Chris walked into the

broodmare barn. Legend eyed her as she stopped at the stall door and looked over at Twin

Peaks. The handsome bay colt whickered and stepped over to the door. Chris patted the bay’s

nose and continued on to Deadly Game’s stall. The chestnut mare stepped over to Chris and

nudged her with her nose. Chris patted Game’s silky nose and watched Patriotic Sunset as she

roamed around the stall. Only 4 days old the beautiful chestnut filly was nearly as strong

anf healthy as Twin Peaks who was 9 days old.

Chris glanced over at Minor Infraction’s

stall as she walked through the mostly empty barn. She exited the broodmare barn and watched

as Starlight Bandit, Hayburn, and Against All Odds romped in their pasture. In the next

pasture That’s A Rogue, Lit A Fire, Time Traveler, Echo In Time and All That Jazz contently

grazed. As Chris’s eyes roamed the pastures she spotted Almost A Star and What’s That About

standing nose to nose at the fence separating the 2 pastures.

Next to About’s paddock

Wicked Witch and Brazen Success grazed side by side. Chris smiled at the sight of all her

thoroughbreds and whistled. All at once the thoroughbreds lifted their heads and nickered.

New Broodmare. Saying

Goodbye to others

Chris led Echo In Time and Lit A Fire out to their new owners and after

they were loaded up she waved goodbye. After the two trailers had dissapeared around the

corner the CDS trailer pulled up. Chris hurried forward to collect Thinking of Dreams. The

beautiful mare daintily walked down the ramp and looked around curiously.
The truck driver

handed over Dream’s lead rope to Chris and got back in the truck and drove away.

Dream

lifted her head and whinnied, from inside the barn Chris heard the distinct calls of Golden

Legend, Minor Infraction and Deadly Game. Chris led the grey mare into the brightly lit

broodmare barn and grinned at the sight of the 3 mares and 2 weanlings hanging their heads

over the stalls. Chris guided the slightly round mare into the empyy stall next to Deadly

Game’s.

Game whinnied loudly tossing her head. Patriot snorted and shied away from Dream.

Chris stepped out of Dreams stall and hung the lead rope on a peg outside the stall. Now 20

days old Patriot stood out brightly next to her grey colored dam. The bay filly was he

prettiest filly Chris had ever seen and she couldn’t wait until Patriot started racing in 2

years. Chris moved on to Legend’s stall. The chestnut mare had been the first mare Chris had

ever purchased. Now one of the farm’s best broodmares Legend had found a permant home and

would never leave.

Twin Peaks neighed when he saw Chris. The handsome bay colt was now a

little over a month old. So far Peaks and Patriot were getting along outside in the paddocks.

Chris smiled at the bright colored mare and foal before moving to Minor Infraction’s stall.

The grey mare had been bred to Street Wise long before Chris had purchased her. Minor was

growing slightly round with the foal she was due to deliver in January but as Legend had

showed her, first time broodmares usually foaled later than their date.

2 months later

Chris was

leading Brazen Success and Wicked Witch out to their paddock when the trailer carrying

Royalle came up the driveway. Chris hurriedly put the blood bay and grey fillies in the

pasture before leaving to collect Royalle. By the time Chris arrived at the trailer Ashleigh

was there and was taking Royalle’s lead line.
Ashleigh nodded to something the driver said

and he got back in his van and drove off. Chris walked calmly up to the black mare and held

her hand out. The mare’s delicate muzzle quivered as she lipped Chris’s hand. Chris placed

her other hand on Royalle’s neck and patted her.
“She’s a real beauty” Ashleigh said

stroking Royalle’s star.
"Yes she sure is and with the right studs her foals will be

awesome runners" Chris nodded to Ashleigh and the young stable hand led the black mare into

the broodmare barn and next to Dreams stall.
“What stallion will this girl get to meet?” Ash

asked as she slipped out of Royalle’s stall and placed the lead rope on the hook outside the

stall.
"I was thinking about Starzen. The Go For Dash and Black Legend lines would produce

one amazing foal." Chris said rubbing Dreams’ nose.

Chris backed My Lucky Day

down the trailer at RLF. The 7 year old chestnut stallion lifted his head once he was out of

the trailer and whinned. Legend, Royalle and Dreams answered back from the paddock. Throwing

up his head the tall stallion followed Chris into the empty stallion barn. Chris led the

champion into the stall she had fixed up before going to bring him home. Ashleigh hurried

into the barn just as Chris had shut the door. Walking quietly over Ash peered in at the

stud. Pricking his ears Lucky Day nickered a greeting before pulling hay from his haynet.

Come on Ashleigh Chris said stepping away to let Lucky

Day get settled in. Ashleigh nodded and followed Chris out into the sunlight.

We have a stallion at Stud Ashleigh said excitedly.

This is amazing.

Several weeks after My Lucky Day arrived Chris drove through the iron gates with her trailer inside was a yearling colt. Pulling up beside the broodmare barn she turned the truck off and jumped out walking around to the back and unbolted the trailer door. When daylight flooded into the trailer Boston Wind turned his head blinking in the sudden brightness. Chris moved up the ramp and studied the grey nice straight leg, wide chest, a bit long in the back, intelligent eye, good hindquarters " Yeah he’ll make an okay racer" Chris thought as she untied the yearling and backed him down the ramp.

Once all four feet were on solid ground Wind whinnied tossing his head eagerly. My Lucky Day snorted and Time Traveler looked up before turning back to grazing. Chris turned Wind quickly and lead him in the barn leading the colt inside the stall at the far end Ashleigh had fixed up. As Chris took off Wind’s last leg bandage she heard footsteps and looked up to see Melanie leading Royalle in the barn. The black mare’s coat was shining with water from her bath and Melanie had dirt on her hands, face and clothes. Chris grinned and asked “Was she dirty?” Melanie stroked Wind’s nose and answered “Just a little.”

Just then Chris’s cell phone rang and she answered it after a few minutes she hung up and said “I have to go pick up a filly can you keep a eye on Wind while I’m gone Mel?” Melanie said “Sure” and shooed Chris off after putting Royalle in her stall and slipping in Legend’s stall with a grooming kit. Hurrying away to her truck Chris hurriedly put the ramp back up before jumping in the truck and driving off.

Later that night
Chris drove her with her Racing Legends Farm hat on with dirt everywhere. She sighed with reilef when she saw the RLF gates up ahead.
Listening to the quiet horses behind her Chris smiled at the future with the new horses. The security lights were on in front of all the barns and brighter lights came from inside the racing barn’s office. As soon as Chris cut the truck off and jumped out Melanie, Samantha and Ashleigh came through the barn doors toward the truck.

As Chris lowered the ramp the three grooms waited until she set it on the ground and walked up the ramp before moving up to gather the horses. Chris moved quietly up the ramp and untied gentle Star Baby. The tall filly nuzzled Chris and Chris patted the sweet filly’s soft nose. Baby took calm steps out of the trailer with Chris walking at her head. When the 2yo filly was out of the trailer she looked around curiously and nickered softly snuffling Chris’s hands and standing quietly. Samantha raised her eyebrows as she sized up the pretty filly. Ashleigh and Melanie glanced at Chris expectanly. " This is Star Baby. She’s a two year old by Rainbow Quest and out Meteor Shower. She’s raced 4 times all out of the money." But I really liked her bloodlines and with a little time she could go into her long legs." Melanie nodded thoughtfully and Ashleigh moved forward holding out her hand. Star Baby pricked her ears and nudged Ashleigh’s hand lipping at her sleeve. “She’s a sweety.” Ashleigh said gently taking the lead rope and led Baby into the barn. Meanwhile Melanie moved up and untied the bay yearling as Melanie led Pink Ace away towad the broodmare barn Chris described the filly’s lineage. " She’s by Class Act and out of Golden Flames which makes her a half sister to Golden Legend and I also walked away with an older half sister of Legend’s and a younger and so far the only son of Golden Flames." Samatha nodded and walked up the ramp with Chris and they brought down the last two. Pointing to the mare Chris said" She’s Flaming Possibility Legend’s older sister and this is Sea Aflame a winning 2yo." Chris said patting the chestnut colt beside her. Nodding Sam moved off to the mares barn and Chris led Aflame to the racing barn.

Chris watched with pride as Samantha backed Brush Strokes down the ramp of the trailer. The three year old 16.2 colt was a son of Rainbow Quest and Chris was hoping to turn the bay colt into a top notch stakes runner.
Tossing his head Strokes whinned and Chris laughed as Samantha led the colt over to where Time Traveler, Against All Odds, Hayburn and the newly gelded Starlight Bandit grazed.

Turning around she saw the Ashleigh driving the trailer that held Whirl It a daughter of Whirlaway and the dam of Spinning Hill. Chris walked across to bring down the ramp as Ashleigh turned off the truck and jumped out. She’s a beauty. Isn’t she? Chris asked happily as she led the chestnut 16.1 hand 12 year old mare to the broodmare barn. Samantha turned Brush Strokes loose and wandered back up the hill to see Chris take Whirl It in the broodmare barn. Who’s she in foal to? Sam asked as she watched Chris get Whirl It settled in her stall next to Thinking of Dreams. She is in foal to Highland Mystery. He raced until he was six. Won the Brightwood stakes at two, the Hudson Handicap and Lagoon stakes at 4, San Antonio Handicap, Pimlico Special, Woodward stakes, and Empire Classic at 5. His stud fee is $25,000 so I think we got a good deal.
