Injury History....

I was looking at my mare Strike Out’s injury history just a moment ago (I’m shipping her home to rest because she has some heat in her right hind leg) and noticed that while thankfully, she’s only had two injuries, they’ve both been in her right hind leg.  The first injury was a bowed tendon back in December and now nearly seven months later, she has heat in it.  So, what I got to thinking on was this, when a horse has an injury, such as a bowed tendon, does it make that particular leg more likely to gain another injury later on?  Or is it just coincidence that both her injuries have been to that leg?  Nothing particularly important, just something that struck my curiousity.

I know an injury can (and does, depending on what it is and how it’s treated) make a horse more fragile.  I don’t know if it’s leg-specific though.

It’s not, though it would be cool if it were.  Actually, the code might look back at old injuries and see if there’s a trend for a specific leg, but I think it really just rolls an imaginary dice for 1-4 and picks the leg that’s injured based on that.

Ohhh…ok, then.  I wasn’t sure how it worked, and really had forgotten all about her previous injury until I was looking at her history.  Thankfully, my horses so far haven’t been extremely accident prone.  knock on wood
