Kismet Thoroughbreds 2023 Foals

I wasn’t going to post my tiny list of foals, but here we go. I thought it would be fun to have a theme for each year. For 2023, it was words or phrases from Latin.

ATQUE
NCh. Nobly Regal (S) x Encouragement - NCh. The Fighting Fifty (B)
9.0h dark bay filly / born May 18

“And” in Latin. Sentimental favorite as Encouragement was the first FF horse I won a race with.

CIRCA
NCh. Too Stressful x Golden Flower (S) - GCh. Harvard Bound (B)
8.3h light chestnut filly / born April 5

“Around” in Latin.

FLORUIT
NCh. Formal Occasion (S) x Cottlesloe - NCh. Conflagration
10.3h dark grey colt / born March 7

“Time of flourishing” in Latin. First foal for his SP dam.

FORTUNA FAVET
NCh. Celtic Star (S) x Yuzu (B) - Created
9.3h dark grey filly / born April 3

“Fortune favors” in Latin (full adage: “fortuna favet forbitus” / “fortune favors the brave”). Half to SP Zap You Again (Ghostzapper).

MIRABILE DICTU
NCh. Too Stressful x Raviani (S) - WCh. Strike It Rich (B)
10.3h bay filly / born March 4

“Wonderful to talk about” in the sense of noteworthy or unusual in Latin; it’s from the Aeneid. Half to SP Rich Prospect (Mr. Prospector).

O TEMPORA
NCh. Silver Wizard x Divine Touch (B) - Point Given (S)
9.3h dark grey filly / born May 6

“Oh the times!” in Latin; it’s from Cicero. The full quote is “O tempora! O mores!” (minus exclamation points, hah) which Edgar Allen Poe later used for a poem title.

PAX ROMANA
9.2h brown colt / born April 3
NCh. LiveLong&Prosper x Ch. Peace Treaty (B) - Man o’ War (S)

Half to SW Ch. Cross Treaty (Double Cross) and SP Colossal Advantage (High on Love), Ch. Eye Candy (Jazz It Up), and Aries Patton (Magic Cross). He is Peace Treaty’s final foal; she was retired in April.

SINE QUA NON
10.0h bay colt / born March 6
GCh. Beau Esprit (B) x Butterfly - GCh. One Lucky Soul

“The essential thing” in Latin more or less, still a term in law and medicine.

4 colts / 4 fillies
1 foal still due

Lovely foals and a great theme for the names.

Those are some fantastic names! I’m glad you shared. I love the idea of a theme each year.
