I have two problems:
A)My horse Glorattore sp? does not show up on the training page. Why is this?
B)My other horse Western Star keeps on dumping, bolting, or otherwise misbehaving. How do you get this to stop happening?
Any help would be great. Please help soon, as this is getting flustrating.
One more thing has anyone else had this happen or is this a newbie mistake.
First thing you need to do is check your horses fitness and energy levels. Fitness you can run at any level but if the energy is below “C” they need to rest. That means no training or racing. Western Star is showing signs of breaking down as he’s been raced to many times and entering him twice more in the next week is a definite no-no. That is unless you want him to break down. Typically thoroughbreds race every 3 to 5 weeks.I also see your 3 year old is entered the same way.
Why your horse doesn’t show up on the training side is something that Shanthi has to answer. This is not an instant gratification game. Remember that Shanthi is trying to emulate all the aspects of racing and waiting is one of them.
Hope this helps a little.
When a horse starts acting up a lot that tells me they need to go HOME, not just sit around the racetrack stable, nothing helps better or faster than a couple weeks or more at home. I send mine home every 3-4 races, depending on how close together they’ve been racing. I space races anywhere from 10 days to a month, depending on the horse and mostly, on how much attention I’ve been paying to entering them but a good timing seems to be 2 weeks between races, otherwise they get too tired. The only exception would be that sometimes, right after returning from home, mine will act up because they have SO MUCH energy. If they haven’t been home recently for a long rest, I’d guess that yours need to go home. Of course for my particular style of training, that’s what works for me, but I’ve talked with others with much different styles who have been doing well and also send their home in that same kind of schedule.
Smylie and jade are both right and are giving good advice, i race my horses about every 2 -3 weeks and am careful not to overtrain them either. Unlike jade Ionly send my horses “home” to rest about twice a year as it is far too expensive to do it more often due to having my home stable in England. Most of them are still ok so far and i think this is because they are raced very lightly.
It is more important I think to have good energy levels on your horses, fitness seems not to be so critical as i have occasionally raced with fitness levels of D and C and not done badly. racing with low energy is a recipe for disaster.
Glorratore looks as though she’ll make a decent racer if you look after her (she beat my lease mare Ch. Hastings lady on wednesday and lady is a very useful mare on her day) and later a worthy brood mare. Try not to be impatient though as this is a game for the long term and sucess is all the sweeter for having had to work at it.
Good Luck

One of my horses, Velociraptor, got a cut on his foot during workouts a couple of days ago. When I look at the My Stables page, it notes this and recommends rest. How long do I rest him for and how will I know when it is healed (the workout report didn’t say how bad the cut was)? I want to know whether to leave him at Woodbine (where he is currently located) or bring him back to the Stables. If this is going to be a long term injury (a month or more) I’ll bring him home, however, if it is a minor injury and he should be OK in a few days (or a week), I’ll leave him at Woodbine. He seems to do his best at Woodbine so I don’t want to have to pay to ship him home and then pay to ship him back if he has healed within a few days.
Any thoughts/ideas/suggestions would be greatfully welcomed.
I forgot to mention that when I send horses home I don’t move them again until their energy is A and usually not until a week or more past that to get Natural Energy up as well(NE seems to be more important as far as race performances go). Maybe I’m over protective but I haven’t had very many injuries it seems like and nothing major so it seems to be working. Also, maybe I’m over doing it (that’s not to say I don’t push my horses when they’re healthy via workouts) even little injuries like a cut I’ll give 2 weeks off or more, I really have NO IDEA if this is realistic because it is just a cut, but I can afford to rest my horses frequently and like to give more rest when in doubt.
A little over a month ago my colt Sleipnir came back limping after a race, I gave him a little over a month off…raced him yesterday in a GII and he came in 2nd.
A cut I imagine would be signifigantly less severe than limping so I’d give 2 weeks off then go back to what you were doing with him. Just my 2 cents.
