Well one of my favourite mares Unbridled Delight has just had her first foal and sadly it was stillborn my fourth stillborn this year out of 15 broodmares. I’m feeling a bit sad about it as I was really looking forward to this foal. One more to go with a 1 in 3 chance of death if the rest are anything to go by.
I’m sorry for your loss(es). Losing one is bad enough let alone 4.
i feel for you i lost a total of 1/4 of my whole foal crop last year , i was devestated.
Sorry to hear that, It makes you not want to look when another foal is born incase it is already dead.
I’m so sorry We also lost a foal today, although we haven’t had nearly as bad luck as you. I’m glad your mare is doing ok and I hope next year goes smoother.
yes it does and i think thats why i took so long this past yr to actually breed them again and retire a couple more, so mine are not due til end of summer/fall , so i will end up with all this yrs crop ending up as being extremely young when they age. so far i have not lost any of the mares but it takes its toll on your budget when you add up all the fees and then lose so many (4/16) and the yr before i lost my last sunday silence foal since he was retired that yr. luckily a lot of the stallion owners if you let them know have a live foal guarantee and may help you out with another try. good luck heres keeping fingers crossed for everyone to have a healthier foaling season!!!
Oh this is really bad, so sorry to hear it. It’s really hard when you have a fairly small band of broodies and are losing such a large proportion. I’m really sad to hear about your Sunday silence foal, extra disappointing when you can’t re breed. I have lost a mare as well, during my first breeding season. it was her first foal too. and one of my mares has now lost 2 foals in consecutive years. Even worse all 3 of her foals who have been raced are winners and the only one of her foals I have that lived has just won his very first race by a good margin so I look like I may have lost some very good foals. My last mare to foal this year is late, so I’m expecting the worst with this one
well nothing we can do about it except hope next year things go better
will keep my fingers crossed for you
Me too. You’ve really had a some horrible luck dumped on you.
no wait i had my numbers wrong 1/4 of my crop would be 4 out of 16 , my mind wanders sometimes.lol. the other way would have been 1/3rd, i added two new mares this yr but they are not due til next year,. mine are all due around august so they will have extra time to grow and ill be looking to buy 2yos when the time comes. thank goodness for the auctions.
