Self-Promises: Goals, Challenges, and Opportunities

OK, so my life is going through some minor upheaval (new job, horse swapping around, etc.), and I want to hold myself accountable for my goals…easiest way to do that, I’ve found, is to tell other people.

So, here goes:
Starting next week, I want to work on biking to/from my new job.  It’s 5.5mi one way, so that should be at least an hour of biking a day (probably more like 2, since I haven’t biked in ages).
Along the fitness lines, I want to start strength training, since the new job has (a few) exercise machines in-house, plus showers, so I don’t even have to pay for a gym membership (or drive anywhere, eliminating both excuses).
I need to shop for some good cookbooks so I can stop eating frozen pizza and spaghetti all the time.

In the equine aspect of my life…
By May 31, I want to decide what I’m going to do with my horse…sell her, breed her, etc.  This should be fairly simple once a couple of trainers get on her in mid-May.

Hopefully by the end of next week, I want to decide on the few horses I’m looking at to buy, as far as whether any of them are worth pursuing a vet check, trial, etc.

Which should mean, if I actually follow through with all of these plans, I should have a new horse, fun new job, be fitter, and eating healthier by the time summer rolls around.  Here’s hoping, anyway!

Anyone else have fitness/life challenges going on?

Good luck with your goals!

I don’t have any right now, but as soon as finals are over at the end of May, I am going to start running again.

Good luck, Shanthi! Especially with the getting-fitter ones… those are always (at least for me) the hardest to really get into a routine on.

My goal for this summer is to stand up to my boss, haha. It’s a dead-end job that pays only a few dollars above minimum wage and is only there to get me through college since I don’t make enough at the barn to pay tuition -and- horse expenses. My “real job” boss loves to control my life and I let her because, well, she’s scary. For a job this unimportant, it’s not worth the stress I go through trying to keep her happy. It’s time to call her out, which will result in either my resignation or seeing some serious change in this relationship… and the dynamics of the whole workplace, since she runs everyone. Basically, scary stuff, which is why I haven’t yet.

Good luck Shanthi! All great goals and starting a new job sometimes can be one of the best things for a fresh perspective!

For myself because of the price of gas… ridiculous in Canada as it’s currently $1.25 / litre (makes it about $4.73 / gallon) it’s going to be the biking to work as well shortly enough.

I’ve also signed up for a recreation soccer league with practice twice a week and games once a week, along with Dragonboat races, and taking financial training courses. Nice fun summer lined up
