Twins

I just noticed that FF hasn’t had any twin births since 2010.  Is the script running for them?

The chance of having a still born is 1:300 while the chance of having a twin is 1:2000.  If the scripts were running their possibility of “chance” the same wouldn’t we have a set of twins or two every year?  The percentage of dead foals is about 6% every year which is Turning out to be more of a 1:17 percent chance of having a still born.

-1500 foals every year

  • 90 deaths
***1:300 would be about 5 deaths if it would running with even accuracy.
Actual: Instead we have 90 deaths which is about 6% which is 6:100 or roughly 1:17.

So what I’m wondering is if the scripts were running the same wouldn’t we have some twins?

It does seem a tad disproportionate this year. I’ve lost four foals and one mare. But I’m not overly concerned - this was after I had 44 foals due over the year. Would be nice to have twins though!

There is no “script” for twins/deaths/etc. When you breed a mare, it picks random numbers for each of those things. If the random numbers come up with the correct number, that event happens.

And I’ve already said PHP does weird things with random numbers sometimes, thus no twins in a while (though we did have a disproportionately high number of them for a while) and a lot of stillbirths this year.

Hmm, yeah I remembered you saying something about the random numbers being weird, I just wasn’t sure if the “twin factor” was even working.

I just didn’t know what else to call it since I don’t know much about coding in general.  But good to know.
