WOOP! The first foal of the year arrived on January 2nd. This time of year is so fun and exciting. Can’t believe it was a whole year ago that we were doing this last. Anyway, introducing…
[color=blue]Sails the Night(WCh. Nightfight X NCh. Set the Sails)
This should be a nice colt to have around the barn. Nightfight had a huge preference for dirt while Set the Sails did well on both with a slight preferance for the dirt. He’s standing around 9.2h right now so not a shrimp by any means. I also found it cool that on his pedigree the family tree went back a whole 5 generations, on his dams side anyway! Well, not all of them were actual “horses” but it was neat to see.
[color=blue]First Devil - (ICh. Devil His Due X Run Lady Run)
Momma is still unproven with her 2yo filly, Wizardly Lady, running this year. First Devil got his name because he was the first foal to arrive from Devil His Due’s first foal crop. We’re excited to see that he didn’t pop out uber tiny standing a decent 9.1h at birth. We’re excited to see how Dev fairs as a sire here at CDS. Nice looking colt anyway!
[color=blue]Thoth - (WCh. As You Wish X Goddess Of Luck §)
We thought it would be fun to cross a consistant producer with the son of a super consistant producer with a granddam to boot. We went with an egyptian god this time with the name. Thoth is mainly associated with the heart, the arts of magic, the system of writing, the development of science, and the judgment of the dead. Fitting. Goddess will be having a visit with Spock next month for an uber yummy baby.
[color=blue]Smokin Devil - (ICh. Devil His Due X WCh. Smokin’)
A rather unproven pair in the breeding shed but both are very proven racers. I really doubt this breeding can go too bad, right?! Should be a fast bugger since both parents really liked short distances with Smokin’ putting in some decent wins in the longer races as well. Should be a little dirt devil as well…lol. We are sending Smokin’ to Highland Magic this year for a Sire/BM Sire sibling to Spock.
Haha! Me too…I was pretty disappointed to see that Goddesses 2yo last year went unraced so hopfully we’ll get to make up some lost time.

Really great looking black colt standing 9.0h. He’s half to 3 SW and 1 MSW. We can’t wait to see how As You Wish’s first foal crop does this year!!
Well we made a promise to ourselves that we weren’t going to make another post till we had a filly to introduce…we got one!

8.3h dapple grey colt. First foal of a stakes placed Secretariat mare and out of gold ranked Wonders Miracle. We’re hoping Holy Bull has some good genes to throw to his foals. We thought this wildcard foal would be fun.
[color=red]Raviani(WCh. Strike It Rich X Maria’s Choice)
9.2h chestnut filly. First foal of a 17.3h unraced mare. We thought it would be fun to breed this mare to a stud of equal size and see what we could come up with. Should be a decently sized mare. We hope her legs don’t get her confused on the track.
[color=red]Lucky Heart(GCh. My Lucky Day (S) X Ch. Hard On The Heart)
Though her dam wasn’t a wiz on the track she had the breeding of a freight train so we tried to add to it with My Lucky Day. Lucky has 2 RDC granddams (Miss Hayday and Heartsong) and 2 CDR Grandsires (Lucky Cigar (by CIGAR/CDR)) and Easy Goer (by ALYDAR/CDS)) with My Lucky Day being silver rated to boot. WOO! Hope this little girl will be ready to hit the track in a couple of years.
We now have another little guy to introduce and we have been waiting on him for three years!
[color=blue]Threefold(GCh. Steal Your Heart X GCh. Making Magic)
9.0h Bay colt
This pretty boy is the result of a third time try to Steal Your Heart with this mare. Technically her third foal, but her first live one! Magic seems to be in another world paying so much attention to her little guy. She has really had it rough, but has really perked up with her arrival. I couldn’t think of a better name to keep the magic theme going. Making Magic will be visiting My Lucky Day for a 2015 foal.
Phew made it to the barn just in time to watch Street Skipper deliver her baby girl this morning.

It took a few hard pushes to get this big girl out but all is well now with filly and mom resting together in the foaling stall. We are so proud of all these huge foals Nightfight is throwing! We are hoping this is a sign of a good 2 yo crop next year…given that they dont pitter out as 3yo’s. We are sending Street Skipper over to Vaucluse for a 2015 Strike It Rich foal.
WOO! Our hearts (no pun intended) haven’t stopped racing yet…

8.3h Bay Filly
This little girl not only has drool worthy lines but they are proven as well. Her Dam is Gold Rated with 4 Gold Rated Grandparents and her lines trace back to 6 RDC/CDR horses including: Secret Of Love (I - This is new!YAY!), Second Chance (B/I), Cross Roads (I/C), Heart’s Blood (I/C), Secretariat (I), and Bold Ruler (I).
With that being said she is also 3/4 sibling to WCh. As You Wish.
On a side note I didn’t realize that Secret Of Love has been upgraded to CDR stallion! He also has gold ranking as a broodmare sire! I’ll be sure to pay a visit to his resting site tonight and bury him a carrot and tell him about his new grand baby.
CDS had a busy night last night with 3 mares foaling…unfortunatly we lost one.

This big girl will be a fun one to get to know. Her dam is full sister to Platinum ranked NCh. Atlatis so we’re hoping though she wasn’t as good on the track hopefully she inherited some of those lovely breeding genes. Her name is in honor of Phil for groundhog day.
Next up is [color=red]Point n’Fight(WCh. Nightfight X Point Blank (B))

This breeding was a shot in the dark but hey hopefully we discovered a great one!
And lastly is the [color=red]Unnamed filly out silver ranked Grey Allusion and by As You Wish. The filly just wasn’t able to make it after her dam accidently stepped on her while we were tending to the other two mares. Luckily the mare is doing okay so we’ll just breed her to As You wish again. We have a special place for the little girl by her grandfather.

When looking back through our breedings for this year we were super happy we had this one to Irish River after learning about his retirement. She is half to 4 SW including BC winner Stellar Love.

We were super psyched this boy turned out so healthy! He is half to MSW’s NCh. Crusader and Ch. Raw War along with SP 2yo Fast Fool and 6 other winners.
For the bittersweet part Runaround has come to the end of her breeding career at the ripe old age of 20! She is being retired to enjoy the rest of her life here at CDS eating grass and maybe baby sitting some of the youngsters. She had a full and eventful career as a broodmare giving birth to 14 foals and obtaining the Silver breed ranking with her last 3 foals yet to race. Her foals averaged over 300k on the track with 1 of them a multi-millionaire. She also has 2 daughters who have retired to the breeding shed and also have high silver rankings along with one other who is bronze ranked. Cheers to Runaround on a long and prosperous career!
