Last year, I leased abroodmare. I bred her, and she recently returned to her owner, but she hasn’t foaled. The foal’s mine, as far as I know. However, she’s currently consigned to an auction, which ends before her foaling date.
Who will get the foal? Will it still belong to me, or will it go to the person who purchases her at the auction?
Ugh. I think in this scenario, baby will end up going with her when she’s sold at auction, unless baby’s already born. File a bug about it and I can try and figure out a sensible way to handle that.
I have the exact same scenario about to happen next week and figured it was pre-programmed that I’d get the foal (leased the mare, bred the foal, lease ended, mare still in foal but consigned to an auction). So if she doesn’t foal by the time she sells, I’ll do the same.
In theory, the code has been updated to only transfer foal with mare if the mare’s owner also owns the foal (in a lease, unborn foals are bred/owned by the leasee, not the owner).
Let me know if your babies end up with the wrong owners, though, and I’ll transfer them around.
Is there any way to note this on the mare’s page? Something like “Mare is in foal to Stallion, Due on Jan 25 2015, Owner: Such and Such” Or is this an uncommon enough occurrence not to be worth it?
Either owner comments, or when the horse is being consigned, the comments for bidding. (Which is what I did when I sold mares with and without their 2015 foals this month.)
