Up and coming 2YO's for 2018 :)

Time for the topic! Last year’s: Up and coming 2YO’s for 2017. And I wrote:

Of these two, Luminoso is now starting his new life at The Grey Stable (he certainly belongs!) and we wish him well, while Aguirre became a Grade 1 winner, giving us hopes that he will become a stud one day.

This year will be very special for us, as the first homebreds will start running! ;D There is five of them, one colt will be sold, the other ones are fillies. Of these, only one was born in winter:

Habla con Ella (FFCh. TakeMeToHollywood x Por Amor Al Arte). She is very special to us, because her dam is one of the two horses we got at the beginning. However, she’s her dam’s first foal, so we have no idea what she might be on the track. Being born in February, she will probably start racing early.

Other interesting yearlings were bred by other stables or Final Furlong, and we got them at the auctions or sales:

Vera Cruz (NCh. Conflagration x Ch. Sailor’s Girl by Seabiscuit). Her sire has no racing foals, and her damsire is a legend. Her second dam GCh. Dark Princess was a multi-millionaire.

Sin Infierno (ICh. V is for Victory x Easy Union). His dam is our first gold ranked broodmare; she produced a multiple stakes winning filly. I also really like his sire.

Raudo y Veloz (NCh. Player  x Ch. Townsend Glory by Lonesome Glory). Our recent purchase from the select auction.

Lapis Lazuli (NCh. Cryptic Ballad x Ch. Blu Highland by Highland Rogue). This beautiful blue roan colt has a gold ranked dam and second dam. Sire was a steeplechaser, but I hope that he will also have some talent for flat races.

Lointaine (Octagonal x GCh. Little Lass by Crimson Lad). She’s one of Octagonal’s last foals, and she has a good, rare damline.

Out of my 51, am excited about:

Sand Piper (Almost Precious X Signs in the Sand) - bred to be a turf monster and first foal from her dam, who won G1s on the dirt and turf.

Fight or Flight (Major’s Flight X Save Our Souls) - bred to be a chaser, so it make take awhile to get him rolling, dams first foal

Sirena (High on Love X Privilage) - bred on the High on Love/Rapunzel cross

Shut out the Light (Nightfight X Shizzle Fit) - first foal from MSW dam

Among others…

We currently have 26 2yos to race next year, a mix of homebreds and bought in. We’ve previously only had one homebred in each of the last two seasons so this will be our first big(ish) batch of our own babies. Possible highlights include:

Blodeuwedd Carrowmore x Rosebud (G) (homebred). From her sire’s first crop. Half-sister to ICh What’s Your Point and GCh Giant’s Start.

Bourneville TakeMeToHollywood x GCh Mississippi. First foal. Dam is a daughter of gold-ranked Irish River and American Black.

Bramble Queen LongLiveTheKing x Blackberry (homebred). First foal. Sire’s first crop are running very well. Dam only ran three times at 5 and 6 years but won all her races so we’re interested to see how she goes.

Last Hero Nightfight x Heroic Lass (S) (homebred). Last foal. Half-brother to stud GCh Simply Heroic. On the small side so may be a late starter.

Manifesto What’s Debatable x On The Run (G). Half-brother to GCh Caledonian.

Preservation Hall All Jazzed Up x Crowd Pleaser (G). Half-brother to NCh King of Gondor.

Prohibition AP Indy x CH Rum Runner. First foal for SW, MSP dam, from his sire’s final crop.

Radagast Highland Magic x Question Authority (G). Half-brother to MSW NCh Quarren (stud qualified), NCh Bright Gold and CH Even star.

Vulpecula Nightfight x Just A Fox (G) (homebred). Half brother to GCh Sionnach, Ch Kingston Coup and Ch Just Like Ice.

Witchfinder General V is for Victory x GCh Salem. First foal for MSW dam.

We currently have 36 2yos due to start racing next year. With that many, it is hard to single out any of them for special mention.

That said, we will be interested to see how the first crop from one of our newer stallions, GCh. Tottenham Hotspur, does. He was the first stallion that we retired who had raced exclusively for us. He won a total of 9 races, 8 of which were SW, including 4 G1W, and more than $4m in purse money. He also won the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Turf.

We will also see the first foals out of some broodmares who had raced successfully for us before being retired to stud, all sired by GCh. Tottenham Hotspur:-
Bill Nicholson, a b.c. out of Nicci. Nicci won 6 races (including 1 SW) and $685k+ in earnings for us.
Come On You Spurs, a ch.f. out of Commem. Commem won 3 races (including 1 SW) and $280k+ in earnings for us.
Spur Mountain, a ch.f. out of Hymettus. Hymettus won 6 races and $281k+ in earnings for us.
Spurs Park Lane, a b.f. out of Bonnie Blue Flag. Bonnie Blue Flag won 5 races and $517k+ in earnings for us.
White Hart Lane, a b.f. out of Minaret. Minaret won 5 races (including 2 SW, one of which was a G1W) and $1,704k+ in earnings for us. She also won the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf. With Breeders’ Cup winners on both sides of her pedigree, White Hart Lane will have a lot to live up to.

Only have one yearling coming up to 2 this year, a colt.  Been tossing names in my head for him but finally like one that, surprise, isn’t actually taken, lol.

KINGPIN
black colt, with a stripe, snip, RF stocking, RH sock, and LH stocking
by Alley Cat out of my silver mare Lady In Red.

King is half to Etched in Gold and the mare Lady Hollywood, both Multiple Stakes winners in their own rights.  King is also from, I beleive, the second to last crop by Alley Cat.  I always liked Alley Cat, so I’m hoping to do well with this boy and get him studified.  If not, then he will retire and have a home for life with me.

Just the highlights. We’ve got 53(!) yearlings.

Act the Fool is by Foolhardy out of Ask DNA. 1/2 sister to GCh. Ask Directions and Ch. Ask for the Moon.

Classy Broad is by Broad Account. She is the first foal of GCh. Lonesome Lover. a Lonesome Glory mare.

Fortnight is by High Chances. She is out of NCh. Spinning Hill. She is 1/2 to NCh. Star Spun.

Got the Scoop is by Bellagio out of GCh. In the Know. She is 1/2 to Ch. Basalt and Ch. In the Loop.

Hit the Road Jack is by Highland Laird and out of Ch. Final Tour. He is 1/2 to GCh. Queen of Sheba, Ch. African Adventure, Ch. Rahmbunctious, and 3/4s to Ch. Tickled Pink.

Levinas is by Take Me Away and Go For Glory. He’s 1/2 to ICh. Demand the Best, WCh. Toast of the Town, Ch. Initforthelonghaul, and Ch. Thank Goodness.

Out of Time is by Clockstopper and the first foal out of Out of Control. She’s from the legendary Playing With Fire dam line.

Pride and Passion is by Bellagio and out of GCh. Clendon Park. She’s 1/2 to GCh. Busker.

Reconnaissance is by Invasor out of Out of Tune. She’s 1/2 to NCh. Reprise and Ch. Repudiate.

have 32 yearlings  with 3 I am particularly excited about:

  • Fool on the Hill FFCh. Foolhardy x Ch. Mary Hill (A P Indy)Mary Hill’s racing siblings were all winners and most were SWs or SP
  • White Tie Affair NCh. Formal Occasion x While We’re Waitng (G). Combines worth and Highland bloodlines so we hope for something special from this chap. all his siblings are either SP or SW. Half to GCh Secert Wishes
  • Matelot GCh. Highland Laird x GCh. Smooth Sailing (Seabiscuit)Hoping this one will be a real sprinter.
[]
    [/
    :m][/list:u]

We have 27 yearlings and only 9 are fillies, haha. It’ll be a colt year! The kids we’re most excited about:

Armed Debate (ICh. Stressed (B) x Highland Debate (B), by ICh. Highland Pride (S). I’m a fan of Stressed and have yet to own a bad runner by him. Highland Debate is a half-sister to GCh. Set In Her Ways § – dam of 3 MSW’s – GCh. Major’s Flight and WCh’s What’s Debatable.

Highland Bishop (FFCh. High Chances (G) x Ch. While I’m Lucky, by GCh. Worth My While (G)). Gorgeously bred, Highland Bishop is already standing at 16hh and is While I’m Lucky’s oldest foal. While I’m Lucky is a half-sister to GCh. Lucky Danzig.

Lillyofthevalley (ICh. Stressed x Ch. My Lady’s Princess, ICh. Worth the Wait). Another Stressed foal! My Lady’s Princess is a half-sister to NCh. Government Secret, GCh. Ladylove (G) – dam of 2 MSW’s – and Lady Barton (S) who has also produced a MSW. This her 2nd foal.

And of course I’ll be watching Joyeux Oiseau’s first crop like a hawk (no pun intended given his name) as they make their racing debut next year. I only own 3 yearlings by him:

Gyrfalcon (out of Ch. Keep Quiet, by WCh. What’s Debatable (S). Keep Quiet is a half-sister to 3 MSW’s. This is her oldest foal.

Honeybird (out of Bet the Stars). Both parents are creates, she’s her dam’s oldest foal, and Bet the Stars hit the board twice in 10 tries. I just hope she can run remotely straight, haha.

Silver Swallow (out of Ch. Cool Your Jets). Probably the one I’m most excited about between the 3; her dam hit the board 22 of 30 times without a single injury. Plus we’re gray and well…gray. <3

Last year I thought I had it rough going in with 29 2YOs, fearing how difficult it might be to manage them all as my (by far) biggest ever yearling batch.  This year I have managed to breed & acquire a whopping 49.  Oh boy.  There are a few I may try to sell early into the year, but overall, most are ones I want to try to hang onto.  Here are the highlights:

ALL LIT UP, by Magic Cross {S} (my favorite active stud - all 3 of his get I’ve run have been MSW, including my now stud-qualified Ducati) out of Light The Match {G} (x Lucky Cigar).  She’s 1/2 to MSW GCh. Heat Things Up, MSW GCh. Townsend Fire, SW Ch. Light of my Life, and SW Ch. River of Fire.

BRAVE BALLAD, by The Fighting Fifty {B} out of GCh. Valid Ballad (created).  He’s the first foal from his Gr.1 winning dam, who set a whopping 6 speed records.

CALLA LILY, by Candidate {G} out of Sovereign Song {S} (created).  First, she’s already within her expected height range.  Second, she’s 1/2 to SW Sovereign Glory and SW Brianza…and she’s only the third foal from her dam.

CRISSCROSS, by Magic Cross {S} out of Got Your Heart (x Slew O’Scots).  Love that sire!  Oldest foal of the dam, but her pedigree is immaculate, and she holds two speed records.

EL CARI

We’ve got 68 2yos in 2018, but here are the highlights…

AFFECTING (GCh. Highland Laird x Ch. Make A Difference) - second foal from this dam, older brother (by Foolhardy) is a MSW at 2.

BREAK FREE (A.P. Indy x Ch. Break The Spell) - first foal from this MSP mare

BRIGHTSIDEOFLIFE (Holy Bull x Ch. Polly Anna) - first foal from this S mare

CLOWNING AROUND (FFCh. Foolhardy x Ch. Laugh Out Loud) - first foal from this MSW mare

CONSIDER YOURSELF (Giant’s Causeway x NCh. You Belong) - last foal from this gold-ranked mare

DELIAN (ICh. Count Me In x GCh. Carbon Copy) - half-brother to MSWs ICh. Sixth Day, Ch. Corunda, and GCh. Apprintice

DON’T PASS GO (ICh. V is for Victory x Ch. Passin’ Sandi) - first foal from this MSW mare

EARTHLY CITY (ICh. Witness x NCh. Sacred Hill) - half-sister to MSWs GCh. City Upon A Hill and Ch. Nairobi

FEEL THE FIRE (Point Given x Playing With Fire) - last foal from this platinum-ranked mare

HIGHLAND SKYE (GCh. Highland Laird x Faith Hill) - half-brother to MSWs WCh. King David and Ch. Out of Tune, plus a bunch of other stakes level ponies

LOKI BRILLIANCE (WCh. All Jazzed Up x Fortuna Major) - half-brother to SW Drum Major

METALKPRETTYONEDAY (Octagonal x Ch. Subject to Learn) - first foal from this MSW mare

RING OF DEATH (ICh. Ring of Fire x ICh. Priceless) - half-brother to SWs Millennium Star and Reckless Faerie

RISING GLORY (Invasor x ICh. Celtic Glory) - half-brother to SWs Perfect Princess and Legendary Glory

SNOW KING (NCh. Robin Hood x GCh. Snowflake) - first foal from this MSW mare

SOLARI (ICh. Highland Magic x NCh. Nightshade) - half-sister to MSW GCh. Nighttime Strider

I can’t believe yet another year is almost past and we are once again gathering our yearlings out of the paddock for their 2yo evaluations.  We have been keeping a watchful eye over quite a few of our yearlings throughout the year and some have definitely been scoping out above the rest.  With sixty-seven turning 2yo next year there will be some keeps and cuts with these girls and guys being those who will comprise the elite of our future racing string…we hope.

Our rookie stallion, NCh. Carrowmore, will have his first crop start next year and we’re hoping he inherited the producing ability of his sire, Irish River.

In no particular order:

Zoana (A.P Indy X Ch. Zabara)
She has a sterling silver pedigree and a quad of big names enhancing her 16.1h frame.  First racing 2yo half brother, Zimbardo, is a multiple winner and stakes placer.

Star Blast (WCh. As You Wish X Morning Star)
Another sterling pedigree and the last foal from this mare.  The shoes he’s stepping into are following in the hoof-steps of 3 Stake Winners, 3 Multiple Stake Winners, a Millionaire and Multi-Millionaire.

Lost Wish (WCh. As You Wish X Lost Memories)
Another solid silver linage dotted with gold on both sides.  At 16.3H she is one of only 2 yearlings in the game to stand this tall (Both fillies!)and still an inch under her projected height range of 17H-18H.  She’s half to 3 winners and 2 multi stakes winners.

Macgregor 16.1H (WCh. As You Wish X Ch. Highland Lady)
He is the last foal from this Highland Raven§ mare who tragically died last year.  We hope he lives up to his linage. He’s half to all winners and 2 multi stake winners with one being a millionaire.  He was bred for an intentional double Secretariat/Bold Ruler hit from both sides.  I wouldn’t mind this guy making it to the stud shed and keeping these lines available.

Bellagio’s Girl (NCh. Bellagio X NCh. Set The Sails)
Decent size at 15.2H she is the fifth foal from this Platinum rated mare and also half to two Multi-stake winner Multi-millionaires.  Her dam line is incredible with staple broodmares That’s Debateable (RDC) and Foolish Question(RDC) and her own dam paving a solid way into blueblood territory.  Hope she does well…

Blazing Apples (ICh. Canidate X Bold n’Gold)
We are glad to have this Canidate filly with his win in the Sire of the Year category last year. At 15.2H she is a good sized coming 2yo and holds a decent dam line as well being half to all winners and many stake quality siblings.

Kearney (NCh. Carrowmore X NCh. Cross Your Heart)
This boy is the end of a legacy with big name after big name spotting his pedigree.  Another stud hopeful he is following in the hoof-prints of successful brother WCh. As You Wish.  He is carrying the weight of Irish River, Cross Roads, and The Black not to mention grand dams Dark Miss and Heart’s Blood and Great Grand Dam, the legendary Miss Hayday.  At 15.0H we don’t feel he’s going to mature into an early racer but should have longevity on the track.

Dochas (NCh. Carrowmore X Ch. Hollywood Hopes) She is the eleventh foal from this fabulous dam.  We are hoping that Carrowmore has inherited the same producing ability of his sire and that it crosses well with this dams already proven breeding record.  Dochas is half to 7 Stake Winners and 2 Multi-stake winners, even her 2yo half sister is successfully racing at stake level.

Listoghil (NCh. Carrowmore X Goddess Of Luck) All of his rated pedigree is Gold and comes from a long line of successful siblings including 4 SW and 4 MSW.

Foolbetty (FFCh. Foolhardy X Ch. Opulent) One of the best sire choices for the first foal from this MSW dam.

Indy’s Causeway (Giant’s Causeway X Indy’s Lady) I’ve been impressed with Giant Causeway so far in his career and thought a cross with an A.P Indy mare would be interesting.  He’s half to all winners and 2 MSW including stud qualified and hall of fame inductee NCh. Sponsored.

Laird’s Last Jett (GCh. Highland Laird X Jettison) He is of Highland Laird’s last crop and out of a decent broodmare to boot being half to many stake quality siblinings.

Wizkin (NCh. Highland Wizard X WCh. Smokin’) She is from the last foal crop of Highland Wizard and out of super successful Platinum mare Smokin’.  She’s half to 2 MSW including Canadian Triple Tiara winner ICh. Fightin’ The Smoke.

Don’t Trip (WCh. Nightfight X NCh. Trippi Flowers)
Already 16.0H and second foal from MSW Millionaire dam.  Being that he’s by Nightfight is a bonus.

Winning Legacy (WCh. Nightfight X Winning Class)
Last foal from one of our original dams.  Full sibling to MSW Multi-millionaire Ch. Batista and NCh. Winning Secret and NCh. Cutlass.  This dams average foal earnings are almost a million.  I hope he has that extra something because I wouldn’t mind having a stallion carry on her traits.

Jet Fighter (WCh. Nightfight X WCh. Highland Jet)
Not much to say about this guy that you can’t already see. Highland Jet has been producing pretty well herself so we can’t wait to see how he turns out.

What’s Your Name (WCh. Nightfight X Married To Quick) Nice sized coming 2yo at 16.1H and double gold bred to boot. Half to multiple stakes quality siblings including NCh. Eternal Life.

Snowy Night (WCh. Nightfight X Snowcapped) Out of a silver rated mare who has 3 stake winners under her belt.  With the added prowess of Nightfight we think he’ll fair just fine.

Don’t Seattle (NCh. Seattle Sorcerer X Ch. Loveem’nrun)
Second foal from SW producing Secret Of Love dam.

Spock Jr. (ICh. Spock X WCh. Gilttogo)
He is the first foal from our 2X Eclipse Award winning dam and out of 5X Eclipse Award winning sire.  Woop!

I’ve got 22 must keeps from 91 yearlings… Will try and bump it up to 30, maybe 40. But at least 50 will be sold next year as 2YOs.

Here are the one’s I am keeping for sure…

Adventurous - FFCh. Foolhardy x NCh. Mysterious Miss - first foal of dam who won 11 stakes including a Grade One. Nice mix of Rogue and Worth lines.
Aragorn - WCh. Strider x GCh. Pleasant Lady - first foal of dam who won stakes at 2YO including a Grade One.
Baobab - FFCh. Foolhardy x Dark Love - dam Gold-rated, this colt is half to four MSW and two SW.
Berserker - FFCh. High Chances x GCh. While It Lasts - second foal of dam (first is unraced 2YO) who is MSW including Grade One.
Calloway - WCh. All Jazzed Up x WCh. Easy Decision - first foal of a monster mare who had a wonderful, long career on the track.
Captivating - WCh. Express Yourself x NCh. Mark My Word - dam Silver-rated and a Breeders’ Cup winner, has a MSW and SP from two raced foals.
[b]C

Totally missed the existence of this thread and am uber bored, so!

Have 12 yearlings in my second homebred crop (24 next year, and 39 the year after that, D:) so I might as well just list them all.

Age of Mythology - Sleipnir-Egyptian Jazz, by Jazz It Up. She’s part of Sleipnir’s second crop, I believe. Her dam ran well enough for me but more importantly, she’s a half-sister to the Lucky Cigar stallion Akhetnaten, which is why I bred her to Sleipnir. Mythology will be her dam’s first runner.

Eckert - High On Love-Party For One, by Lonesome Glory. One of my four High On Love babies (have another yearling and two weanlings) out of a mare who hasn’t done much yet; she has one foal of racing age and I haven’t quite figured her out yet. I hope he takes after his dad, =D

Indygo Symphony - A.P. Indy-Sonatina, by Government Secret. I was hoping he was a she but it was not to be. Indy’s a solid sire and Sonatina was a stakes winner for me. He’ll probably turn out to be a decent sprinter/miler.

Light Up The Sky - High On Love-Light Up Your Life, by Cigar. She might just be my best bred yearling, especially with silver-ranked Hollywood Memories as the granddam and RDC/platinum-ranked Hollywood Queen as the great-granddamn. As it is I have no idea what her racing aptitude will be but I’m expecting great things from her.

Nyota Uhura - Oscillation-Smooth Operator, by Easy Goer. A Color Wars yearling with a very nice stakes-producing dam. The stakes winner is also by a Seattle Slew son, so here’s hoping Uhura here turns out nicely.

Paradise Remains - Crystal Rainbow-Devil’s Test. Devil’s first foal. Momma was a pretty awesome black-type runner and Crystal Rainbow is a solid sire siring lots of class. I expect her to be a late- developing long-winded runner so won’t do too much with her early on.

Reichenbach Fall - Seattle Sorcerer-Fairy Wish, by Highland Wizard. He’s the product of an experiment - the great Highland Sorceress shows up 2s x 3d (I think that’s the correct way) in the pedigree. Reichenbach is from Seattle Sorcerer’s second last crop. Wish was not a remarkable runner but her dam and granddam are both gold-ranked. Fingers crossed he turns out swimmingly, though the family seems to not produce good colts like they do fillies.

Song of Songs - Long Live The King-DreaminofAngels. Can’t remember why I set up this pairing. Dreamin is an average producer but King has done pretty well for himself. I hope she swings her sire’s way.

Southern Silk Road - Double Cross-Golden Silk. Mare only ran from ages 5-6 and won twice. I have no idea what to expect from this colt, lol

[b]S

I’m also inbreeding to Highland Sorceress! The 2018 foal out of Pandora’s Box will be 3x3 inbred to her, through NCh. Silver Wizard. Very curious about the result

\o/

Well you can watch Reichenbach’s career to get an idea of how yours might turn out xD

This is my first year of having a hearty supply of babies, versus 5 or 6 in previous crops. I have a lot of wildcards, but in looking through what I have, there’s two or three that I’m looking forward to running.

Still The One - by WCh. Nightfight out of Pale Moon (created)
I’m looking forward to this one mainly for Nightfight’s influence. Pale Moon is a 2.5 Bronze rating, but her 2yo filly is just starting to come into her own, and I’m excited to see this colt emulate her.

Tell Me Why - by NCh. Bellagio out of Just For You (created)
Just For You is silver ranked and one of my best mares, but she died after foaling a colt the year after this filly. I bought her late in life to pad the quality of my stock, so I’m looking forward to seeing what her two contributions have to offer.

La Reina Poderosa - by GCh. Simply Heroic out of Swamp Duck, by Turbo Tide
Swamp Duck makes good babies, so I assume this one will follow in her siblings’ steps. They seem to have good 2yo seasons, tail off at 3, then make a resurgence at 4. No stakes winners yet, but I’m happy with consistency. That’s where the money’s at.
