Ivy Creek's Annual Dispersal Sale

At the beginning of each year, I plan to try to trim down the herd a bit.  All of these horses are ones I have held on to for one reason or another, so it’s sad to see them go…but I feel some would do best under new management.

This year probably won’t be as dramatic in number, as last year’s sale was driven by low finances.  This year’s sales are driven only by the belief that each horse might desire different handling, and the methods I’ve been using on these (at least the racehorses) haven’t seem to have worked as well as I’d like.  Watch out, though - I’ve sold several horses for this reason that went on to become MSW.   Perhaps the next will show up on this list…

ShootForTheStars - 2013 brown mare, 14.3hh
SIRE:  created (his info was lost in the computer)
DAM: Ch. Titian {B} (x created)
This tiny gal only has 4 lifetime starts, so there’s a lot to learn about her.  I stuck her back at the farm in a pasture, assuming she was immature.  Now that she’s turned 4 and hasn’t grown an inch, I see that I was likely mistaken.  She just needs a chance.  Her dam was a stakes winner/multi-stakes placed/9f speed record at 5yo, so there’s definitely a chance that she still has her best years yet to come.
Asking price: $5,000  SOLD TO RACEWAY FARMS

Irish Muldoon - 2012 bay gelding, 16.0hh
SIRE: Danzig {G}
DAM: ICh. Twilight Embers {S} (x Irish River)
I hesitate to let this son of my prized HOTY mare go, but he’s taken an interest in hurdles, and I’m not a huge fan.  With a large racing string, he tends to get neglected here - he’s fat & sassy, sure, but I don’t think I’ve managed his racing campaign as well as I could have.  His last two starts have earned him speed factors of 288 and 272, respectively, where he finished 1st and 2nd.  He most certainly has the ability to earn money for you.  He’s only for sale to a good, active home that can give him more attention.
Asking price: $10,000  SOLD TO FREEDOM ACRES

Imprimis - 2013 black stallion, 15.1hh
SIRE: WCh. King David {B}
DAM: Je Suis Prest {B} (x created)
I tend to hoard my homebreds, and Imprimis is no exception.  Parting with them is so difficult!  Especially when their record is as good as his is.  He was in the top three 10 of 12 starts last year, earning over $106k and a speed record.  His name means “in first place”, and that’s what he strives to do - he hasn’t placed below 2nd since last June!  I only wish he liked running on the flat - I don’t tend to spend a lot of time on my hurdlers.
Asking price: $20,000  SOLD TO RAINEE THOROUGHBREDS

Natomas - 2014 black colt, 15.3hh
SIRE: GCh. Harvard Bound {B}
DAM: Whirling Diamond {S} (x Whirlaway)
This colt only has 3 lifetime starts, but finished 1st and 3rd in two of them.  He’s got a lot of potential under the right guidance.  I’m only letting him go to make room for the homebreds, and so he’s been sitting on the bench more.  He deserves better than that.
Asking price: $8,000 SOLD TO MAYFAIR

Cape Cod Rose - 2008 chestnut broodmare, 15.2hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
Multi-winner.  On the board over 50% of all non-stakes starts, and nearly 50% still if you include them.  Comes in foal to Long Live the King.  Just dropped her fourth foal, a colt, which we have retained.
Asking price: $6,000  SOLD TO FOX RUN

More may be added in time…

I’d be happy to adopt [color=blue]Natomas.   I’m usually pretty consistent about figuring out and racing my ponies, and I haven’t had any horses with major injuries since I started Final Furlong.

I would love to purchase Irish Muldoon if you believe that I qualify as a good home. I guess my pitch for myself as a buyer would be that I am very active, signing on at least once a day. My two biggest success stories are ICh. Unabridged and the up-and-coming Ch. Alfresco, both of whom have never seen the pastures of another stable before and their careers are entirely my work (and their talent of course!).

Of course I consider you an active home!  :stuck_out_tongue:  I’m super happy to see him go to you, and hope he will be prosperous for you.

Also, I’m glad to send Natomas and Imprimis find active new homes as well.  Thank you to Mayfair, Freedom Acres, and Rainee Thoroughbreds for taking interest in these boys!

Now only the mare is without a home.

I’m happy to report that all the above horses have found happy homes, AND that they have all won for their new owners at least once already (and paid back more than their asking price) - aside from the broodmare, of course.   Congratulations to all the new owners!

I’m trying to force myself to add a couple more to the list with our 2YOs starting training and a busy start to the year.  Who knows how successful this will be…

Holiday Joy - 2012 black mare, 16.1hh
SIRE: Northern Dancer {B}
DAM: Ch. Titian (x created)
Half sister to the mare I just sold, ShootForTheStars.  Has finished in the top three in over 50% of all non-stakes lifetime starts.  I took her on because another stable was going inactive.  I had originally planned to add her to the broodmare band, but I’ve got a decent sized band that I’m having trouble culling down each year (ha!).  So I thought I would see if anyone was highly interested.  She’s from the same stakes winner/multi-stakes placed/9f speed record earning mare, and she won her last non-stakes outing for me with an impressive 209 speed factor.  I really think she’s got plenty of race left in her, and then would make a fine broodmare.
NO LONGER FOR SALE - RETAINED BY IVY CREEK

Dawson’s Rudge - 2013 liver chestnut stallion, 16.2hh
SIRE: A.P. Indy {S}
DAM: Cloud Surfing {B} (x created)
This boy is super consistent.  He has been in the top three in 8 of 10 lifetime starts.  I have no doubt that, with proper management, he will try his little heart out to continue to do so.  He’s a good investment.  He’s entered in a claimer, but I will scratch if someone wants to buy him before that.
Asking price : $20,000 CLAIMED BY KRIS WHITE RACING

Nazgul - 2014 bay colt, 16.1hh
SIRE: GCh. Jazz It Up {G}
DAM: Poltergiest {B} (x GCh. My Lucky Day {S})
This is another difficult parting.  I really think this boy is able to do so much more, but I can’t get him to be consistent for me.  Then again, he only ran 6 times as a two year old, and he did win one of those.  I think he will blossom as he gets older (his speed factors have greatly improved).  He’s also entered in a claimer, but I will scratch if someone wants to buy him before that time.
Asking price : $15,000 SOLD TO MARSHALL CREEK

Sovereign Glory - 2014 bay colt, 15.0hh
SIRE: ICh. Magic Glory {S}
DAM: Sovereign Song (x created)
This boy was not run last year due to his apparent immaturity.  He’s still 2 inches shorter than the anticipated minimum mature height, but maybe he just will never reach it.  He has been entered into his first race, a maiden, so we will see how that goes.
Asking price : $15,000 SOLD TO MARSHALL CREEK

(In writing these descriptions, I have almost talked myself out of selling each one.)

Id like Nazgul and Sovereign Glory please

Only one of the previous horses is left - Holiday Joy - who has an intentionally high asking price.  I think she’s worth it, though, and will keep her if no one else sees it.

Adding one:

Je Suis Prest - 2008 light chestnut broodmare, 15.0hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
This broodmare is ready to go.  Her first foal, 4yo Imprimis (x King David) has been incredibly successful at the allowance level, finishing in the top three 11 of 15 lifetime starts.  He just placed 4th in his first stakes race.  Her 3yo colt, Coup d’Etat, is retained by us with only two lifetime starts.  We have also kept her 2yo colt and yearling filly.  Unfortunately, her weanling filly was stillborn, but our vet says that she is perfectly healthy and should have no trouble with her next pregnancy due to this.  She is currently open for 2018, to be bred to the stallion of your choice.
Asking price: $5,000  SOLD TO THE VINEYARD

I’ve got two broodmares I want to find good homes for - both are decent producers so far and both are very cheap to help entice you to consider taking them home!

Whirl Me Away - 2005 grey broodmare, 15.0hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
This broodmare is off to a good start, with only two foal to race so far.  The first, just turned 4yo stallion, was undefeated at 3yo.  Her second foal, a now 3yo Holy Bull filly, seems to be just beginning to find her feet, with a 4th place finish this year.  However, Holy Bull’s get seem to be slow to figure it out, at least from my experience.  We sold her 2yo colt, but only because I’m not a fan of Mr. Townsend as a sire.  Watch him go on to do big things just to spite me.  ::)  For her new owner’s sake, I hope so!  We have, however, retained her yearling colt and weanling filly, because I really do think that she can create some decent runners with the right pairing.  She is currently open for 2018 to be bred to the stallion of your choice.  On the track, Whirl Me Away only ran as a 6yo (possibly past her prime, who knows), but she finished in the top three 5 of 7 starts.
Asking price: $2,000  SOLD TO EASTER VALLEY ESTATE

Kelly Green - 2006 grey broodmare, 15.0hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
I only purchased this mare, at the time, because she was in foal to my newly purchased stallion.  She safely delivered us a filly, whom we are retaining.  So far, though, all of her foals to race (3yo and up, now) are winners, with her eldest, 6yo mare Little Lime, being stakes placed.  That’s the kind of consistency in production that every breeder should appreciate.  She is currently open for 2018, to be bred to the stallion of your choice.
Asking price:$2,000  SOLD TO THE VINEYARD

I’d like to buy Whirl Me Away… expanding my broodmare herd to a grand total of 2!

As my 3, 4, and 5YO mares are all starting to run very well, I’ve gotten a bit overwhelmed when picturing my broodmare lineup in a couple years.  As a result, I’m trying to force myself to part with a few more.  I have two more for your consideration:

D’licious - 2002 black broodmare, 15.0hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!  Comes in foal, very pregnant, due on July 6th.  The sire is Dark Continent, who was an amazing turfer.  The first foal I bred from her, a 2013 daughter of High Chances, is doing really well for me.  She has earned two speed records so far, and will be aiming at stakes in the near future.  She is undefeated over hurdles.  It’s beginning to look like her 2014 colt might also appreciate a switch to hurdles.  However, I’m not aiming to produce hurdlers, so that is the only reason I am parting with her.  I was originally going to wait until after she foaled out so I could keep the foal, but I thought I would see if there was any interest first.
Asking price: $15,000 - SOLD TO EASTER VALLEY ESTATE

Catch A Glimpse - 2004 chestnut broodmare, 14.3hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
This is another broodmare who is off to a good start.  However, I purchased her only for the foal she is carrying, so she will not be available until AFTER her foal is born, and I will be keeping the foal.  This should make her available around mid-June.  She has two winners from three foals to start.  The third hasn’t won, but with only four lifetime starts, has been on the board 3 times.  She is going for a very fair price, and is a pretty safe bet to add to your brood band.
NO LONGER FOR SALE - RETAINED BY IVY CREEK

Congrats on D’lightful’s first stakes win!  I picked her to win in my handicapping, even though I thought she might be an underdog because she had no stakes experience, and I actually correctly picked the trifecta for that race.  So, I’m thinking I’ll put the $1000 handicapping earnings toward the price of D’licious and snatch her up before anyone else does! :0)

Sounds like a good plan! I’m glad you had faith in her…and that you profited from it! my only request is that you don’t tell me if she drops a filly - our crop is severely lacking, and that would just be my luck. Ha. Good luck with her!

Deal

I have several more I want to add to this list.  Again, they’re good ponies, so please consider taking one (or several!) home:

First off, CATCH A GLIMPSE is still available once she foals out (mid-June), but you can call dibs on her now.  I bet you won’t find a broodmare with that kind of record for that kind of price elsewhere!

My future broodmares (aka 4/5/6yo race mares) are forcing me to be even more selective with my broods.  Most of the girls I’m going to add today have already been bred, and come in foal for 2018.  Some of them are only being offered because I own so many of their offspring.

Meadowlight - 2004 dark bay broodmare, 17.2hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
She’s a GIGANTIC girl, so she’ll definitely add some height to your babies.  Her first two foals are winners, which is a good start.  I own her 2yo colt, but you know how 2yos can be.  ::)  He’s unplaced, but has already earned a speed factor of 160 in one of his two starts.  She comes IFT Witness for 2018, due July 1.
Asking price: $5,000

Danzatore - 2002 bay broodmare, 17.0hh
SIRE: Danzig {G} (Northern Dancer {B} x created)
DAM: Last Challenge {B} (created)
Unraced mare.  Tall, and you can’t beat her sire.  From 9 foals to race, she has produced 2 stakes placed geldings and 5 winners.  The other two were very, very lightly raced.  I own two of her daughters, so I’m letting her go.  IFT Blue Smoke for 2018.
Asking price: $6,000 - SOLD TO TRIPLE M RACING

Alyglamour - 2011 light bay broodmare, 15.1hh
SIRE: Alydar {S} (created)
DAM: The Cover Girl {B} (created)
Multi-winner on the track, OTB more than 50% of the time.  She is 1/2 to SW Ch. Undercover Girl and SW Ch. Cover Story, and by Alydar, who has done well as a sire.  She had her first foal last year on lease.  She’s a sentimental favorite as I purchased her as a weanling.  IFT Highland Burning for 2018.
Asking price: $5,000 - SOLD TO TRIPLE M RACING

Bravodora - 2008 brown broodmare, 16.0hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
Stakes winner (Gr.3) over hurdles.  Holds 3 speed records (10f, 11f, 11f) over hurdles.  I’m not aiming to produce hurdlers, and I suspect that is what she will do best at.  I retain her first 3 foals, so we will find out soon enough.  IFT Worth The Wait for 2018, due March 4.
NO LONGER FOR SALE - RETAINED BY IVY CREEK

I’m Feelin’ Lucky - 2010 light chestnut broodmare, 16.2hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
Multi-winner.  Lightly raced, and took an entire year off before I purchased her.  She still managed to win at 6yo, and her lifetime non-stakes record is 50% win/place.  She is in foal to Witness, due January 10th, 2018.
Asking price: $5,000

Queen of Humor - 2008 blood bay broodmare, 16.2hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
Multi-winner.  Holds 3 speed records: 5f turf, 14f turf, and 16f dirt.  I own her first four foals, three of which are fillies, so I’m going to let her find a new home.  Comes IFT Sea The Stars, due April 3rd, 2018.  I’m only asking for Sea The Stars stud fee, and the mare is free.  Otherwise, I will gladly keep her 'til she foals out next spring.
NO LONGER FOR SALE - RETAINED BY IVY CREEK

The Cover Girl - 1997 light bay broodmare, 15.3hh
SIRE: created
DAM: created
She has produced 2 stakes winning champions and 7 winners.  She is a good, solid producer.  I am parting with her because I own so many of her offspring so far.  I’m keeping her price low, in the event of her retiring anytime soon (God forbid).  She comes IFT Demand the Best for 2018, so I am only asking his stud fee back.
Asking price: $6,000

My starter mare was out of danzatore and I own 2 more of her daughters they are great producers!

I’m really a bit shocked that there isn’t more interest in these ladies, but it is a bit late into the foaling season.  However, they are all being sold IN FOAL already, and some have earlier due dates than others.

I amended all of their pages’ (except Meadowlight, as we are still waiting for her to foal out) to be officially listed for sale, so you can just click & buy.

Also, I have decided to keep Catch A Glimpse due to her rise to silver-ranking.

I have no problems keeping some or all of the others if no one wants them (and their unborn foals) for these prices.

Blink Back Tears - 2016 black filly, 14.2hh
SIRE: NCh. Void {B} (Planet Hollywood {S} x Patriot Games {P})
DAM: Running Blind {B} (Unbridled {B} x Blind Justice {S})
Yearling filly.  1/2 to Blind Chant (2011 multi-winner, 2 speed records), Desert Winter (2012 winner), Ch. Blind Alley (2013 multi-winner).  She might end up liking hurdles, though she has relatives who do well on the flat.
Asking price: $1,000 - SOLD TO HIDDEN OAK FARM

Comedy Queen - 2014 dark bay filly, 16.1hh
SIRE: FFCh. High Chances {G} (GCh. Highland Laird {S} x Second Chance {P})
DAM: Queen of Humor {B} (created)
3YO filly by gold-rated High Chances.  Winner.  She would do well in a home where she’ll get more attention.  She’s only had two starts this year, but finished 2nd and 3rd.  Judging by her dam, her best year is likely still to come - mom did best at 4YO.  She is the first foal from her dam.
Asking price: $20,000  SOLD TO EASTER VALLEY ESTATE

Coup d’Etat - 2014 black colt, 15.0hh
SIRE: ICh. Ring of Fire {S} (Cross Roads {S} x Playing With Fire {P})
DAM: Je Suis Prest {B} (created)
3YO multi-winner.  I don’t think this colt is a superstar, but he brings home paychecks on a regular basis.  He ought to continue to do so for you.  Maybe he’s got more to give if you’re able to give him the right attention.
Asking price: $10,000  SOLD TO RENEGADE RACING AND BREEDING

D’angelo - 2014 black colt, 15.3hh
SIRE: WCh. Strider {G} (Highland Rogue {P} x Seeing Starz {P})
DAM: D’licious {S} (created)
3YO winner.  I can’t get this guy to be consistent.  You can try your luck, and if it doesn’t pan out, there’s a good chance that he’ll prefer hurdles like his 1/2 sister, G3 stakes winner, D’lightful.
Asking price: $10,000 SOLD TO EASTER VALLEY ESTATE

Well those ponies went quickly.   Good luck to their new associations!

Most of the broodmares in-foal are still available, so don’t overlook them!

Now how about some 2YOs?

Charming Devil - 2015 dark bay colt, 17hh
SIRE: Silver Charm {B} (created)
DAM: Meadowlight {B} (created)
At a whopping 17hh, this guy should be mature or close to it.  He’s had two starts and bombed both.  Then again, that’s the nature of 2YOs.  Maybe he just needs the right combination of equipment, etc., before he’ll even try.  He’s a project, as most 2YOs.
Asking price: $5,000 SOLD TO RENEGADE RACING AND BREEDING

D’vour - 2015 black colt, 15hh
SIRE: ICh. Take Me Away {B} (Cigar {G} x Take Account {P})
DAM: D’licious {S} (created)
Green - has not begun training or racing.  He’s still a couple of inches from his minimum “expected” height, so he’s still acting a foal at the farm.  He might be perfectly ready to run, who knows.  1/2 to G3 SC stakes winner, D’lightful.
Asking price: $7,000  SOLD TO STILLWATER FARMS

Undercover Hero - 2015 bay colt, 16.3hh
SIRE: GCh. Simply Heroic {B} (Easy Goer {S} x Heroic Lass {S})
DAM: The Cover Girl {B} (created)
Another tall, seemingly mature 2YO.  He’s also had two starts, but hasn’t done much with them yet.  He did manage a 4th (= a paycheck!) in his last start.  I think he’ll find his feet soon and at least make a decent allowance pony.  He’s 3/4 to G2 SW Ch. Undercover Girl.
Asking price: $7,000  SOLD TO TOWNSEND ACRES
