When is late scary late? (foaling)

I have 3 foals late now…one was due on the 2nd…
Besides excited about the babes when should I be worried?? :frowning:  Really??? :stuck_out_tongue:

I think there’s a thread somewhere that says wait up to a month before you raise the alarm!!! lol… Can you hold on that long???..lol

Yep, at least a month.  I’ve got one that was due 1/2 as well.  Maiden mares tend to pop them out prematurely or hold onto them for forever.  The vet could have also been drunk when he gave you the date (the due date isn’t when it’s supposed to come out, it’s the vet’s best guess).  I wouldn’t worry about it.

Waiting still sucks. :wink:

Actually, in theory, the due date can be as much as 4 weeks off on the front end (so the baby comes 4 weeks early) or 6 weeks on the back end (6 weeks late). The extremes may mean a premie/late birth, but the foal does still exist. :slight_smile:

As long as the foals are healthy I don’t care if they’re late or early  ;D

I’ve got one who was due on the 15th (yesterday) yet my stable page has said for about a week or so now

5 Foals Still Due This Year (Next Due On 5/9/14)

Although when you go to the mares page it still shows her due on the 15th. So the little bugger must be playing games in there  8)
