Very nice filly and I love the name you chose. So cute!
Two babies were born the other day, I’m just late at announcing them. Please meet:
UNDERCOVER HERO, colt, 9.2hh bay, GCh. Simply Heroic {B} x The Cover Girl {S} (x created)
This fellow is a 3/4 to SW/SP Ch. Undercover Girl, one of his mother’s most successful offspring. We’ll see how it works out for him, but for the right offer, I might agree to sell him.
*THE COVER GIRL will be sent to visit Take Me Away next.
NEWYORKNEWYORK, filly, 10.1hh liver chestnut, ICh. Stressed x Uptown Girl (x created)
Dad’s babies have yet to run, and mom is even more of a mystery. But this gal is BIG and pretty, and she now has a cute name. We’ll see if she can live up to this!
*UPTOWN GIRL has been leased out for 2016.
[color=blue]7 colts | [color=red]5 fillies | 2 stillborn | 19 foals left
Three new babies have arrived in the last few days, all boys. They’re not playing fairly this year! Poor girls need to step up their game if they want to catch up.
MISTER E. MANN, colt, 9.1hh dark bay, NCh. Mr. Prospective {B} x Slew Copy (x created)
I’m kind of excited to see how this boy turns out, although I’ll admit he’s a bit of a gamble. Dad did well as a 3YO, but then sort of petered out. Mom didn’t get much of a chance to prove herself, starting as a 5YO over hurdles. I’m hoping she was bred to be a 2YO/3YO flat superstar, ha. I guess we’ll have a better idea soon enough - her 2YO by As You Wish, AS SLEW PROMISE, will hit the tracks this spring.
*SLEW COPY is currently up for lease, but if there aren’t any takers soon, I’m sure I can find her a handsome boyfriend.
JERICHO, colt, 8.2hh chestnut, NCh. Dark Demand x Je Suis Prest (x created)
Interesting mix - I like the looks of dad, but this is his first crop. And mom was a winner, though she earned some high SFs while having placeitis. This is mom’s 3rd foal, and 3rd colt. 2YO brother, IMPRIMIS (x King David) hits the tracks this year, though it will probably be later on.
*JE SUIS PREST is scheduled to visit Smart Strike.
SLAPSTICK, colt, 8.2hh dark grey, NCh. Slip In The Mud x That’s So Funny (x created)
What a gorgeous little colt! Dad needs no introduction - he was quite the 4YO, and who knows what he might have done at 2 or 3 if he had been given a chance. Mom matured later, but was a consistant multi-winner who holds a speed record. This is her first foal. I’m a bit iffy on the name, but it was the first to come to mind from this cross.
*THAT’S SO FUNNY is scheduled to visit V is for Victory.
[color=blue]10 colts | [color=red]5 fillies | 2 stillborn | 16 foals left
Love the names Jericho and Slapstick.
Four new babies have arrived in the last week, and wouldn’t you know it, all boys! They now outnumber the girls nearly 3:1, but that’s ok, because at least they’re all alive & well.
VIVE LE ROI, colt, 9.2hh brown, ICh. Long Live The King x Bravodora (x created)
This boy is bred to be a SC star, but we’ll see how he does on the flat as a 2YO and take it from there. Dad did best over hurdles, but was no slouch on the flat, either. Mom was a stakes winning SCer. He is her first foal.
*BRAVODORA has been bred to Doodles, in hopes of another SC baby.
OBJECTINMOTION, colt, 10.0hh light bay, Ch. Turn n’Burn {S} x Fizzix (x Seabiscuit {S})
This boy was bred to be a 3/4 sibling to MSW GCh. Torrid, so we’re glad he arrived safe and sound and HUGE! He is the second foal from his dam.
*FIZZIX is hopefully visiting Street Wise for a 3/4 to MSP Ch. Symphony of Love.
DISPATCHER, colt, 9.0hh brown, Ch. Mr. Townsend {S} x Whirl Me Away (x created)
This foal was technically bred by Final Furlong, and both mom & the in-utero baby came to the farm a couple months ago thanks to the Color War prizes. Mom never won a race, but also only had a very brief (7 starts) career at 6YO, in which she never placed less than 4th place. Her first foal is a 2YO, so I’m curious to see how he does. Dad has earned a silver ranking from his efforts in the breeding shed. So we’ll see how this boy turns out.
*WHIRL ME AWAY is on her way to visit Simply Heroic.
PONTE VECCHIO, colt, 9.2hh grey, ICh. Unabridged x Oh So Sharp {S} (x Dr. Time {B})
Named after one of the most famous historical bridges, located in Florence, Italy. Dad is a new sire, but did well on the track, and his half brother, Chicago’s Demon, is the winner of the Gr.1 Caufield Guineas. This boy might stand a real chance when he gets older, and I’m super excited to find out.
*OH SO SHARP is on her way to visit What’s Your Point, in hopes of mimicing the Point Given/Sweet Escapes cross that produced the lovely SW filly, That’s One, who really knows how to burn up the track.
[color=blue]14 colts | [color=red]5 fillies | 2 stillborn | 13 foals left
Nice looking foals
Good luck with Objectinmotion. Torrid was fantastic on the track!
And also, I LOVE Ponte Vecchio in Florence. Florence is absolutely gorgeous - one of my favorite cities in the world.
I absolutely love Ponte Vecchio’s name! I hope he does well for you on the track.
Thanks for the compliments, guys.
And now, a filly! Hooray.
DEMURELY, filly, 8.3hh dark grey, ICh. Highland Magic {G} x Grama’s Prize (x created)
This pretty little lady is the first for her multi-winner, multi-speed record holding (3!!) dam. And her sire needs no introduction, having produced the famed Spock, among other credentials. I cannot WAIT to see how this girl turns out!
*GRAMA’S PRIZE is on her way to her date with Spock.
[color=blue]14 colts | [color=red]6 fillies | 2 stillborn | 12 foals left
Very apt name, she seems like quite a lady already
Another colt…
ROCKEFELLER, colt, 9.0hh dark bay, Rock of Gibraltar x Flying Feline (x created)
The name seemed like a fitting combination of mom & dad’s names. This handsome fellow is the first foal from his dam, a multi-winning steeplechaser who earned some decent speed factors in her career. Her sire has yet to have a foal hit the track, as his first crop was born last year. So only time will tell what this guy is really made of, but for now, he’s got a handsome name to match his handsome face.
*FLYING FELINE is on her way to her date with Gilded Saint for a steeplechase baby.
[color=blue]15 colts | [color=red]6 fillies | 2 stillborn | 11 foals left
It’s been quite a busy couple of weeks in our foaling barn. We welcomed 6 new babies, and sadly lost the 7th.
We lost our colt, NCh. Call To War x Sunday Living {S} (x Sunday Silence {S}), a pedigree I was really looking forward to. SUNDAY LIVING has been shipped to Australia & bred to Express Yourself.
Ladies first:
TEVIOT SQUARE, filly, 8.2hh bay, Octagonal x Danzatore {B} (x Danzig {S})
This baby is a total gamble, since dad doesn’t have any babies on the track yet, though mom has produced several winners and a stakes-placed gelding son so far. This pretty little lady is named after a dance that requires 4 couples - 8 people in total.
*DANZATORE has been bred to Akhetnaten, in an attempt to mimic the Lucky Cigar x Danzig cross that produced the MSW stallion, Sleipnir.
Well, that was a short list. On to the colts:
RUSSIAN ROULETTE, colt, 8.2hh strawberry roan, FFCh. High Chances {B} x Wag the Dog (x created)
I’m glad to have such a striking son of the so-far-successful new sire, High Chances. Mom’s first foal is a 2YO filly by Nightfight who should hit the tracks soon. As a runner, mom was a multi-winner who earned several high speed factors, though her record pales in comparison to his sire’s astounding record.
*WAG THE DOG has been bred to Sleipnir.
GROTTE DE CUSSAC, colt, 9.1hh dark bay, ICh. Doodles x Rodeo Cowgirl (x Omaha {S})
Dad is a new sire from created lines, and mom’s first foal is a barely raced 3YO. Mom was a multi-winner who earned several high speed factors, but her biggest attribute is her pedigree & family ties. Dad, though lacking the pedigree, has plenty of proven talent. This colt is named after one of the French caves where prehistoric cave paintings have been discovered.
*RODEO COWGIRL has been bred to Long Live The King, in the name of the Bold Ruler x Omaha cross that produced MSW NCh. Western Star.
FOOLPROOF, colt, 10.1hh bay, FFCh. Foolhardy {S} x Highland Treasure (x Highland Laird {S})
What’s not to love about a Foolhardy baby, really? And combine that with a Laird daughter, and you’re sure to have quite the cocktail of genes. Dad seems to be producing early maturers, and mom did best as a 2 & 3YO, so I’m hoping this fellow will be quite the 2YO. Standing over 10hh already, that doesn’t seem unrealistic.
*HIGHAND TREASURE has been bred to What’s Debatable, for a 3/4 to MSW NCh. Such A Treasure.
MOSTRO, colt, 10.0hh dark grey, ICh. Spock x Alwuhush {B} (x Alydar {S})
This boy looks a lot like his famous sire, with less white. We’re just hoping he runs half as well; if he does, he will surely live up to his name. Mom has produced a stakes-placed gelding son and several winners so far, but she’s from good producing lines. Her name means “monster” in Arabic, so we kept the theme going with this baby’s name. Mostro means “monster” in Italian.
*ALWUHUSH has been bred to Ring Of Fire for a 3/4 sibling to GCh. Mauna Loa.
The final foal will get a post of his own, because my computer is being difficult at the moment.
[color=blue]20 colts | [color=red]6 fillies | 3 stillborn | 4 foals left
Congrats on the HC colt!
Gilded Saint was looking forwaed to her visit! Nice babies!
Thanks, guys.
And finally, the MOST ANTICIPATED foal of the season, in a post of his very own:
unnamed, colt, 10.0hh dark grey, ICh. Spock x ICh. Twilight Embers {B} (x Irish River {S})
The excitement surrounding this colt can be summarized in a single phrase: HOTY x HOTY. Dad is easily recognizable to anyone who has been in the game even a short while, claiming 5 Eclipse awards (including 2012 Horse of the Year) and setting 6 speed records, in addition to his major G1 wins during his career. However, mom was no slouch on the track, either. During her career, she earned 3 Eclipse awards (including 2008 Horse of the Year) and set 8 speed records, in addition to winning several major G1 races and beating some big-name stallions on the track.
Obviously, with parents like these, this boy has a lot to live up to. He doesn’t have a name yet because I wanted something really special for him. If you can think of anything suitable, I would really appreciate suggestions.
*TWILIGHT EMBERS has been bred to War Chant for a 3/4 to MSW Ch. Evensong.
Cute foals!
Is the River Styxx taken. or Still Smokin’ , Step It Up , Smokinupthetrack, i dont know just some suggestions.
White Hot Metal
Just a suggestion
Two more colts have arrived, and by two of my favorite stallions.
Now the colts outnumber the fillies by more than 3:1. What a crazy year!
RAHNDEZVOUS, colt, 9.1hh strawberry roan, Rahy {S} x Springwalker (x created)
Rahy for a sire equals love, especially given his seeming power to produce combined with his tragically short career in the breeding shed. Rahndezvous’ only 1/2 sibling to race is 3YO stakes-placed(G3) FLIGHT OF SPRING (x Major’s Flight), the filly that placed 8th in the Kentucky Derby & 6th in the Preakness. The dam is unraced, so this is all we have to go on for now. Still, I am pretty excited to see how this fellow turns out.
*SPRINGWALKER has been bred to Dark Continent.
OLYMPIC TORCH, colt, 10.0hh chestnut, GCh. Worth My While {S} x Olympic Gold (x created)
Dad is plenty famous, and needs no introduction. Tragically, his time in the breeding shed was also cut short, so we are extra thankful to have this colt arrive safe & sound. This is the first foal from the multi-winning dam, so only time will tell how she can produce. This colt’s name is both a tribute to his dam’s name, and also a reference to keeping the spirit/tradition of his sire going.
*OLYMPIC GOLD has been bred to Dark Demand.
[color=blue]22 colts | [color=red]7 fillies | 3 stillborn | 2 foals left
The final 2 foals have arrived safe & sound, and what do you know - both colts!
HOLY WATER, colt, 10.1hh dark bay, Silver Charm x Meadowlight {B} (x created)
His only 1/2 sibling to run won his first - and only - race so far, and his sire’s first crop are only yearlings. Neither mom nor dad raced. This makes this boy a bit of a gamble, but he sure is cute!
*MEADOWLIGHT has been bred to the freshman sire, Joyeux Oiseau.
D’VOUR, colt, 9.1hh black, ICh. Take Me Away x D’licious {B} (x created)
This is his sire’s first crop, but dad was quite the runner who more than earned his right to stand at stud, carrying on the legacy of HIS famous sire, Cigar. Mom never raced, but has already produced a multi-winner in her 4YO son. There is definitely potential here.
*D’LICIOUS has been bred to Dark Continent.
And so our season concludes with a grand total of 24 colts and only 7 fillies.
We lost 3 other foals - 2 colts and a filly - but are thankful to say that all our mares survived the season and have been rebred for 2016 foals.
We have also added a couple of new mares to our lineup for 2016, and next year looks just as promising as this year’s crop did.
Thanks for tuning in!
