This year’s foaling season started off with a bang - 3 foals in 3 days.  That’s an ICF first!  Now thanks to my new computer, I should get to log in more frequently…just in time for foaling season to really hit!  Unfortunately, that means I’m behind in planning breedings - eep!  Anyhow, please allow me to introduce…

V IS FOR VALIANT, colt, 8hh black, ICh. V is for Victory x I’m a Star (x created)
Firstborn foal of both her sire & her dam, but both were successful runners.  Mom was SP, and was an early maturing turf fan.  Dad matured later, and was more all-around.  We’ll see how this plays out, but I’m hoping mom’s 2YO/3YO peak is hereditary!

BRIANZA, filly, 9hh black, NCh. Bellagio x Sovereign Song (x created)
This is the second foal from this mare, her first filly.  Mom earned a speed record, and had some really high speed factors in her day, all in steeplechasing because she never got to run on the flat.  Dad was pretty much JUST flat dirt.  Oh, and she’s named for the part of Italy near Bellagio.

ALLNIGHTER, filly, 9.1hh flea-bitten grey, WCh. All Jazzed Up x Klondike Nights {B} (x Black Knight {S})
This flashy filly has 2 1/2 siblings to race, both winners.  Dad doesn’t have any babies on the track yet, as this is his second crop, but hopefully they at least make a solid allowance runner.

A fourth foal has arrived, and what a handsome boy he is!

This is the first foal from mom, a stakes-winning mare who excelled in turf sprints as a 2 & 3YO.  This is also dad’s first crop, and he was more of a late-maturing long distance guy.  I’m hoping that the two personalities/abilities combine or average out, but we shall see.

This stunning little fellow (almost no white on him!) should have some grit, according to his pedigree.  Mom is a stakes-winning classic turf runner, and dad needs no introduction.  However, neither one has any babies to run yet, so time will tell!

Yesterday was a joyous morning, where we added another handsome fellow to our ranks.  This morning, however, was a different story - the darkest day in Ivy Creek history thus far…

This handsome man is named after the Norse sword, and I hope he will be as fierce.  His half sister, Lovespell (x Magic Cross) will hit the tracks this spring, and mom was a decent runner.  It should be an interesting cross.

Then, 2 mares went into foal this morning.  Everything was done to ensure mare & foal safety, but there was nothing that could help.  So today, we lost BOTH babies - the first ever stillborn births at ICF.  I’m trying to stay positive and be thankful it took this long (it’s our 4th season), but it still hits hard.  Especially since BOTH were lost on the same day…

Another girl would have been nice, and this one was bred to combine Planet Hollywood with What’s Debateable, in the same fashion of Ch. Keep Quiet and SP Rings of Saturn.  Damn!  Fleur’s Debate was booked to Worth My While, but now we need a new game plan.  Might send her back to Rumor…

This was one of our most anticipated foals of the year from the beginning, before Rahy earned his gold title, and before he retired.  Madd Karol was one of our superstar mares, and was a runner-up for an eclipse award.  He could have been a star.  How disappointing.

Today we welcomed a healthy girl, and we have never been so grateful to see a baby take its first breath.

DJALI ZWAN, filly, 8.0hh dark bay, GCh. Starzen {B} x Adriatic Swan (x created)
Named after the acoustic band formed from members of The Smashing Pumpkins, A Perfect Circle, etc.  It seemed fitting and fun.  This is the first Starzen baby I’ve had, and although his ranking doesn’t look all that impressive, he is still fairly unproven in my book.  The dam, Adriatic Swan, was a multi-winner and holds a speed record for 13f turf.  I’m curious to see how she will produce.  This is her second foal - she has a yearling colt, Zadar, by What’s Your Point.

Another boy was born today, and even though it appears as if the fillies won’t catch them this year, I am far from complaining.  Healthy makes me happy!

I’m excited to have another RoF baby in the barn.  Mom, however, is as yet an unproven producer, and didn’t get much of a shot to prove herself on the track.  I like to think that she was a reallllly late bloomer, or was just finicky and didn’t get proper attention to make her shine.  Then again, there’s always a chance that she was just a dud (please, no!).  We’ll find out soon enough - her 2YO, Briolette of India, will run this year.

A live Worth My While baby!  Thank goodness.  So dad needs no introduction here.  Mom is more obscure, although she was a multi-winner and holds 3 speed records from 5f - 16f.  I’m hoping she passes her grit, and combined with a top sire like Worth My While, will create quite the runner.  We shall see!
