June 16 Updates

Updated the data in the database - should be updated through today (though not today’s races as they haven’t run yet). (This is why the site was down for part of the day.)

Added AEI stats for stallions’ pages. This is the average of his foals’ CPI stats. So 1.00 would be a stallion whose offspring have earned the average amount. Above 1.00 is above average earnings for his foals, below 1.00 is the opposite. It’s calculated separately for sire vs broodmare sire stats (like the breeding rankings).

So, AEI’s 1.0 means that a stallion’s foals have earned an average amount compared to other foals their age?

How much does a random outlier (i.e. 1 monster pony amid a bunch of eh performers) skew this stat?

Correct.

I don’t know. Looking at the sires of the horses on the hall of fame page for earnings, though, no one looks super monster-y (though that said, all those sires have quite a few MSW foals, their big earners aren’t the only nice foals they have). We’ll have to see.

Did you see Foolhardy’s numbers?

It seems most of the boys I’ve looked at have sub-1.00 numbers, aside from the established Gold+ stallions. Does that sound about right?

Holy beegesh to the Foolhardy number (2.08!) but they can always change

Nightfight’s is even higher at 2.15…

I’m just saying… I’d expect to see a lot more near-average scores. Of course, those two monster-stallions could be ruining it for the rest of us.

I ran a query on the database to get the horses with the highest average earnings index across their careers (i.e. biggest bang for the buck per start). Their sires are:

Nightfight (Sponsored) - 2.15
Foolhardy (Temporary Insanity, Daredevil Dan, I’m No Fool) - 2.08
What’s It Worth (Express Yourself, Gunningdownromance) - 2.05
A.P. Indy (Black Type, Aptitude) - 1.30
Highland Magic (Spock) - 1.24
Bold Ruler (King David) - 1.22
Irish River (Carrowmore) - 1.15
Jazz It Up (All Jazzed Up) - 1.11
I’m A Classic (Von Lichtenstein) - 1.08
Point Given (Persuasion) - 0.96
Planet Hollywood (Atlantis) - 0.81

I also made a graph of all studs’ average earnings indexes.

You can see the outliers, but most are around/under 1.0.

Whoo graphs!
