Well I bought my horse! He’s such an awesome guy…he’s a 5yo 15.3 Chestnut Thoroughbred Gelding. He raced as a 3 and 4yo, but his record was something like 14-1-1-0 or something kind of crappy like that. His reg. name is Loafer (lol), but I call him Charlie. You can see a picture of him and his pedigree here: pedigreequery.com/loafer2
I rode him today and jumped him 3 feet, which is awesome for me because that’s the highest I’ve gone before…he’s so great. I was even trotting the jumps and he jumped them easily. We also jumped a barrel jump that was about 3’3 and almost 3 feet wide! YAY! I have no doubt that he could go higher, especially since we weren’t even cantering the jumps! Wow!
Haha I know that’s not a very nice name. It would’ve been funny if he became like a champion and was winning huge races and had a name like that…wow. I think Charlie’s much nicer Maybe I’ll show him under Cosmic Charlie or something…anybody have good ideas?
He definitely is a cutie. I absolutely love his blaze, it’s a really funny shape. I have to get some good pictures of him, that one’s a weird angle that’s on his pedigree, and he looks different now since he’s using different muscles and has gained a bit of weight. He’s a great guy.
hey congrats on your new horse, he has some nice lines. At least he won a race the best my horse did was 4th but he was in maiden special weights up at Saratoga and Belmont. IF you wanna see my horse, Gator Growl’s, pedigree click on the link below pedigreequery.com/gator+growl
Agreed, very very cute horse Sounds like he’s really talented too if he’s only been off the track a year and already doing that well. I like Northern Dancer lines
Yeah, he was underweight when my instructor first got him back in January or so, but he looks much better now. He’s a bit spazzy at times, but hey, he’s a 5yo TB…haha. He loves to jump though! He has so far been to 2 horse shows, but he hasn’t competed in any yet. I’m hoping to take him to a “fun” show at the end of October, no judging or anything, it’s like a mini event that anybody can ride in and no entry fees or anything. I think that would be a good experience for him (and me too, I haven’t done much showing).
Yeah, every show I took my (still spazzy) 8yo TB mare to was a fun show for us, even if it actually cost $300 or so to get there and was actually a pretty major show. But she did well when we just rode for fun and didn’t care what the outcome was (we were highly embarrassing in a Hunter Equitation class, mostly b/c I can’t equitate and she can’t counter-canter , but we only entered to possibly be able to jump the kickass 3’ equitation/jumper-y course).
Showing to compete is all fine and good, but I like it a lot more when you just treat it like a fun new thing to try out, and then at the end of the day, see how well you did compared to your last attempt, so the only real “competition” is your past self.
Haha, I sometimes need to learn that lesson. I’m known to be kinda explosive at shows. I get all uptight and just have to do well and I end up spazzing on everyone around me. Especialy when certain half blind mares pretend theyve never seen a bridge before cough cough
But it really is alot more fun to just relax and laugh at yourself when your crazy half blind horse forgets she used to be a 3-day eventer and pretends to not how how to sidepass in the trail class or canter in pleasure. XD
But good luck with your pretty TB Sarah! I hope he gives you many good years!
I know…I’m trying to get my brother to come and take some pics of him while I’m riding him, I want to see him also, I want a video too so I can watch him go. I’ll post them as soon as I get em!!
