Zenyatta, absolute perfection.

Had to tape the BC races today because I was working among other things, and I just got done watching them.
All I can say is…wow. Everyone ran great today, especially Zenyatta. I loved this filly before, especially after her
amazing win in the Ladies’ Classic, but oh my God. Her run today in the classic was amazing, and even that word
doesn’t seem enough to cover it. I think they had it right when they called this filly perfection. What I would give
to have a foal out of her…hahaha

I was just amazed-- I had a competition with my bf and wasn’t rooting for her, at least not 100% (I chose Summer Bird, of all horses) and I was still cheering her on when I saw her start to get closer.  She is an amazing filly.  If I am correct, there will be no 6 yr old season for this girl, which is sad, cuz NOW I would love to see how Rachel holds up against her, even on another track.

Now, I’m going to take a chance here and say that she will be bred to one of the top stallions.  I’m actually hoping they decide to breed her to Medaglia d’Oro, Rachel’s poppa.  You stay away from inbreeding and gives a nice mixing of some nice older bloodlines (Northern Dancer, Mr.Prospector, Damascus, etc).  But I’m just playing here…really love to see if she can produce herself or close to it

I’m just amazed  ;D

I thought it was tremendous. I was rooting for her in this race (as well as Quality Road), but pretty much because I wanted to see her go out undefeated. My friend, who doesn’t follow horse racing, was excited when she found out Zenyatta was the only female. We were totally screaming when she made her move. I’m interested to see how HOTY turns out now.

I was there. The experience was totally sublime.

For starters, parking was impossible and the grandstand was absolutely jam packed. Hilariously the front emptied out as people went to the paddock, but once the horses walked out onto the track people started crowding in, hollering and shouting and cheering and waving signs. Trevor announced her and we all went wild.

Quality Road freaked us the hell out, though, and Zenyatta was acting up way more than usual, which terrified me and the friends I met up with over there. And when the gates opened and she not only came out last but was looking everywhere and running rather awkwardly? Terrified, absolutely terrified.

Then she went along the rail coming out of the far turn and then split horses and Trevor shouted that she’d swung to the outside and OH. MY. GOD. I forgot to take a picture of the horses coming to the finish line because OH. MY. GOD. SHE BLEW BY THEM AND KEPT GOING. One of my friends burst into tears and screamed that she was HOY hands down. Everyone was shouting and clapping and hollering and whooping and it was just un-be-lieve-able.

I feel so honored to be able to watch her run twice now. She really is something else.

Yeah I was watching them load her and she was balking really badly, and then when everything
went down with Quality Road and she had to be loaded again, I was nervous she wasn’t going to
pull through. That filly is absolutely unstoppable, and her and Mike are a great team!

Does anyone know why Quality Road freaked out??? I was curious…it was scary and I’ve never seen an experienced racehorse suddenly freak in the gate like that.

Shirozora:  Lucky duck to be there!  And I don’t blame you for missing the pic-- it was such a big moment, I’m sure a lot people who meant to catch a shot were caught up in the moment.  But still, you got to see her-- that’s good enough   I’m jealous!

From what I’ve heard Quality Road can always be a little balky going
into the gate. Add that to the tension/pressure of it all, it didn’t really
surprise me. Now, he being as stubborn as he was did, but him balking
badly didn’t. I don’t know, I think there may have been a lot of factors
that played into it.

Like fiona said Quality Road has always been a jerk about getting into the gate. Yesterday he was just flat our refusing and the blind fold was a very bad idea. Kudos to the assistant starter for grabbing him as he came flying out of the gate and holding on until someone could get the blindfold off.

That was the scariest part about the whole ordeal. If that guy hadn’t held on to him there was a good chance he would have crashed and killed himself. Very, very scary  :frowning:
