How do you guys even begin picking horses? Especially unstarted 2yos. I want to play along, but no idea where to begin.
Hmm my method for 2yo is maybe pick one who’s dam I recognise as being a good producer or if it’s bred by a stable that produces successful runners, if they’re all/mostly unraced - failing that pick something by Nightfight! I’d just say have a go - the more you do it the more you recognise horses that seem to be running well and then can handicap accordingly. At the moment you don’t lose money through doing it, all it costs is some time so it’s worth having a go to make a bit of extra money.
To be honest, I don’t really have the time or patience to go through the in-depth recent form so I just try and get a feel from the post parade. A lot of it was guess work to start with but as I said, the more you do the more you recognise the horses’ names coming up repeatedly and whether they ran well or not. And if I get really stuck with a big field you can always go for the most scientific way i.e. pick the one with the best name
