colt from some impressive lines. This cross was chosen due to the success of the Lucky Cigar/Danzig cross that produced the stallion, Sleipnir. I could only hope for half that talent. His sire has produced several MSWs. His dam has produced two stakes placed colts and several winners. He is named after the stone that has a list of Egypt’s rulers inscribed into it.
DANZATORE is hopefully going to visit Gotta Go, because her dam produced a stakes winner when crossed with his sire, Go For Dash.
EXTOL - 2016 chestnut colt, 9.3hh
SIRE: WCh. What’s Debatable {S} (What’s It Worth {P} x That’s Debatable {G})
DAM: Highland Treasure (GCh. Highland Laird {S} x Harada’s Treasure {S})
This tall colt was bred to include a (distant) Rogue/Worth cross. His sire has produced a large proportion of stakes level ponies, so we can only hope that he may someday be among those numbers. He is the third foal from his dam, and the 2YO is on the small side so has never started yet. I have high hopes for this cross, though, and the colt is certainly striking. His name means ‘to sing the praises of’, and I hope that someday I may be able to do that for him.
HIGHLAND TREASURE is hopefully visiting another Worth son, Eighteen Karat.
SHARPSHOOTER - 2016 bay filly, 8.0hh
SIRE: ICh. Long Live The King (Bold Ruler {G} x Infinity {P})
DAM: Rodeo Cowgirl {B} (Omaha {S} x Her Highness {B})
This petite filly is the fifth from her dam, and all have been bred by Ivy Creek. The 4YO colt has matured into a nice multi-winning allowance pony, though he just had his first stakes attempt and finished a respectable 5th. The batch of them appear to be later maturing, though mom had her best year at an ideal 3 years old. But I am excited about the prospects of adding the Long Live The King/Bold Ruler lines to the mix. The cross was chosen specifically to mimic NCh. Western Star, a millionaire MSW from the Omaha/Bold Ruler cross.
RODEO COWGIRL is being auctioned off - it begins in a few short hours.
HALLELUJAH - 2016 blue roan filly, 8.3hh
SIRE: WCh. Express Yourself (What’s It Worth {P} x GCh. Make An Impression {G})
DAM: Sunday Living {B} (Sunday Silence {S} x Viva V {S})
I have wanted an Express Yourself baby since before he ever retired, but with him all the way down in Aus, it’s quite an investment. Sunday Living got nominated to ship down there last year, and this foal has been hotly anticipated since then. This filly is 1/2 to stakes winner, Ch. Six Ways to Sunday, and is the 5th live foal from her dam. It will be exciting to see what this filly is capable of once she matures. Also, I was shocked that the name hadn’t been taken, but it seemed a fitting tie in to Sunday (church) and a way to express yourself there.
SUNDAY LIVING is still down in Aus, and is hopefully visiting Strike It Rich for her next foal.
GONEWITHTHEWIND - 2016 grey filly, 9.0hh
SIRE: WCh. Gotta Go (GCh. Go For Dash {S} x Times Ebony {P})
DAM: Playful Breeze (NCh. I’m A Classic {S} x Lucky Breeze {S})
I’m so excited to have a tall, healthy filly from this cross! Gotta Go is establishing himself as a reliable sire, with a couple of MSWs and several 2YO winners. This is the first foal from the dam, who is 1/2 to four stakes level ponies from the 6 of them to run. I’m incredibly excited about her dam in the breeding shed, as I very poorly managed her racing career and believe she could have been much more if I had devoted more attention to her. I will eagerly be anticipating this filly’s maturity so that we may someday find out what her dam may have been. And this name was one I surely thought would have been taken - the perfect blend of a “classic” dealing with “go” and “breeze”.
PLAYFUL BREEZE is off to visit One Lucky Soul for a bit of (distant) linebreeding to Lucky Cigar, for kicks.
18 fillies | 14 colts | 5 still due
1 stillborn, 1 mare retirement
Love the name Gonewiththewind – it works so well with the sire/dam names! I’m always a sucker for creative names like that. Extol is also super pretty. Congrats on all the new healthy foals!
Love the name Hallelujah! I’m shocked it wasn’t taken.
Congrats on the healthy Gotta Go filly! She looks gorgeous.
Another filly!
And it’s official that the fillies will win out this year… No complaints here!
LONDON GALA - 2016 chestnut filly, 9.1hh
SIRE: NCh. Dark Demand (Black Knight {S} x In Demand {P})
DAM: Olympic Gold (created)
This pretty filly is named after the upcoming 2012 festivities in London - with all the hype right now, how could I not? Mom was a multi-winner who didn’t run til 4YO, but had a penchant for finishing in the top two for a majority of her starts at 4 and 5YO. She just missed becoming stakes placed (at 5YO), running 4th in a G3 race. I am wondering what she might have become had she started sooner and run under someone other than FF - and as a safety, I have bred her with a 2YO Colt of the Year to add more talent and hopefully YOUNGER talent (not knowing if mom had any). I’m excited to see what becomes of this girl…
OLYMPIC GOLD is hopefully visiting Count Me In, another 2YO Colt of the Year.
19 fillies | 14 colts | 4 still due
1 stillborn, 1 mare retirement
Congrats! So cute. Biting my nails here 2 overdue now with 15 more for the next few weeks! Tieto threaten them with something. Lol
Cute name.
Another filly to report!
Yesterday, amid all the festivities, our mare Meadowlight went into labor and produced a lovely little filly just before midnight…
SKY LANTERN - 2016 dark bay filly, 8.3hh
SIRE: NCh. Joyeux Oiseau (created)
DAM: Meadowlight {B} (created)
This pretty filly comes from a dam who has produced all winners so far (from 2 runners). The sire is a new one, so we have nothing to base his production abilities on - she’s a mystery in that regard. She is named after our 4th of July celebration - as we were laying in the park (sort of a “meadow” reference, waiting for the fireworks display to begin, someone somewhere off in the distance let off a couple of these little paper “sky lanterns” - we watched them cross the entire dusk sky as a very serene, unofficial “preshow” to the fireworks. It was vividly beautiful.
MEADOWLIGHT is headed to see Carrowmore next.
20 fillies | 14 colts | 2 still due
1 stillborn, 1 mare retirement
(1 mare sold in foal…but she had a filly, too!)
Lovely name, congrats. My barns been hopping this week too!
Congrats on your new Joy baby! And I love the name. Hope she does well for you later.
Love the name.
Love Sky Lantern. Reminds me of all the lights in Tangled
I am sad to report that we lost a foal today…
SIRE: ICh. Dark Continent {S} (Land Ho {S} x Dark Victory {P})
DAM: D’licious {B} (created)
The dam has only had 1 foal to race significantly, and even he has been sitting at the farm for his 4YO season, despite being a multi-winner (won or placed in 6 of 10 starts last year) She hasn’t had a real chance to prove herself yet with the others, but I think talent lies there. This would have been our second filly from the dam. And with DC starting to show his worth as a sire (now that his 3YOs are flourishing), this is a sad loss for us.
D’LICIOUS has been booked back to Dark Continent to give this cross another try.
20 fillies | 14 colts | 1 still due
2 stillborns, 1 mare retirement
(1 mare sold in foal)
Sorry about your foal, good luck with the 2017 one.
Our final foal arrived safe and sound, insuring that the fillies would most definitely win this year…
LARKSPUR - 2016 strawberry roan filly, 9.1hh
SIRE: ICh. Dark Continent {S} (Land Ho {S} x Dark Victory {P})
DAM: Springwalker {B} (created)
This flashy filly is out of an up-and-coming broodmare, being 1/2 to two runners so far - one is a stakes placed MW, and the 3YO is a winner. We have the yearling colt (by Rahy), so I’m excited to see how he does once he hits the track next year. The other two have been running under FF’s erratic management. She is named after the spring flower…mostly just because I like how it sounds.
SPRINGWALKER will be visiting the exciting Candidate next.
FOALING SEASON SUMMARY
21 fillies
14 colts
(35 live births)
2 stillborns
1 mare retirement
1 mare sold in-foal (who later produced a filly - go figure!)
All in all, it’s been a very successful foaling season, thank goodness.
And now begins the long wait 'til January before we get to do it all over again…
Congrats on the healthy DC filly. Love the name. =)
Sorry about the stillborn DC foal. Did you already pay for the rebreed? If so, PM me next year and I will set you up with a free breeding. He has a LFG.
Yeah, I went ahead & paid for another breeding to him, and she is currently back in foal to him. I didn’t realize he had a LFG - I looked at his bookings for this year, but didn’t see anything about it, so I didn’t pester you about it. That’s good to know for the future, though!
I hadn’t realized I had two DC foals due at the end of the year, but the second filly arriving safely definitely took a bit of the sting from the loss of the first. And HOPEFULLY a safe foal next year will help as well. Fingers crossed.
