We forwarded Nightfight the news of Twilight’s son being born. CDS sends you the greatest wishes for your wonderful colt. We’ll be keeping an eye on him!
Thanks! I’m glad you’re as thrilled with him as I am. These next two years are going to be longgggg…
And now, another filly to announce:
[color=red]Holy Smokes
8.1hh bay filly
Sire: Holy Bull
Dam: Rodeo Cowgirl (x Omaha (S))
After giving us colts the last two years, we’re glad that Cowgirl decided on a filly this time around. Her first foal, a homebred named Notmyfirstrodeo, will hit the tracks this summer/fall, though he’s a little immature yet. Of course, Holy Bull is a big unknown factor in how this lady will turn out, but I’m excited to see.
Mom is booked to to the newly-retired Doodles.
[color=blue]9 colts: [color=red]10 fillies : 5 to go!
(1 broodmare deceased)
Two more babies born this week, and both were bay fillies. Both names are highly tentative - not crazy about either one, but am having a hard time coming up with a better name for each. Any suggestions are welcome.
[color=red]Smart As Can Be
9.1hh bay filly
Sire: Smart Strike
Dam: Danzatore (B) (x Danzig (S))
From her sire’s first crop, it will be interesting to see what happens. As for mom, all her foals are winners except those who haven’t run much (4 or less times). Her 2YO gelding is consigned to the upcoming auction, so I’m hoping he gets a consistant race home whereever he ends up so we can see what he’s capable of.
Mom has been bred to Octagonal for another mystery baby.
[color=red]Worth A Treasure
9.2hh bay filly
Sire: GCh. Worth My While (G)
Dam: Highland Treasure (x GCh. Highland Laird (S))
This overdue maiden mare had me holding my breath! So I was really glad to see a healthy baby girl this morning. I’m hoping for a little of the Worth/Rogue starpower to have trickled down through her pedigree. Her sire has proven his potency, and mom was a multi-winner, despite a lack of consistancy. Only time will tell how well she’ll be able to run.
Meanwhile, mom is off to see another Worth son, Foolhardy.
[color=blue]9 colts: [color=red]12 fillies : 3 to go!
(1 broodmare deceased)
…and the fillies officially have it this year. We’re only expecting two more babies after this gal, so we’re almost at the end of the season!
[color=red]Catalan Bay
9.2hh blue roan filly
Sire: Rock of Gibraltar
Dam: Wag The Dog (x created)
This is the second foal, and second blue roan filly from mom. Wag The Dog was a multi-winner, who never got a chance to run until her 4YO year, and never tried hurdles. Obviously, dad is yet unproven, so this filly is quite a mystery. Can’t wait to see what becomes of her! She is named after one of the layers of rock in the Rock of Gibraltar.
Mom has a booking to High Chances next.
[color=blue]9 colts: [color=red]13 fillies : 2 to go!
(1 broodmare deceased)
Got back from vacation to find another pretty little filly had arrived! Now there’s only one more baby we’re waiting on…
[color=red]Alakazam
9.1hh grey filly
Sire: ICh. Highland Magic (S)
Dam: Alwuhush (B) (x Alydar (S))
After delivering us a colt last year, we’re glad that Alwuhush decided to present us with a filly this time around, since she’s getting up there in age. Previously, she stood at Windward Farms, so while she has several daughters so far, this is the first we’ve had the privilege of owning. And as for a name, we figured this one was fitting, considering mom & dad’s names.
Mom is now headed for a date to Spock.
[color=blue]9 colts: [color=red]14 fillies : 1 to go!
(1 broodmare deceased)
Love the name.
Thanks, Shanthi!
The final foal we were expecting arrived early this morning:
[color=blue]D’angelo
8.3hh black colt
Sire: WCh. Strider
Dam: D’licious (created)
This is the fourth foal from mom (we own and bred her yearling filly, D’LIGHTFUL - 2YO daughter GREEK GODDESS is unraced & owned by Triple M Racing - 3YO son HURRICANE’S GOLD is a MW for Pemberley Estates). He’s got quite the daddy to live up to, too. I’m eager to see how his older siblings turn out, as mom doesn’t have much else to recommend her (unraced & created), aside from a cute name.
Mom is headed to see the Cigar son, Take Me Away, next.
[color=blue]10 colts: [color=red]14 fillies : 0 to go!
(1 broodmare deceased)
This has been quite the successful season for us. All 24 colts and fillies arrived safe and sound, thank goodness, although we did lose our beloved broodmare, A.P. WHISKEY (x A.P. Indy).
That brings our grand total - from all 3 foal crops so far - to 45 babies born at the farm. We haven’t lost any babies yet, but we have lost a total of 2 broodmares (A.P. WHISKEY and ALWAYS A LADY). The breakdown comes to 20 colts and 25 fillies - all of which still remain at the farm at this time.
Our first crop - the 2YOs - only number two - NOTMYFIRSTRODEO (from Rodeo Cowgirl: unraced) and OH SO PROUD (from Oh So Sharp), but we have also purchased 3 others who are from mares currently in our brood band: AFTERGLOW (from CrossTheThreshold), IRISH MULDOON (from Twilight Embers: placed), and MR. EVERMORE (from Always A Lady).
We have also purchased a 3YO from one of our current broods: ALYGLAMOUR (from The Cover Girl: winner).
I’m so excited to get further into the breeding aspect, and to see how they all turn out. I don’t know how you bigger stables can ever bear to part with homebreds! I’m frightened by the day that I will have to start considering that.
