Feature: Race Entries

I just noticed the horse entry page now also shows their location, that’s neat! If in the future the page will also have filters to filter on location, surface, F/M only (so expanding on the sorting from A-Z) it’ll be a breeze to find good races for a horse.

When viewing a specific race to enter, would it be possible to sort by horses already at that specific track like in the old app?

I noticed this

Seems the filter isn’t correct, claiming race but it says I’ve only got 7 horses eligible (I’d have heaps)

The claiming filter is based on horses who are eligible for sale (e.g. have raced 3 times since purchase / birth).

I think what I was trying to say was it should be showing me roughly 120 horses (4yr + F) yet I’m only getting 7

Gotcha. Yes, it’s only showing them as qualified for claimers when they have exactly 3 races, not 3+. :person_facepalming:

This should be fixed.

Shanthi, could I make a feature request on the Race Entry page? It would be helpful to have a search feature there so that I could search for a particular horse without having to know what level it’s at and/or go scrolling through the pages for it.

It’s already on the to-do list.

Agree. It’s like a guessing game at the moment, where is that horse:flushed_face:

I’m trying to think of the simplest way for Shanthi to display what horse is eligible. Personally I like to see every horse available for that race all together, example -

If it’s a 4yr old+ NW3 race, I’d have all horses 4yr old & upwards from maidens up to NW3 showing.

Maybe there’s a check box once that opens to filter further if required? Uncheck the maidens, uncheck the NW1 etc etc.

Just throwing up ideas

Old site I always tried to forward program my horses (from their individual page) either as they are ready to race or straight after their previous run, then I’ll fill in the gaps as the race day fields came up.

I’m loving all the tweaks in the new site thus far Shanthi!

So the problem with that is the performance. Your stable has over 400 horses who are 4yo+. So I had to filter the horses in some way, I opted for qualification because IMO it makes sense to aim for the horses who are most qualified for a race when entering. I’m certainly open to other ways of showing the horses, but filtering / pagination of some sort will always be involved.

FYI you can see the qualification of the horse on the info page (I’ll add this to the entries list as well, when I get a chance). So you know if they’ll be on the NW3 tab, the Maiden tab, etc.

I love how it’s divided by qualifications and especially the added stakes level. Maybe I just don’t have as many horses but it makes it so much easier for me to see who to enter. I also love that when I click on a horse it shows up the info right on the screen.

Don’t I know it

I keep the oldies and try to down grade them as them get older to claimers etc but need to be more ruthless with retirements.

Once the new site is fully functioning I’ll be having a purge as at the moment I don’t even know where half the stable are :joy:

I’ll be fine once the future entries from the individual horse page is back, I tend to look at them each and forward enter from there.

Future entries are back? You can schedule up to 5 entries in the future per horse, on the horse’s own page.

Now I look like a complete idiot.

I’d seen this, then for the life of me couldn’t find it (thought I saw I’d removed to iron out gremlins) then just took 5 mins to find it again

For the future - it would be awesome to have filters in there - location / distance / surface.

Also on the to-do list. Basically filters will be everywhere, but I want to get the base functionality of everything in place.

You can force distance / surface filters by setting them in the horse’s race options (runs on dirt/turf, and min/max distance). Obviously it’s not as specific as saying “I want an 8f NW2 allowance in England”, but it gets you closer.

Throwing in I’m in the camp of wishing horses weren’t grouped by level, as sometimes I have a NW2 who I think could go stakes, but at a glance I might think they’re NW3 but one of those wins was a maiden so then I’m just clicking around trying to hunt them down. I think a tab for “already at this track” would be more helpful, but that’s one person’s preference.

Following on from Shelbie, could this column have a filter too? It would solve Shelbie’s question above (somewhat) and that way you could just scroll alphabetically to the track.

Having an “at the track tab” would be cool though.

I did some entries through the Race Schedule page for Saturday’s race today and the server was happy and fast and I just have to say that I’m super impressed with the way it’s set up in the new app vs the old one!

The way horses and their qualifications are shown is just a massive improvement over the dropdown list of the old app. I already find it easier to select the horse I want for the race and filters aren’t even in place yet! I love that you can also easily visit the horse’s page to gather a little more info easily from the entry screen.

I’m in the camp of not minding the division by race qualifications, but I can imagine having more horses makes it a bit of a puzzle. I think the filters or the ‘already at location’ tab as Shelbie suggested will really drive home the usability of this part of the new app as proximity is one of the main drivers for me personally when entering horses close to the race date.

I was struggling with entering the last few weeks with the changes, the server giving out and the way energy levels were behaving (still feel like that one is not like it used to be, but we’ll get used to it). It just took a good while to get entries in there, but today it was so much faster than usual! It’s really cool to see it all come together and playing the game with these new structures in place.
