Our final foal for the year made her appearance.
WEN’ UYABALEKA
ICh. Calle de Oro (B) x Tshotsholoza (B) - Ch. Moonopoly (B)
10h grey filly
Tshotsholoza is a South African working song which is considered by some to be South Africa’s unofficial national anthem. When my youngest was in High School, his Chorus group did this song and he did the bass partm so it has long been a favorite song of mine. I have tried to give her foals names to do with the song and this foals name is part of the song (it means ‘You are running away’)
Wen’s siblings include 3yo colt Stimela Siphume SA (on this train from South Africa) and yearling colt Kulezo Ntaba (from those mountains), all bred by us and 4yo filly Gone Forward.(Tshotsholoza means Go forward) and 2yo filly Chain Gang (the song was first sung as a miners chain gang song).
Sadly, the mother had a tough time during the delivery (not surprising, considering the baby’s size) and did not survive. If there is any consolation, there aren’t too many other words to the song, so I would have had difficulty naming any other foals she might have produced.
Final Total for this year:-
89 out of 89 - 49 colts, 40 fillies, 4 stillborn, 1 deceased mare, 5 retired mares
