Stallion qualification rules

You must be able to answer yes to the following questions for your horse to retire to stud.

  • Is the colt at least 4 years old?
  • Has he won at least 7 stakes races of any grade?
  • Has he won at least 1 Grade 1 stakes race?
  • Has he placed in the top 3 in at least 10 stakes races of any grade?
  • Has he placed in the top 3 in at least 2 Grade 1 races?

If so, the code should give you the “Stallion” option when you edit his information.

Ty I’m going to copy this and save it!

I feel dumb for asking this, but does “any grade” include ungraded?

Yes, it does.

Thank you!

I would like to retire All That Appeal, he should be stallion qualified?? But haven

If it’s outside of the breeding season, I don’t think you can change a horse’s status to stallion. I believe it was something Shanthi set up to avoid you being taxed twice for the same horse. If he’s met the criteria, you should be able to change his status from 1st January.

Indeed. Taxes are irrelevant at the moment (but will arrive again eventually), but it’s setup so that you can’t retire a horse to stud outside of the (end of) the breeding season since you can’t breed him anyway.

Many thanks, he

Nice stallion, Joe! Congrats.

So I saw imagine said yes, but I didn’t see Shanthi agreeing with this? So I just wanted to clarify if ungraded counted? Thanks!

Yes, “any grade” means “is it a stakes race?”. Ungraded stakes races are still stakes races, so they count.

I’m so happy.

This makes my life so much easier!
