Kentucky Derby 2011

I just realized there was no Derby thread and there can’t not be one! So I’m posting this even though it’s kind of late. Who does everyone like?

I’m going with Nehro, Midnight Interlude, ArchArchArch, Dialed In

I love wide open Derbys. It should make for an exciting race.

I was for Uncle Mo, but he seems to have some trouble. My fingers crossed for Dialed In - his trainer Nick Zito has great attitude and he seems to know what he’s doing. Also, Dialed In looks a little bit like my ex-horse, with his dark coat and curly mane

Just read that Uncle Mo has been scratched due to intestinal issues.  Looks like it really could be anyone’s race!

Since I pick my ponies based on their names (don’t really follow racing…), I’d love to see Pants on Fire win.  Because the name is just awesome.

I pick mine based on colour (grey, so Twinspired) and interesting name (Pants on Fire is awesome and I like the sound of Derby Kitten).

I like Nehro and Master of Hounds in the Derby, and I love Zazu in the Oaks.

Congratulations to Animal Kingdom! Nehro gave it a good fight but Animal Kingdom had a great trip and was rolling there at the end. Can’t wait for the Preakness.

Congrats Animal Kingdom! I really liked Nehro’s run, too. Great race.

Animal Kingdom was my pick weeks before Derby day. Too bad I wasn’t picked for the $100,000 dollar bet! There is always next year.

I am really curious to see how he runs in the Preakness and the Belmont (if he runs at all). He has stamina in his pedigree even if it is leaning towards turf, he proved he can run on dirt!

Now, who do you think will win the Preakness Stakes? Animal Kingdom? Mucho Macho Man? Dialed In? Or none from the Derby runners?

It would always be nice to have a Triple Crown, and I’ll support Animal Kingdom in the hopes that he can do it.

Shackleford ran really impressively in the Derby and I think he certainly can’t be written off. I also think Dance City and Astrology are worth keeping an eye on. I think it will definitely be an interesting race!
