I suppose this is one of those "buyer-beware" types of things...

So, in September we adopted a female Jack Russell from a shelter a couple of hours away from here.  About two weeks after we got her, I noticed she had these little bumps on her belly, but assumed that for some reason, she’d laid down in an ant bed (we’ve had a dog who did that once or twice before, for some very strange reason).  Well, it’s steadily gotten worse, but I haven’t had the money to take her to the vet because work keeps cutting my hours, and Josh hasn’t had it either.  We noticed yesterday, however, that Molly had a sore on the side of her face and finally just decided she HAD to go to the vet.  So, I was going to use my money for my school tuition for next session to pay for it, but Josh said no and borrowed the money from his mother.  I hate borrowing money, but this is one of those times, I’ll do it no problem.  My sister works at the vet we take our other dog to, so I called her to see if she could get Molly in and she asked if I had the paperwork the shelter had given me showing what all they did for her.  I did, and I decided to look at it (like I should have done before we left the shelter, but I didn’t think I needed to.  Life lesson right there.)  So, I’m on the phone with her going through everything they’d had her on in the time they’d had her and noticed this little note “sarcoptic mange per Dr. Jenny”.  And I think, ok they must have treated it and this is something else.  But I can’t find on the paperwork where they treated it and my sister said if they didn’t treat it completely, it’ll just come back and it’s extremely contagious.  Why the heck did they not tell me she had had the mange?  They told me everything else they’d done for her.  Grrr…  So now, I’m getting ready to take her to the vet.  Keep your fingers crossed it’s not that.  :S

Terrible! My gosh what people will do these days.  I’m sorry to hear that.  I hope everything goes well for you and your dog.  :-\

Ok, back from the vet.  We have discovered that she has red mange, which fortunately is not contagious and completely treatable.  Thank goodness.

Poor little thing.

Yep, she’s had a rough day today.  She had to have her skin scraped in two places, then had to have a shot that apparently hurt like the dickens given the way she reacted to it, then they gave her ivermectin, which the doctor said tastes extremely bad and finally she had to get a sulfur shampoo bath.  She got a really nice treat for the whole ordeal.

Aww, poor girl. I hope she’s back to normal soon!
