I found this topic from 10 years ago and thought it extremely interesting. I decided specifically to focus on the youngstock and 2yo auctions, as all horses from these auctions would have been unproven. What happened to the horses we were so excited to purchase? Well…
Not counting this year’s 2yo auction as that’s still fresh. Apparently I’ve sold the majority of my auction horses (only own 3 of the listed 30). But at least I bought most for just 1k! I’d be curious looking at older auctions or the Mixed/Select.
2020 2yo Auction
[color=red]Aggressive Honey - $1000. Still own/racing, and was MSP at 2 and 3 with a SW at 3. 4 for 14 with 181k banked.
[color=blue]Different Clover - $1000. Winless at 2 and sold, and just broke his maiden this past April. 1 for 15, still racing.
[color=red]Known Brick - $1000. Sold end of 2yo season and just broke her maiden this month with a switch to SC. 1 for 13, still racing.
[color=red]Minor Deer - $1000. Sold at 3, is now 2 for 14 with just under 30k earned. Still racing.
[color=red]Shy Lock - $1000. Was sold last September and has been inactive since August. 2 for 11, 34k.
[color=blue]Various Shore - $1000. Sold at 3, won 6/10 starts that year and is SP this year. 276k banked and 7 for 20.
2019 2yo Auction
[color=blue]Defiant Ember - $1000. Hit the board 5/6 times at 6, but sold in May of 3yo season. Inactive since October, but has won 3 of 18 and 100k.
[color=red]Lotus - $6000. Sold after a dismal 2yo season, but also went on to better things: Ch-titled, SW/MSP of 200k but inactive since November.
[color=red]Fire Opal - $1000. Unplaced at 2 and sold, but now champion-titled and a MSW of almost 440k, including a G1 this year.
[color=red]Rose Gold - $1000. Dismal 2yo season then sold. Now 4 for 24 with 107k earnings, still racing.
2018 2yo Auction
[color=red]Dixie Dance - $1000. Unplaced at 2, managed almost 50k at 3 before being sold. Has won 124k and is 5 for 28, still racing.
[color=blue]Hollywood Fire - $1000. Unplaced at 2, sold after unplaced 3yo debut. Has managed 185k and is 3 for 36, still racing.
[color=blue]Smoked Out - $1000. Unplaced at 2 but managed 116k at 3 before being sold. Is now MSP as a chaser with 303k in the bank, still racing.
2017 2yo Auction
[color=blue]Love the Rain - $8000. Unplaced at 2 and sold. Unplaced at 3 and retired. 8 starts and not a penny earned.
2020 Youngstock Auction
[color=red]Capture It - $1000. Sold as a yearling in 2021. Placed in maiden debut this year.
[color=red]Fear Nothing - $1000. Sold end of 2yo season, is 2 for 19 and in the Mixed Auction.
[color=red]Premium Ruby - $1000. Unplaced at 2 and sold, just bought back this year. Unplaced in 6 starts but hoping she’s a SC runner now that French Ruby’s foals have had longer to run.
[color=red]Flag Unfurling - $1000. Sold as a yearling in 2021. Inactive.
[color=blue]Iron Poetry - $1000. Still own. Is currently 2: 0-1-1 this year at 2.
[color=blue]Dark Materials - $1000. Sold as an unraced 2yo this year, unplaced in debut.
2019 Youngstock Auction
[color=red]Rainbowsnladybugs - $1000. Placed at 2 and sold, has won 2 of 9 starts and 57k.
[color=blue]Zero Gravity - $1000. Still own/racing, now SW/MSP of 272k. Currently prepping for Oz season.
2018 Youngstock Auction
[color=red]Blush Boutique - $1000. Sold at 3, has won 2 of 25 starts and 76k. Still racing.
[color=red]Rockette - $5500. Still own/racing, is 5 for 23 with 238k earnings, G1P. Just won an allowance this past Saturday.
[color=blue]Dagda - $6000. Winless at 2 and sold, now 2 for 22 with 59k earned. Still running.
[color=blue]French Quarter - $32,500. Sold unraced at 2, has won 2 of 8, 61k, and still running.
[color=blue]Downpour - $1000. Sold end of 2yo season, inactive since Nov 2020 and still winless.
2017 Youngstock Auction
[color=blue]Striking - $1000. Sold at 3, still racing with 73k earnings and is 3 for 23.
[color=blue]Drowning Lesson - $1000. Sold as an unraced 2yo, now MSP with 620k earnings and still running. Actually ran 2nd in the KY Derby.
[color=red]Vicious Circle - $1000. Sold as an unraced 2yo. 4 for 11 and 100k earned, but inactive since October.
[color=red]Exclusively - $1000. Sold at 3, 89k earnings and 2 for 33. In the Mixed Auction.
2015 Mixed Auction
[color=red]French Resistance - $1000. Won 2 more starts for us then retired to our broodmare band. Now silver-ranked, she has given us 2 SW’s (1 G1W), both daughters. Half to NCh. Franco Classico.
[color=red]Final Point - $1000. Won us about 100k during her career then sold as a broodmare. Now a broodmare at Desert Wind.
[color=red]Moonstorm - $1000. Winless in 15 starts with us, sold. Ended up in FF and raced until he was 10, winning 2 of 39 starts. Just retired last year.
[color=blue]Bandwagon - $1000. Only won 2 of 23 starts with us and was sold. Raced one more year then retired.
2016 Mixed Auction
[color=blue]Celebroch - $5000. Winless in 8 starts then sold. Was inactive for 4 years then retired. Won 4 of 27 starts.
[color=red]Jade Fox - $1000. Hit the board 6/8 times for us, sold. Currently a broodmare for Gant’s Farm.
[color=red]Magic Lable - $1000. Won us about 45k then was sold. FF broodmare - inactive since 2017.
[color=red]Witch’s Point - $1000. Won us 130k and was sold. Currently a broodmare for Suffolk Stables; inactive since 2020.
[color=blue]Macau - $1000. Won us about 37k and was sold. Raced another 2 years before being retired. Won 3 of 32 starts.
2017 Mixed Auction
[color=blue]Archaeopteryx - $4500. Won us 150k in 2 years and was sold. Never started again and retired with 3 wins from 18 starts.
[color=blue]Highland Devil - $1000. Won about 170k for us in about a year, then sold at 4. Now retired, he won 6 of 44 starts.
[color=blue]Anduril - $22,500. Won us 68k at 3 then sold, unplaced at 4 and retired.
2018 Mixed Auction
[color=red]The Fire Rose - $1000. Joined our broodmare band for 4 years and sold this year. Retained her yearling, 2yo, and 3yo. 3yo recently won and the 2yo is unstarted.
[color=red]Uninspired - $1000. Raced for another 2 years and won us 200k, and a ch-title. Now in our broodmare band.
2019 Mixed Auction
[color=blue]Pillage n’ Plunder - $1000. Campaigned for 2 years then sold. Has won 5 of 34 starts, still racing.
[color=red]Twist of Lime - $1000. Currently in our broodmare band, only started foal is a winner. Was half to another successful broodmare of ours, French Resistance. Both are half-sisters to MSW NCh. Classico Franco.
[color=blue]Top Me Off - $1000. Winless at 2 then sold, inactive since Sept. 2020. Winless in 15 tries.
[color=red]Holding Roses - $1000. Won 2 of 9 and 32k, sold at 4 and made 1 more start then was retired.
[color=blue]Johnny Storm - $60,500. Sold at 4, was SP and won 3 of 16 and 243k. Retired.
