Race Day 9/25/2017

Shanthi - Just an FYI.

There is a FF-owned horse entered in Race # 8 tomorrow whose status is Broodmare. The horse is:-

Don’t have time to do them all today, but at least I managed to get over half done.

Wins 14 x $250 = $3500
Places 2 x $100 = $200
Shows 8 x $50 = $400
Exacta (changing this from Quinella to Exacta, because a Quinella is the top 2 in either order and an exacta is the top two in exact order)  4 x $500 = $2000
Trifecta 6 x $1000 = $6000
Total: $12,100

TOTAL FOR SEPTEMBER SO FAR:  $59,850

Today’s Handicapping

Wins 14 x $250 = $3,500
Places 7 x $100 = $700
Shows 5 x $50 = $250
Quinellas 5 x $500 = $2,500
Trifectas 5 x $1000 = $5,000

Total $11,950

Total so far for September is $23,600 for the first 4 racedays using the my old system and $32,150 for the last 3 racedays using my (Chicago and North Oak Farms influenced) new system.

Even considering the extra time needed to work out my picks, it is very much worth it.

Had horses down in the wrong order a lot this time. Still can’t complain about the results, especially because I didn’t handicap all 50 races.

Wins: 13 x 250 = $3,250
Places: 2 x 100 = $200
Shows: 2 x 50 = $100
Quinellas: 1 x 500 = $500
Trifectas: 2 x 1000 = $2,000

Total: $6,050

Even though I had 5 Trifectas, I also had quite a few races where my picks finished 2-1-3 or 1-3-2 and 2 races where they finished 3-2-1. If there was a “bet” where you had to pick the first 3 home in any order, I would probably have had about 12 of them.

I find it amusing that you would say this, given that your horses’ earnings so far this year are $43,796,900 - the extra $5,000 or so per race day has to be chump change!  Now, if you’re talking about worth it in terms of excitement/satisfaction about getting more picks right, I definitely understand.  I just can’t imagine having as much money as you do, and being motivated to handicap based on the money.  I’m currently on a handicapping hiatus due to time constraints, but my favorite part of handicapping was that it made race days more exciting, going through each race result (increasing my suspense/anticipation for races my horses were actually in), and getting excited when I got quinellas and trifectas, or a bunch of wins in a row.

I’ve never really thought about it but suspect that you are right. I guess that it is the excitement. I probably make about as much in handicapping in a year as my horses earn in a week, but, the suspense, satisfaction and anticipation is what keeps drawing me to it. When I first started in FF and was struggling for money, handicapping was a good way to boost my Bank Balance. It just became a force of habit to do it each raceday, and now, to me, it is a part of the FF experience. I like to see how well I can predict the race results every day, and I like to see how I do in comparison to everybody else.

In the words of my 5yo, “HOLY COWY MOLY!”
You make $40m a year?  I can’t even fathom that amount.  Educate us!

I see you have, like, 100 racers.  How do you keep them all straight?  I get overwhelmed approaching 30!
