I bought two 15yr old mares in the Mixed Auction, because of their good lines. Only to realise that I haven’t got a clue who to breed them too in order to cross well. Would prefer to stay away from Worth lines, and absolute maximum price $10,000
Dolphin’s Cry (Rainbow Quest x Five Rings - Man 'O’War). Probably would be looking for a turf stallion for her.
Dreaming of Home (Land Ho x Dream Maker)
As for Dolphin’s Cry, it might be interesting to breed her to NCh. In The Navy; he’s a turf specialist and so are his foals, which are also good on dirt. He even has two speed records on turf, and the foal would be 2x3 inbred to Man O’War.
For Dreaming of Home, I’d recommend my own stallion NCh. Al Mundhir. He was very versatile - won stakes on dirt, turf and steeplechase. Most of his foals are still immature as 2yo’s, but he has some stakes level 3yo’s. Al was unraced as a 2yo. I found two other horses with Almost Home and Land Ho as grandsires; Shrill Locket and Foxy Lady. Hard to say anything about the first, as he is bred and owned by Final Furlong, but he did finish in the money three times out of his four starts. And Foxy Lady was a decent 3yo.
Thanks Hilda. Based on your suggestion I’m going to actually put Dolphin to Demand the Best (another turfer, which is a 2x3 connection to Rainbow Quest, see what that turns out like.
