To Let The Jockey Decide or No?

Hiya,

I’ve been pondering my use of “Let the Jockey Decide” which is my default on every horse. I was wondering the strategy other folks use with their jockeys? Specific instructions or freedom? Also, can a horse get tired of its jockey and want a different one? I have several horses that have hit the dud stage of a once promising career, and I’m wondering what role the instructions and jockey play in that.

I personally pick a jockey for each horse for workouts and keep it for races until it says the comments say something along the lines of ‘don’t get along at all’ then I pick a different one. During workouts, if a comment is made saying ‘ …likes running on the lead’ then I set their race instructions to run on the lead, if it changes during workouts I adjust running instructions. If a horse becomes a bit of a dud then I change things up, distance, surface, workouts, once I’ve exhausted all of that then I retire.

Same as Nicole. Only exception is I do have a few MSW’s who get “dislikes/hates equipment” but said equipment seems to work really well with them (because MSW) so I force them to deal with it. Otherwise, I keep changing per jockey comments.
