Smokey Glacken

Don’t know if any of you guys here have heard of this racing mare, Smokey Glacken. She is another horse of one of out BIG clients, like most of their horses, she’s gorgeous AND she can run!

Smokey Glacken is by the well known stallion Forestry, out of a Magesterial mare, Magesty’s Crown. Her mother did decently on the track, earning over $55,000 in 29 starts. Smokey is half to GI winner Smoke Glacken, winner of over $700,000 and the GI Hopeful Stakes as a 2yo and was the 1997 Eclipse Champion Sprinter. Smokey is also half to Capote’s Crown, winner of the Queen Of Song Stakes.

Smokey Glacken’s sire, Forestry is a GI winner in his own right and has produced stakes winning son’s and daughter’s, including millionare Discreet Cat. Forestry is also a hot sire now, remember that 2yo that went for $16 million. A yearling of his also was sold for $1.2 million, the Fasig-Tipton Yearlings Sales first seven figure horse since 1983.

Now that we’ve gotten through her pedigree we move on to Smokey herself, let’s just say that she has won 10 of her 19 starts, and has finished no worse than third in only three of her starts. She’s a multiple graded stakes winner and has earned over $650,000. Found a few articles on her in the bloodhorse;

Smokey has had one other start since the Distaff BC Handicap, the GII Vagrancy Handicap for fillies and mares. She challenged the eventual winner, Dubai Escapade, but faded into the stretch. Now, she is at the Milne’s for some ‘R & R’ before her next start. It is so neat having a horse of this caliber in the barn, all of the Moore’s horses are really nice, but other than Regal Sanction, none have done much, most haven’t raced yet.

According to Joan, I am ‘in charge’ of her. I’m hoping I’ll get a chance to get on her, she seems like a nice mare so far, apparently she’s tough, but you never know, some get tough at the track when their faced with the option, “do what I want, or I will beat you”.

Ah yes, figured since I had this post started and it is kind of on the subject, is there anyone in NJ/East PA that needs a job and would like to work at a rehabilitation/trauma center, we need some general staff, and we are looking for another rider, preferably who can help with riding the racehorses.

Thought I’d throw it out there…
