My horse

Gina’s (my sister) poor

event horse Daisy coliced on Friday night here is the story of events:
11:30 a.m. 6/24/05 -

Daisy was ridden and did light Dressage work for 30 minutes
12:00 p.m. 6/24/05- Daisy was

cooled off and given a bath
2:30 p.m. 6/24/05- Daisy (along with all the other horses) were

turned out
5:15 p.m. 6/24/05- Daisy (along with all the other horses) were brought in their

stalls for the night, Daisy was found laying down rolling on the grass.
5:45 p.m. 6/24/05-

Teresa (our vet) came out and gave her banamine and other injections to try to help.
6:00

p.m. 6/24/05- Daisy was brought to New Bolton Centre, they gave her more injections but they

only helped for a few hours
9:00 p.m. 6/24/05- Daisy underwent colic surgery
1:30 a.m.

6/25/05- Daisy came out of colic surgery and we stayed with her until 2:15 a.m. that morning

and got home at 2:30 a.m. and went to sleep

She is doing just fine now. She has come off

her IV’s and is allowed to eat Equine Sr. and small amounts of hay. She will be at New

Bolton Centre for a week or so more. We just can’t understand why she coliced our horses

have the greatest care! And all the other horses are just fine. If you want to see pixs

before she was opened up click this link -><a

When

you click on the link her show name is Assertive Elegance
P.S. Gina may look a little

chunky in the pixz but she is wearing a wind breaker, sweatshirt and a jumping vest. When I

say “my horse” int he topic my sister and I share her

Its good to hear that she

made it out of surgery okay. My four year old morgan that we had just gotten back from

training a month before colic on may 18 but was unable to be saved. She was the love of my

life. This is the third horse I have lost and I am not really sure I should be into horses

anymore. I am very unlucky I guess. Hope she continues to do well for you.

As Brianna said, be grateful

she made it through ok. Also, sometimes there is no “good” explanation. Emma colicked

badly last spring, and had $6,000 surgery, and all they found was a giant lump of hay,

which only tells us that she’s a pig. :stuck_out_tongue: The round bale was good quality, the other horses

were fine, so Emma just ate too much, too fast.

Good luck with the recuperation, that’s

always a challenge (though probably less so with a mature mare than an insane/hyper 2yo).

Thanks guys. Sorry to hear

about your horses. Expecially you Edgewood Stud, since you lost yours. I thought she

wouldn’t make it but luckily she did.

Brianna- just adopt my

mentality…give that 2 broken legs & 1 major colic surgery from 2 horses owned is an insane

amount of problems, I figure I’m getting all of my “bad karma” out of the way now. The

rest of my horsey life should be nice an’ easy…knock on wood.

Oh I hope so.

Yeah, lucky you she made it!

I used to lease a black mare that I was told died recently. My instructor had pastured her

with another young horse and the young horse colicked and died and a week later my favorite

little black mare died of the same thing.
We think my horse now has an ulcer too

And my first horse had so many leg injuries that she was barely able to be ridden.
If a

horse can get hurt or sick, they will, no matter how hard you try to prevent it. They get a

kick out of seeing us worry over them.

OMG, was is a bad weed or

something?? That’s crazy and even law-suit worthy, i think. Sorry to hear about that.

and yes I have talked about my mare a lot of the forum but just to let those who don’t

know, I lost a mare during surgery due to a ruptured stomach. Stupid stall cleaners should

have saw she wasn’t pooping for a week but you can’t expect much from working students.

I’m so glad your mare made it out of surgery now it’s recovery time.

 My mare hasn’t colicked

yet and I hope she never does, well, it’s very good that she came out ok.

It was

impaction colic for both, and my instructor owned them both. I leased that mare many years

back. She taught me alot though and around the barn she was considered mine. I’m not really

sure why they both got impaction, my instructor was always really careful about things like

that because about 5-6 years back her stallion died from that. I’m not too upset though, the

mare I leased was close to 30 :astonished:

Wea ren’t sure yet what it

was. Thanks for your concern guys.
Sorry to hear about your (leased) horse Sorceress

Edea.

Well she was half blind with

a dent in her neck. I’m surprised she lived that long to tell the truth :frowning:

Sorry about your horse

Nicole :frowning: but luckily it turned well. I knew a horse who died of colic, but he was pretty

old, I miss him so much.:frowning:
