I’m fine with retiring Take Me Away to stud as there aren’t any other Cigar sons at stud.
Mistico Cigano, though…there are 4 Secretariat sons at stud and 2 Secret of Love sons, so I think his bloodlines are pretty well represented. (There are no Spectacular Bid descendants at stud, which is the only reason I’d see to add him to the pool.)
I’m actually not sure why they’re still racing, the script should auto-retire them at age 7, I think (though I haven’t looked at it in at least a year since it only runs on New Year’s).
I would personally like to see Cigano retired along with Take Me Away. Cigano’s dam’s line and her producing ability interest me. I also really like the possibility of having a Spectacular Bid x Secretariat line cross to add to one half of the bloodlines.
I would love to see both of them go to stud. I would also like to see NCh Call To War who would qualify under the new stud qualifications and would be the only Man O’War son at stud.
My argument for allowing him to stand at stud is that one of the Secret of Love (Steal Your Heart) sons wouldn’t qualify for stud if he had been retired under the current qualifications where as Mistico Cigano would. Also Mistico has Spectacular Bid on his damn’s side and there are no Spectacular Bid sons standing, so you would be continuing that line. Also Mistico’s damn is platinum rated so he might have some of her producing abilities. So I think it would be worth giving him a shot at stud since he has pluses that the other Secret of Love stallions don’t have.
Cat makes an excellent point lobbying for another Cigar son. We have several sons from the “Cigar-line”, but most of them descend from Lucky Cigar, or have become diluted. The ‘pool’ could definitely benefit, especially given that Take Me Away has a solid dam line…
As for Mistico, I’m pretty biased and most of the points have already been made… so take this with a grain o’ salt. .
His dam is dynamite, and appears to cross well with Worth, as well as Love; he keeps looking better considering how his 1/2 and full sisters have been performing this year. His pedigree is pretty, and as most have mentioned, he seems to be the best, if not only, male source for Spectacular Bid (who’s kicking butt as a BM sire, ps… ).
