Well, since all my foals are on the ground, all my mares bred for next season, I´ve started looking for dates for next year. The thing is, is that it feels like I´ve got Rogue sons or Worth sons to choose from and then the “famous” stallions and a fair smattering of Cross Road sons here and there. I know this is not the case, but you can´t argue with the fact that there´s two very dominant bloodlines, and some of my mares already have both! It kind of limits our options, and I´m sure I´m not the only one facing this dilema. I imagine that there are a BUNCH of amazing colts out on the track now that don´t have Rogue or Worth in their pedigree.
If you have one of these studs, and are playing with the idea of retiring them within the next year, post below. Heck, if you´ve got a boy who´s still does not have a breeding ranking, post below. ´d love to know what´s out there.
Cricket Hill will most likely be offering ICh. Dark Continent (Land Ho x Dark Victory by Dark Lord) next year. He´s the only Land Ho son, as of yet, to qualify for stud with a record of: 67(55) 14(11)-11(10)-13(11)-10(9) $3,049,700. He´s won both on dirt and turf, but is predominantly a turf horse, with the capability of winning stakes from 6f all the way up to 11f, though he seems to be most comfortable around the longer side of a mile. He started strong as a 2yo and at 5 years old he´s still going reasonably strong. I hope he endows his foals with this sort of longevity.
So, I´m really excited about him, especially since he was purchased as a weanling at auction for $500. Nevertheless, no matter how excited I am, I don´t feel justified in sending him all my mares. So, tell me, who´s going to be fresh off the track and into the breeding shed that I should be looking out for?
NCh. Lasting Spirit – NCh. Killing Time (B) X Lasting Impression (S) a solid SC performer. He’s the only one I’m looking at that’s in the Non-category
55(39) 14(11) 7(5) 7(4) 4(2) $1,596,200
Well I’ve got one that will likely be retiring next year.
ICh. What’s Your Point
Point Given (S) x Rosebud (G)
He’ll be the only stally out of point given up for stud. He’s a fantastic runner and has some very nice, new, bloodlines.
I’m also hoping that GCh. Mr. Prospective will make stud status, though he hasn’t been running super well lately. If he does then he’ll be bringing in some Mr. Prospector lines
I’ve got My Lucky Day but he’s a son of Lucky Cigar and then there’s Secretsarebound, a Secretariat son.
Next year I may have standing at stud (depending on if he qualifies or not) is NCh. Almost A Star (Almost Home (S) x Starfire (G)). He’s won sprints, distance races, on dirt and on turf. He’s been going strong since later in his two year old year but really hit his stride last year at 3 with a bunch of Grade 2 stakes wins. This year he’s won an ungraded stakes and was third in the Pimlico Special.
I’m looking forward to seeing Lasting Spirit at stud Paul. I’ve already planning on breeding Strobe Light to him.
Well as most of you know I’ve been planning on sending WCh. Nightfight to stud for some time now. The last couple years though he’s exceeded my expectations and took himself to levels I never knew he’d reach. The only reason I didn’t retire him this year is because he is so close to FFCh. status and breaking 11 million in earnings, BUT poor guy has just gotten tired this year. I can’t blame him though. Hes been racing since he was 2 and had his 7th birthday this year. We are definitly going to let him amble on this year since the breeding season is pretty much over then let him start his retirement next year.
He will be the first son of The Black i[/i] to go to stud and the son of the great mare Times Ebonyi.[/i]
In the Hall Of Fame he currently holds 5th in overall money earners ($10,647,750), 6th in overall stake winners (18 stake wins, 12 of which are Grade 1) and 7th in overall point earners with 1,236 points.
The neatest highlight about his race record is he won the Grade 1 Whitney Handicap three years in a row (08,09,10), and the Grade 1 Metrpolitan two years in a row (08,09).
Also, Nightfight holds 5 speed records ranging from 7.5 furlongs to 14 furlongs. Though, he is mainly a dirt horse it’s not a bad thing to breed for since the richest race is on the dirt (Dubai, which he showed twice in (09,10)), the Breeders Cup Classic is on the dirt (Placed in 2010), and the Older Horse triple has two races now on the dirt with one on the grass.
Well thats all the campaining i’m going to try for tonight. I can’t wait to retire him, and we’ll definitly be offering some great prices for his first year to bring in some mares. We’ll probably keep it 1,000 and free for those mares who booked to him before.
if my boy Battle Strike reaches the goal I want him to reach before february next year I will be retiring him to stud.
Battle Strike is by Man O’War out of Jacket Required (Class Act). He is consistent on both turf and dirt over distances ranging from 5 furlongs to 8.5 furlongs.
