Unbelievable. NYRA is such a joke. Recently a clerk at Belmont was charged with cashing unpaid betting tickets for himself. Here’s a link to the story:

On top of that, a former assistant clerk of scales was accused of letting jockeys ride overweight. Here’s a link to that story: http://www.thoroughbredtimes.com/todaysnews/newsview.asp?recno=58026&subsec=1
Furthermore, NYRA has recently announced that they will be broke in less than a month, and will be selling land near Aqueduct to survive out the year. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2005/more/10/04/bc.rac.nyra.funds.ap/index.html
A while back someone was charged with placing bets AFTER the race had gone off.
It’s a shame that in New York, a place where there are some of the greatest trainers, horses and jockeys around, the state has done such a horrible job running the tracks. Time to end the political appointments in the racing business. I think it’s about time the state gives it up and lets a private enterprise run the tracks in NY. I’m tired of hearing of all the corruption in NY racing. No wonder why they are losing money with a monopoly on NY racing. I have been betting on California tracks, and will continue to, until someone straightens it out over here. :x
