What’s the general concensus on linebreeding/inbreeding for FF? I’m looking at a few and have some bred with say Highland Rogue as sire’s sire and granddam’s sire. Is this referred to as a 2x3 (so pedigree line two x pedigree line three)? Is this acceptable? I know we have High On Love and maybe a couple of others who are 2x2 (Rogue as grandsire on both sides) which I try and avoid. Is 3x3 better? We’re not really at four generations yet. Getting there though and personally can’t wait until we are!
I think 3x3 is not awful.
Consequences are that the horse might be super awesome or super awful. More importantly, they’re more likely to be made out of glass, you baby your inbred foals.
Slightly more accurate is that the foal is going to be more like the inbred horse in both strengths and weaknesses. If the inbred horse is an endurance monster who hates dirt, even if the parents both love dirt, the foal will be more likely to hate dirt than if s/he weren’t inbred to dirt-hater. Likewise with stamina, the foal will be more likely to mirror the ancestor’s stamina than a foal whose parents had the same stats but different pedigrees (i.e. weren’t inbred).
And, as Cat pointed out, soundness will take a hit as a result of inbreeding.
