Leased broodie question

I just leased a broodmare that’s due in May of this year. The lease is, of course, for one year. When she gives birth, and I breed her for a '15 foal, will the foal still be mine, even though the lease ended? Will the foal she’s currently pregnant with be mine?

You should not be able to breed her once the lease ends (though technically, I guess she would still be leased to you if you leased her on Mar 1 and bred her on Mar 2 and she’s due Feb 3, with the lease ending Mar 1 again).

So yes, you could piss off the mare’s owner and breed her for 2015, but I’d advise against doing that.

The 2014 foal that you bred will be yours, the mare will head back to her owner.

I didn’t breed the foal that’s due this year. I just leased the mare today, and she’s due to foal in May '14

Ahhh, I see.  The system shouldn’t allow a mare who’s still in foal to be leased, so that’s weird.

Anyway, the 2014 foal will be owned/bred by the mare’s owner, the 2015 foal that you breed would be owned/bred by you.

Actually, I take it back, you can only lease mares for 2015 if they don’t have a 2015 foal on the way, still being in foal for 2014 is fine.

Okay, that makes sense. Thanks for clearing that up.
