Is there much news or media hype around this boy re Breeders’ Cup Classic on Saturday? I hope he does well. How is the weather looking? I heard it dumped over their for about 14hrs causing the track to close. Will it dry out much over the next couple of days?
This stallion is awesome, top rated older turf miler in the world. Looks a treat and hopefully things will go right for him and he’ll be VERY hard to beat, first dirt start and all…
Haven’t heard anything regarding Starcraft, the buzz around here is for Saint Liam, but I haven’t been keeping up on it that much. It rained a couple of inches at Belmont Park Tuesday/Wednesday. The weather looks to be good until race day on Saturday. So, as far as the track condition, it should be fast/firm. They always do a pretty good job of taking care of the track, although the track tends to be lightning fast on big stakes days like this.
I’m with you Jas, Starcraft is a champ. But I don’t know much about the other horses and seeing as it is his first go on the dirt, who knows how he will go.
Closer to home, here is my early trifecta for the Melbourne Cup on Tuesday
1st Makybe Diva (should she run)
2nd Vinnie Roe
3rd Lachlan River
I’ll throw Leica Falcon in if The Diva doesn’t run
The one race I can’t wait to see is the BC Sprint. I love Lost In The Fog, it will be interesting to see how he does against older horses. I love his owner also. This guy is so funny, he’s older and gruff, he hates it when people offer to buy his horse. I think the highest offer he has gotten so far is $7 mil. Finally an owner that can’t be bought…well so far.
In all honesty, I would hate to see Makybe Diva go round in the Melbourne Cup. I think she can win, she’ll have her work cut out for her with 58kgs over 3200 though. I really rate Leica Falcon. I think he’s got what it takes - reminds me a bit of Makybe when she first won her cup.
Starcraft should be fine on a fast track even with the switch to dirt. He appears to be fine on the surface - turned out a really good run on sand in England and I think I saw some video footage of him charging down the straight in a trial on dirt.
Starcraft listed as 12-1 morning line. Hmm, nice value bet perhaps? Looks like a nice horse.
On a side note, after all the rain this week and a few weeks ago, the turf course may turn out to be soft or good on Saturday ( I would lean more towards good). Also, they took the races off the turf today at Belmont. That may give the European/foreign runners a nice edge on the turf course.
Well I guess he ain’t a dirt horse… Perfect ride, loomed up like he was going to do something, but didn’t kick. Big shame… Gotta feel sorry for his owner who splashed out the $800,000 to start him…
Yeah, still a very nice horse. Perhaps he didn’t like the distance also? Although he did win at 1 1/2 Miles on Turf. Well, like I said, definitely a nice horse anyway.
Yeah I think his AJC Derby win was a bit of a wierd race. Plus, it was against his own age group. He’s definately got claims to being the world’s best miler though. I think he’s far superior at a mile that 2000m and above. He was third in the Kelt and the Cox Plate too which demonstates maybe he was stretching in distance a little.
Don’t feel too sorry for the owner spending the money to run him. Was totally his own call. I think it would have made more sense to nom him to Mile or Turf though than the Classic. Nice run by St. Liam to most likely cinch the HOTY honors. It’ll be interesting to see Afleet Alex next week in the Cigar if they run him after all.
Yeah apparently they reckon he’s got HOTY on that run, well according to the race caller. American’s call their races funny… Didn’t enjoy the call at all. Hehehe…
I think Saint Liam is a lock for HOTY. Has 4 G1 wins this year including the BC Classic. Nice to see Bailey get a win also. You don’t like Tom Durkin’s race call? lol, i guess it is a lot different then how they call where u are. I kinda feel the same way you do about how races are called in Europe/Australia.
