New famous stallions in 2023?

It’s hard to find a successfull horse that isn’t inbred to a popular sire, but based on “famous races”, I have a few suggestions…

Trainer and owner: Uriah St. Lewis. Touching story as a bonus: Discreet Lover and Uriah St. Lewis are a Breeders’ Cup underdog story

There is also the American Triple Crown winner Justify, but he got retired quite early… and he is 3x5x5 inbred to Mr. Prospector. So not as exciting as American Pharoah

That’s great, Hilda. Thanks.

I’ve never quite understood what is meant by “inbred 3x5 or “5x5? Does that mean that one of the horse’s great-grandfathers (that would be the “3) is the same as one of his great-great-great-grandfathers (that would be the “5)?

Also, when you say that Justify is “3x5x5 inbred to Mr. Prospector, does that mean that one of his great-grandfather (the 3) is the same as two of his great-great-great-grandfathers (the 5’s)?

Just curious.

Lewis: yes, 3x5 means that the same ancestor appears in 3rd and in 5th generation, and 3x5x5 means that the same ancestor appears in 3rd generation and twice in 5th generation (thus reducing the number of possible ancestors if each of them was different). Pedigree Query marks these ancestors with different colours:

pedigreequery.com/justify11

and Final Furlong marks them in bold, so for example my filly Natalma is 2x2 inbred to GCh. Jazz It Up. At least that’s what I mean by writing it this way - I hope it’s correct

LOVE Poet’s Word.

Would also love to throw out Mind Your Biscuits, who I’ve always been in love with. For one, that name in FF would be gold. On more serious notes, he would have no in-game connections in his immediate pedigree (having Rahy, Deputy Minister, and Awesome Again in the 4th gen, which doesn’t appear in “create” pedigrees), he raced and won soundly at age 2-5, and won from 6-9f including back to back G1 Dubai Golden Shaheen’s. Also very sad to see him retire to Japan next year, so would love to have him in game.

Hoping we can keep several current RL studs in the game for next year (ex: Frankel, Frosted, American Pharaoh, Curlin especially) but votes will decide.

Would love to see Gun Runner in the game. Justify, too. I thought Mind Your Biscuits was still running? Or does that matter?

I’m 99% sure he was only to race through this year because Shadai bought the stud rights and he’s off to Japan for 2019. Gun Runner I don’t think we could have since we had his sire and damsire both in FF. Justify I’d be sidestepping for personal reasons, but we only had his damsire in game.

Gotcha. I had seen stuff about him running the rest of the year. Guess I missed the rest of that story. Whoops. Lol. And gotcha. I can understand why the other 2 might not get added. Just a fan of Gun Runner, personally, and would be in favor of Justify since he won the Triple Crown.

I don’t mind Gun Runner’s connections since Candy Ride was active in FF for only one season.

I actually like it when real life stallions have some pedigree in the game too. Makes the “hypothethical mating” more interesting

Also, the real life popular sires are not as popular in Final Furlong; for example we only have 155 active horses (not retired or deceased) that have Northern Dancer in their pedigree; 587 with Mr. Prospector. And 2488 active horses (broodmares, stallions, racehorses, yearlings, weanlings) having What’s It Worth. 908 with Highland Rogue. 362 horses have The Black in their pedigree (sire of Nightfight) and Nightfight, although deceased, has many successful sons at stud so he’s becoming popular in the pedigrees, while real life The Black doesn’t seem to be equally popular.

Then I am very much on board to bring in a Candy Ride son! I’ll even withdraw my proposal for Mind Your Biscuits to back up Gun Runner.

Yes! I’d love to see Gun Runner in the game. Justify, meh. We already have a TC winner in the game and I’d rather keep American Pharoah.

Oh for sure! If we’re comparing American Pharoah and Justify, I’d choose American Pharoah every time. I just have an obsession with TC winners is all, which is why I’d like to see Justify in the game if it wasn’t gonna cost us better stallions like American Pharoah.

Poet’s Word is a grandson of Dubawi, would it have to be one or the other?

I’d have to look at the full list we end up with but usually it’s only a swap-out if it’s father/son or there are 3+ closely related horses in the voting

Perhaps one more, but I don’t know if he’s retiring to stud:

  • London Town (by Kane Hekili, out of Fairy Banyan / Honour And Glory, 4x5x5 inbred to In Reality, 5x5 inbred to Northern Dancer)

Year Starts 1st 2nd 3rd Other Earnings(JPY)
JPN 2015 4 1 1 0 2 7,720,000
2016 9 3 1 0 5 48,079,000
2017 8 2 1 0 5 83,057,000
2018 4 0 0 0 4 5,400,000
Total 25 6 3 0 16 144,256,000
KOR Total 2 2 0 0 0

The most recent news I have about him is his win in the 2018 Korea Cup (video). Quite impressive!

Comment from World Horse Racing on Twitter:

“LONDON TOWN absolutely thrashes them in the Keenland Korea Cup. He breaks the track record and wins by an absolute mile.”

And a photo of London Town winning - I think that’s how I learned about him, somehow this photo popped up.

And another… interesting pedigree, and a lovely colour - is he a liver chestnut?

  • Weekend Hideaway (by Speightstown, out of Apocalyptical / Wiseman’s Ferry, 3x4 inbred to Storm Cat, 4x5 to Secretariat, 5x5 to Buckpasser, Bold Ruler, and Nashua)

FLZDIS’11 $40K
Updated/last raced 27Aug2018
Injured in a workout and retired in Sept 2018.

Standing at Irish Hill & Dutchess Views Stallions LLC, Stillwater, NY for 2019. $2,500.

Godolphin just announced the retirement of Talismanic, who I would LOVE to nominate as a new FF stud. No in-game relatives in his pedigree, and would add some lovely chrome to the FF gene pool I think.

I would definitely be up for seeing Talismanic in the game. His track record might not be quite as impressive as some of the others, but with no in-game relatives to get in the way, that’s always a plus. And he’s so pretty, too!

I like Talismanic too! I already have his portrait as my profile pic  although I didn’t know about him back then, it just seemed to me like a rather unusual colour / markings combination.

Current proposed list consists of:

Currently we have:

  • American Pharoah
  • Bernardini
  • Blame
  • California Chrome
  • Curlin
  • Deep Impact
  • Dubawi
  • Frankel
  • Frosted
  • Golden Horn
