Should FF use the current date? (2014 instead of 2018)

So in writing the code for the beta, I’m doing a fair bit of date manipulation to shift everything to the correct (game vs. current) date.
It occurred to me that there’s no real reason that FF has to be in the future. Everything could just get shifted back 4 years so that 2018 is 2014, next year’s foals are born in 2015, etc. Everything would match real life.
Any thoughts one way or another? I don’t mind either way, but wondered if anyone felt strongly one way or another.
I voted yes because it would be cool to see ff world mirror real world. However, if the vote swings the other direction I wouldn’t have any problem with it.
I, too, voted yes as it would make it a little less confusing, especially for newcomers. However, like Holly, if it doesn’t happen, I won’t lose any sleep over it.
My brain would thank you if it got shifted to real time, but it hasn’t been so huge of an issue that I would demand it. Just…a little less confusing, which would be nice.
Had that happen to me too a couple of times. I’d just finished working on some FF entries, then proceeded to write a check to somebody. Just as I was about to seal the envelope with the check in it. I realized that I’d dated it 2018.
