Well, guess that’s the end

of our contest. Fabulous race by a gorgeous horse.

Just, wow! I bet on the

wrong long shot!

Great horse, nice race.

yeah. all over…just like

that. oh well. a nice horse indeed. he deserved to win. it was a great race. now for the

FF Derby

Pretty cool, the 2nd biggest

upset in Kentucky Derby history. And I think that that little girl’s, Alex’s, story is so

touching. It made me cry.

What an upset… Yay, yay,

yay… :stuck_out_tongue:

In all seriousness, what can people expect to happen when horses are raced like

2-3 times leading into this race? Surely you can’t have figured out who is the dead cert. to

win on a couple of performances…

Man, just goes to show how wierd the American racing

industry is. 3YO fillies retired because they loose a race, horses retired to stud at 3YO

because if they kept racing after the Belmont they’d risk his value… Watch out guys,

Giacomo will be at stud next week! :stuck_out_tongue:

What happened to the glamour days of horse racing

when a horse was raced not only for money but for the joy of the people?

I’ll second that. I feel

that you can’t predict how a horse will race with only 2-4 career starts. Yeah, you can

train all you want and set the fastest fractions, but I feel that the effects of actual

racing has different effects and how can you judge that without getting a feel for them more?

Horses are becoming more wimpy in my opinion. You know horses use to be ridden without

saddle pads? Now if you would attempt that they would be off for a month with a back ache.

Yea, Giacomo was awesome.

We’ll have to see if he can keep winning.

Wierd though…a few nights before I had a

dream that a grey horse won the derby but I was like, there are no greys in the derby this

year, totally forgot about Giacomo. Then he won it and I was like hmmm. :stuck_out_tongue:

It was a great race tho, I

love surprises. Wish I woulda had the intuition to bet tho! He paid $102!! 2nd biggest

longshot in Derby history! And if you somehow picked right for the superfecta…over 1.7

million!

I used to ride my mare

without a saddle pad. I wouldn’t do it with my western saddle, but it doesn’t hurt too

badly with my english saddle. And we used to train the 2 time World Champion walking horse in

a saddleseat saddle without a saddlepad. I don’t think it hurts them, it’s just more

comfortable with one. As for the upset, wow! That was awesome for such a long shot to win!

But in the states newpapers people are talking about he can’t win anything else and he

shouldn’t have won that because it’s going to mess up the race industry. If

only people could just be happy for the horse and his trainer and owners and jockey. That was

awesome.

Jase, I think we’re all of

the opinion that American trainers/owners are incredibly wussy. But I’m also not sure that

running them as much as you guys do is the best option either . Presumably somewhere in

the middle there’s a happy medium, but until Shanthi and I earn enough money to buy a real

race horse, not much we can do about it

Oh, come on. If only the “best”

horse won the Derby, then we’d have some pretty crappy Derby winners, in my opinion. Sure,

he only had 1 win before the Derby…but he’d also finished no worse than 5th, against nice

horses. That’s nothing to sneeze at.

I agree. I was reading the

paper this morning and that’s what I saw. And I’m willing to bet that the people who wrote

the article didn’t know anything about horses anyways. All I saw though was 'So-and-So

should have won and since Giacomo did now there wont be anyone interested in the Preakness

and Belmont. It’s hard to convince people that Giacomo has a chance at winning the Triple

Crown." Well, its hard to convince anyone that ANY horse can win that. It’s not often that a

Triple Crown winner comes up, I think it’s just people that are mad that they lost money

because of Giacomo :stuck_out_tongue:

Granted, the year Monarchos

won the Derby was a bit of a let down… but I’m almost ready for a “relaxing” year of not

having to worry about who wins the Belmont. I’m all for a Triple Crown winner and I think

Giacomo could have a chance. But at least no matter what he’s liable to run past the

Belmont . His owners won’t have to make excuses for why he might have lost if he loses.
