Okay, so the 2014 breeding season is about 6 months off, but I’m already considering matches for the girls I’m retiring next year:

I was hoping for any inputs on studs for them. I may go with just unproven studs for some of them, but I’d like proven studs for Baltic Bird and Gonewiththeindians.
I got two and it’s for [color=red]Baltic Bird. How about [color=blue]Government Secret or [color=blue]Gimme A Shot? I have two nice black-type sprinters by [color=blue]Government Secret (well, one’s a Stillwater lease), and [color=blue]Gimme A Shot’s a silver-ranked stud. Heck, either one of them might work well with [color=red]Gonewiththeindians, too.
If I chose Government Secret, I could name his and Birdie’s Foal “A Little Birdie Told Me So” XDD
The majority of these are computer generated pedigrees so you don’t have to worry about in breeding just yet. Most look to be late bloomers and could use a little early speed( 2 and 3 years olds) infused into them. For this I suggest that you breed to Highland Magic. He’ll get you early speed on the dirt. If you want to go grass or steeplechase you might consider Hope to Succeed.

Townsend Miracle might do well with a Whirlaway son.
The others, I’d say breed to the best you can afford to. How you define “the best” is up to you. It could be breed rankings for older sires, track record (# of SW, earnings, title) for younger sires, or just based on the fact that you like so-and-so’s bloodlines. Most of the stallions, especially those coming in under the new breeding restrictions, are solid runners so you can’t go too wrong.
I know for Gonewiththeindians I’d like a stallion who showed talent fairly early, as she appeared to be a dud until her 4yo year.
What I’m looking for is a stallion who did well on the mares’ preferred running surface, and for Baltic Bird and Bowdlerized add a little height. I love Highland lines, but I’m definitely not opposed to just breeding to a stallion who was excellent on the same type of surface as my mare.
Do you think Worth my While would cross well with Gonewiththeindians or Baltic Bird? Or High Chances? What about Crystal Rainbow?
Highland Magic is definitely one to consider. 
Whirlaway has no sons standing at stud. He does have a grandcolt, All Jazzed up, standing at stud.
I’m biased when I say HC is a good choice. I think he hit his prime a little late (5 and 6 was when he really shone, but his 4yo year was a good one). Most horses don’t favor a specific surface, but more distance. HC won about 50% of his lifetime starts on dirt and the other 50% on turf. Distance, however, he couldn’t go much more than 8.5 or 9 furlongs. I’d be interested to see him bred to a mare who favored endurance. Hopefully that cross would result in a nice solid classic pony.
Thus far, I’ve been pleased with Crystal Rainbow. I only have one son by him, but he’s been holding his own in 2yo races. His dam had run well too, though. Rainbow Quest is definitely a solid sire.
Worth My While looks up and coming; definitely promising. I’m partial to Highland Wizard, because you then get the one-two punch of Rogue and Worth.
