Will anyone have first year studs in 2029?

I’m going to be having twenty or so new girls joining broodmare band and would love to cross them with hot off the track studs if anyone has new boys that are qualified!

Death Eater will run a final time in early January then retire to stud.

I’m trying. Just can’t seem to secure those last few wins -

All have 1 or 2 more wins to make it, heaps lined up on 4 wins too. It’s tough to qualify.

I’ve retired a handful this year who fell 1 win short too :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

That’s rough. Sometimes I wish we could lower the stud requirements by 1 win, because I feel like that happens to a lot of horses. It would be nice to have a few more stud options to prevent inbreeding over time. Good luck to your horses, hopefully they can pull off that last win!

I also have two needing 1 more SW. Just waiting for the right race.

It is tough meeting qualifications. I’ve retired a couple boys who would’ve made good studs but they fell short and I tried everything. Putting them in allowances to build their confidence, switching jockeys/equipment/track. Nothing seemed to work.

I think it would be great if we had a couple ways for colts to qualify for stud. I think needing the G1 requirements should stay but I would say even 5 wins is plenty if they also still have X amount of stakes placings in total. Our stallion count keeps going down and the broodmare count keeps going up

Maybe we could have it where you need 7 SW (including 1 G1W) and 10 SP (including 2 G1P) like we have now but, if the horse doesn’t have 7 SW, for every SW under the 7, it has to have an additional 3SP (but only down to 5 SW).

Below is an example of what I’m suggesting:-
7 SW (1G1W) + 10 SP (2G1P) or
6 SW (1G1W) + 13 SP (2 G1P) or
5 SW (1G1W) + 16 SP (3 G1P)

There are 5 racehorses qualified but still running, so no idea if they’re heading to the shed next year or not: Death Eater (confirmed to stand 2029), Jebel Musa, Lombard Street, Plot Hole, and Melander Stevens (owned by an inactive owner so likely won’t retire).

I have two needing a final win, so they’ve just been training/waiting for an easy race. Anytime I see another horse entered who hasn’t raced in forever, I scratch. Not worth the attempt with studhood on the line. Obviously this means when these two run they’ll also not have raced in forever, but I feel it’s different if they can be available to everyone as a stallion. If they can score a win during the next breeding season, they’ll head straight to the shed.

Interesting thought. It’s the G1 wins that often have me tripped up. I have one boy who has the 7 SWs, but just not the G1W. Poor planning on my part, I suppose.

I’d like to see more non-Breeder Series races at the end of the year, since the season is pretty dead for stakes quality horses.

I’d also love more stakes in November and December, and more SC stakes races in particular between September and December. Goes pretty dry.

Jebel Musa should retire at the end of the year. Lombard Street continues to run well, so plan to start him at the start of next year and go by ear from there.

Also…if we could just rig a race to get Mayor of Maybe, Moor of Venice, Chickenhawk, and Palmyra their last wins – that’d be great.

If chickenhawk gets stud qualified I definitely have mares for him!!!
